Amanohashidate Sand Bar
Nice short hike on a sand bar in northern Kyoto prefecture with views out to the Sea of Japan. With free parking in the nearby charming town, it’s a relatively unknown tourist spot which is worth a stop if you’re in the area especially to break up a road trip. Ideal for stretching those legs for a 5km flat hike along the sand bar with mountain and sea views.

Amanohashidate
This might be a less popular destination
But the scenery is magnificently unbeatable
The environment is so outstanding that it's astonishing
The air quality of this island nation
Is so much better than Shanghai
After so many days of fun
Not a speck of dust in my nose
Utterly magical
The only downside is the cable car
I was looking forward to taking the single-person cable car to climb the mountain
But to my surprise, there was no seatbelt
An unbelievable design that made me hesitate
I decisively switched to the eight-seater cable car
I have the utmost respect for the bravery of the islanders
Overall
The experience was excellent
This place is worth a visit
In Amanohashidate
Every breath is a tribute to nature
Every ascent is a test of courage

Exploring the Stunning Amanohashidate - The Cable Car Experience of the Sea of Kyoto
Welcome to Amanohashidate, a tourist destination in Japan renowned for its natural scenery, known as the Sea of Kyoto! This spot, one of the three most scenic views of Japan, attracts many visitors with its magnificent views and unique geographical features. First, let me take you on the Instagram-famous cable car ride, where there's absolutely nothing under your feet—it's quite a thrill! It feels a bit like riding a ski resort's cable car.
The cable car is located in Miyazu City, Kyoto Prefecture, Japan, at Amanohashidate. To enjoy the view, you need to take this cable car up. This sandbar, stretching across the sea, looks like a massive bridge and is truly captivating! While riding the cable car, you can ascend from the ground to the top of Amanohashidate and enjoy the view!
Whether you're on a self-guided tour or with a travel group, Amanohashidate is a must-visit. Besides the cable car and the views, you can also enjoy cycling, riding a bike in the sky while taking in the beautiful scenery!

Wonderful and great view kyoto
February was grey and chilly but there were very few tourists. You can walk the 2.5 km each way and take the gondolas on both sides for spectacular views.
Went on March 2024 and the cold and clear weather was perfect for viewing very far distance.
Not many tourists and the ride up/down were easy without Q and the area was not crowded for appreciating the uniquety to fully enjoy the nature.
It would be easy to spend at least half a day here exploring. Best experienced in good weather, and even more beautiful in cherry blossom season!

You MUST VISIT Amanohashidate in Kyoto!
You may have heard of Kyoto before, but have you heard of Amanohashidate?
Just 2 hours JR ride away from Kyoto, Amanohashidate is actually ranked among Japan's three most scenic views. It is a pine covered sandbar that spans the mouth of Miyazu Bay in the scenic, coastal region of northern Kyoto Prefecture, and the Amanohashidate Sandbar (which roughly translates to "bridge in heaven") looks like a pathway between heaven and earth when viewed upside down.
The sea view is superb and it’s a very scenic and peaceful area. Most people I see there were local tourists rather than foreigners - that’s how you know this place is really an underrated gem!
I would love to visit the Dragon’s Back in Hong Kong, which is one of the most popular trails that also boasts an impressive coastal view!

Amanohashidate 2 day 1 night
Amanohashidate is a very cozy little town that you can enjoy a day chilling and relaxing. You can go up to the Amanohashidate view land for a good 1-2 hours to enjoy the view and chairlift up and down. There is also a small cable car which cost only 500 yen for two people. A nice restaurant is up there if you want to have a taste of the local authentic clam udon. Highly recommended!

Amanohashidate (天橋立)
Spectacular scenery and totally worth the day trip there. Try the chairlift instead of the monorail.
Next time, we’ll plan a night stay to enjoy the peaceful environment and onsen. There are other attractions within walking distance at the foot of the mountain. Totally no crowd….This is an underrated place to visit in Japan! It is better if you drive as the journey by train from Kyoto is 2hrs.

Mesmerising North Kyoto
Kyoto is not just about its temples and old capital charm, the nature landscape in its backyard is breathtaking. Amanohashidate is one of the must visit places, where you can catch picturesque views backed by the Sea of Japan and the 3.8km pine trees filled sandbar that resonates ‘the stairway to heaven’.
One can head up to the viewpoint by traditional monorail or chairlifts, if you are feeling a bit adventurous.

Catch up with the last bus to get to Amanohashidate. It is actually a new tram line that started in 2015. I am amazing to the tea table. The absolute chic terminal is the most amazing thing before Miyazu. I am facing the sea on the Izu Peninsula. The tram fatigue is instantly eliminated. I am a Japanese tram.
