A street that transports you back in time 🏮🏞️🇨🇳#timetotravel Shantang street (山糖街) is an old street with canals in Suzhou, China. When I was in Shanghai, my friend and I took a day trip to Suzhou and she brought me to Shantang Street on a weekend. Oh myyy the street was so crowded, it was difficult to walk on the narrow streets… Therefore, we went into 江醪糟, the first dessert place we saw to escape from the crowd. I have to say the dessert is very refreshing and hydrating, it rejuvenated us for sure. We then spent our evening just walking on the streets, exploring, taking pictures and eating random street food. I definitely recommend visiting this famous old street if you are in Shanghai as it takes approx 30 minutes by train!!! For visitors without a Mainland Chinese phone number, it would be difficult to get tickets online. Therefore, I do recommend going to the train station early and getting tickets at the ticket office. Although Suzhou and Shanghai are both cities in Mainland, they do check your ID and passports so remember to bring them along with you. There are security screenings at the train station so please arrive early for your train. Also note, in Mainland they do not use physical train tickets but they put a record in your IDs, so they screen your IDs at the gate again. Shantang Street is located northwest of Suzhou Ancient City, Jiangsu Province, east to the red dust "one and second class rich and noble winds" Anmen, west to "Wuzhong first win" Huqiu, the total length of about 3,600 meters, about 7 Huali, so called "Seven Lishantang to Huqiu". During the Tang Dynasty, Baiju Yiren Suzhou's history of thorns, dredging the northwest river outside Suzhou City, excavating into the Shantang River, and the ancient street built by the river is called Shantang Street, and the streets are all ancient buildings. Most of the ancient buildings were buildings in the late Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China. They were architectural groups composed of several drops and several inches, vertically and horizontally. In 2010, Shantang Street was named "China's cultural heritage protection model unit" and was named "China's historical and cultural street". In 2015, Shantang Street was named the first batch of "China's historical and cultural neighborhoods" by the Ministry of Housing and Construction and the Bureau of Cultural Relics.
