Putian Meifeng Temple

The predecessor of Meifeng Temple was originally a Guanyin Pavilion. In the eighth year of Song Yuanfeng (1085), the mother of the local celebrity Li Fu, Huang's family, built more than 100 acres of land and expanded the pavilion into a temple. In the seventh year of Shaoxing (1137), it was named "Repaying Enlightenment Temple". In the Yuan Dynasty, an official lecturer was set up in the temple. In the 41st year of Jiajing in Ming Dynasty (1562), Japanese pirates committed crimes and the temple was burned down. It was rebuilt during the Ming Wanli period. In the Qing Dynasty, more than a dozen large and small palaces were built, which rose from the mountains and were scattered. On both sides of the mountain gate, there are four-cornered, three-story bells and drum towers. On the third floor of the bell tower, there is a bronze bell cast by Cai Tong, a famous Song Dynasty craftsman. In the thirteenth year of Guangxu in the Qing Dynasty (1887), the Chu army stationed in the temple caught fire and melted down. Later, it was recast in imitation of the Song bell, weighing about 1,500 kilograms, with more than 500 characters of scriptures and mantras. The body of the bell is simple and elegant, and the pronunciation is particularly loud. Whenever the morning light fades, the bell sounds melodious and melodious, and is known as the "Morning Bell of Mei Temple". In recent years, with the enthusiastic sponsorship of overseas Chinese, large-scale renovations and expansions have been carried out. A new Guanyin Pavilion was built on the top of the mountain, with a height of tens of meters, which is a relatively tall building in the urban area. From the top of the pavilion, you can have a panoramic view of the city's far and near scenery. Various plum blossoms are still planted all over the mountains, and the fragrant snow sea is a unique landscape of the urban area.
