A one-day City walk in Lancang, Yunnan
After the successful application for World Heritage of Jingmai Mountain, Lancang, a small Lahu town on the southwestern frontier, has gradually come into people's view. Although it is the second largest county in the country, the county seat is not large and can be visited in one day. Here is a one-day tour to share with everyone.
1️⃣ Earthquake Monument
On November 6, 1988, Lancang County experienced a '7.6 magnitude' earthquake. The current post-disaster reconstructed county town records the situation of emergency rescue and disaster relief, and also reminds future generations of history.
2️⃣ National Unity Progress Square
Locals call it 'Lahu Square.' The square is large, with a giant gourd standing in the center. During major festivals such as the Spring Festival and Gourd Festival, Lahu people dress up and dance with songs. On ordinary days, it is a place for residents to dance, walk their children, snack on street food, and stroll for leisure and entertainment.
3️⃣ Museum, Science and History Museum
Located right at the square, flanking the main entrance, the museum displays many gourds because the ancestors of the Lahu people came out of a gourd, so they worship gourds. There are also exhibits related to daily life.

Gourd Square
Gourd Square is located in the southern part of Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province, on the north side of the ring road. It is a comprehensive square that integrates ethnic culture display, tourism, commerce, leisure and entertainment, and is an important place for large-scale festival activities and cultural displays. Lancang is the only Lahu Autonomous County in the country, gathering one-third of the world's Lahu population and half of China's Lahu population, and it is named after the Lancang River to the east. The Lahu people regard the gourd as the incarnation of their ancestors and use the gourd as a symbol of the totem. The Lahu people believe that they came out of the gourd and pursued the spiritual pursuit of the sun and the beautiful wish of auspicious happiness. The enduring 'Lusheng Love Song' is sung from here. So here has become the hometown of gourds, as if stepping into the world of Calabash Brothers. In Lancang, gourd signs and patterns can be seen everywhere, with its unique ethnic style and culture. Mupa Mipa is a long epic creation myth sung by the Lahu 'Pokokok', mainly circulated in Lancang Lahu Autonomous County, Pu'er City, Yunnan Province. It is the most widely circulated long epic myth among the Lahu people and the most important work in Lahu folk literature. On May 20, 2006, Mupa Mipa was approved by the State Council to be included in the first batch of national intangible cultural heritage list.
