Shizhai Earth Building, Jiaoling

Shizhai Tulou is located in Shizhai Village, Nanxun Town, Jiaoling County, the most idyllic ancient village with Guangdong characteristics. The ancient Hakka architecture can feel the simple folk customs and quiet environment here.

It can only be said that it is a large house with thick walls, which is not fully preserved, but it is indeed warm in winter and cool in summer. As a tourist purpose, it is not recommended at all. But the air there is fresh, and the air is really good after walking for an hour on the winding road.

Shizhai Tulou is located in Shizhai Village, Nanxun Town, Jiaoling County. There are two new and old buildings, the old ones are called "Fanglou" and the new ones are called "Shude Building". "Fanglou" was built by the village of Guo surnamed the fifth ancestor in the Ming Dynasty Jiajing years, more than 460 years ago, with a construction area of 3060 square meters. The "Shude Building" was built by the village of Guo surnamed the Tenth Ancestors in the Qing Dynasty Kangxi years, more than 340 years ago, with a construction area of 2388 square meters. The two earth buildings are 100 meters apart, south to north, and are four squares in shape. They are all three-story civil buildings of 13 meters. Shizhai earth building is made of earth, sand and ash into a wall of civil structure buildings, building materials are local materials of mountain stone, loess, fir, ash, sand, green and so on. The thickness of the load-bearing wall of the earth building is one meter, the frame of the teak is seven meters long, and the tiles are one foot wide. The overall layout is unique, the shape is unique, and the structure is strong. It has been more than three or four hundred years. Today, the Shizhai earth building is a valet house with typical local characteristics. It fully shows the style and hard pioneering spirit of Hakka family gathering, and has important reference value and research value in the history of civil architecture.
