Highlights: The Huangshi National Mining Park - Dazhi Iron Mine is located in Huangshi City's Tieshan District in Hubei Province. During the Three Kingdoms period, Sun Quan built a furnace here to refine metals in order to build weapons. In the waning years of the Qing Dynasty, Zhang Zhidong—the Governor of Huguang—set up the first large-scale, open pit iron mine in China, which later became the raw material base for the Hanyang Iron Works. Along with being the country's first national mine park, a national 4A-level scenic spot and a national industrial tourism demonstration site, this is the only iron mine to have been inspected by the great Mao Zedong.
