Still Partially Open - and Worth the Trip from Arica
OK the Sanctuario del Picaflor (from now on: Hummingbird Sanctuary) in Azapa Valley (about 20-25 minutes drive from downtown Arica) is OPEN...BUT only along the main (dirt) road. There is no admission...

We went just before lunch at the end of February. Only saw a couple of hummingbirds in nests - we were a bit out of season. No mosquitos. The place is operated by people who obviously love the animals...

A bit hard to find but once you are there, you will enjoy this peaceful setting and of course lots of hummingbirds. A small restaurant as well to. Plan in for a few quiet hours and just relax.
