If I had to pick the best region for self-driving, Ireland would definitely be on my list 🇮🇪 Every single view here, if placed in another country, would be worth a special trip just to see. I’ve always preferred places that are more natural and not overly polished. Irish cities are very modern, but less than an hour outside the urban areas, the wind blowing over the grasslands and coast makes you feel like the world has returned to its most primitive state. That summer, we drove around the island, and the whole island was covered in hydrangeas. 🐧 On the Saltee Islands south of Wexford, I saw thousands of puffins for the first time. They wobbled as they stood on the cliff edges, absolutely adorable. This is also one of the most stunning seabird habitats I’ve seen in Europe. 🌿 Continuing west, we arrived at the Ring of Kerry. It’s all pastures, stone walls, and the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes after driving for half an hour, you realize you haven’t visited any attractions, just kept stopping by the roadside. 🏡 Passing through Adare, it felt like stepping into a fairy tale book. Thatched cottages, flowers, and quiet little streets, time seemed to slow down. 🌊 If Kerry represents Ireland, then the Dingle Peninsula is the most romantic side of Ireland. The Atlantic wind constantly blows toward the coast, and the road winds through the hills, never getting boring no matter how many times you drive it. 🍺 Arriving in Doolin at dusk, there aren’t many attractions here, but it’s one of the most important hubs for traditional Irish music. Watch the sea during the day, then dive into a pub at night for a live performance— this is the right way to experience Ireland. 🏔️ The next day, we came to the Cliffs of Moher. The 214-meter-high cliffs drop straight into the Atlantic. The wind is strong, and the world suddenly feels vast. 🏰 My favorite castle, actually, is Classiebawn Castle near Sligo. Behind it is Benbulben Mountain, in front is the sea. Standing there all alone, it has a kind of isolated beauty. 🌊 Continuing north, we reached Downpatrick Head. Compared to the Cliffs of Moher, there are far fewer tourists here. But when the Dun Briste sea stack appears before your eyes, it’s both magical and breathtaking. 🌳 After entering Northern Ireland, we first visited the Dark Hedges from Game of Thrones. The shadows of the trees intertwine, like a scene from a movie. Finally, we arrived at the Giant's Causeway. Tens of thousands of hexagonal basalt columns stretch into the sea, and even after seeing countless photos, standing here in person still amazes with its beauty.

#travelsafetytips Hold Onto Your Hat—and Your Balance The Cliffs of Moher are breathtaking—rising 214 meters above the Atlantic, with waves crashing far below. But the wind up there? It doesn’t mess around. On my visit, a sudden gust nearly knocked me sideways as I approached Hags Head. That’s when I understood why local advice warns against standing too close to the edge when it’s blowing hard. There are no guardrails along large stretches of the cliff path, and the ground near the rim can be uneven or crumbly. In high winds, the gusts are strong enough to knock you off balance—or send loose objects flying. I stayed well back from the edge, kept my phone in my pocket, and avoided using a selfie stick in the wind. The cliff walk from Doolin to Hags Head is one of the best ways to experience the area. I wore a windproof jacket, sturdy shoes, and kept both hands free when needed. Even on calm days, weather changes fast, so I checked the forecast before setting out. I based myself in Doolin and walked part of the trail, then returned via local transport. The cliffs are majestic—but they don’t forgive a moment of distraction. Stay low, stay back, and let the wind remind you who’s in charge.

#travelsafetytips The Cliffs of Moher can be enjoyed from the viewing platforms near the Visitor Centre or along the approximately 13 km coastal walk between Hags Head in the south and Doolin in the north. After reading several travel blogs, we decided to start from Hags Head and walk towards the Visitor Centre. The trail offers breathtaking views of towering cliffs and the Atlantic Ocean. However, the terrain can be uneven and muddy, and much of the route is exposed to the elements, with limited fencing along sections of the cliff edge. As we walked, the weather deteriorated and the wind grew increasingly fierce. My son and I were literally pushed around by the gusts. A few times, we had to squat down and hold each other to steady ourselves, genuinely worried that the wind might knock us off balance. We moved away from the cliff edge whenever possible, but the experience was frightening enough to remind us how quickly conditions can become dangerous. We were relieved when the Visitor Centre finally came into view. Just then, the wind blew my beanie off my head! 😂😅 We chased it as it kept flying away, until a kind visitor walking in the opposite direction joined the chase. It was like watching a goalkeeper trying to save a football! It became a funny moment that we still laugh about today. We ended our walk at the Visitor Centre when the rain started. Looking back, the experience taught us an important lesson: never underestimate the weather, especially along exposed cliff edges. Route details: The full coastal walk connects Hags Head and Doolin, but you can also visit the Visitor Centre separately to enjoy the views from its viewing platforms. These are different experiences, so plan according to your time, fitness and weather conditions. Safety tips: Check the latest weather forecast and trail access information before setting out. Wear suitable footwear, keep well away from cliff edges, and turn back if conditions deteriorate. If strong winds affect your balance, do not continue along the exposed trail. Take extra care when travelling with young children. The Cliffs of Moher are undoubtedly spectacular, but the best experience is one enjoyed safely. Always check the latest trail conditions before your visit and remember that it is perfectly fine to change your plans when the weather turns against you.

When planning a trip to Ireland, the most important step is to establish your route framework. Most of Ireland's highlights are concentrated along the Wild Atlantic Way on the west coast. A classic "Dublin in/out, counter-clockwise tour of the southwest and west" route allows you to experience both the city's pulse and natural wonders within a limited timeframe. 🗺️ Core Itinerary Framework: 7–10 Day Classic Loop This is a tried-and-true route with a moderate pace, perfect for first-time visitors. · Day 1–2: Dublin: Spend two days soaking up the old city's artistic vibe. Must-sees include the Book of Kells and the Long Room at Trinity College (reminiscent of Harry Potter), and a visit to the top floor of the Guinness Storehouse for a pint of stout with a panoramic view of the city. In the evening, head to the Temple Bar area for live folk music, or take the DART train to Howth to enjoy fresh oysters and walk the cliff path. · Day 3: Wicklow Mountains → Galway: Head south into the "Garden of Ireland," the Wicklow Mountains. Hike between the glacial lakes and 6th-century monastery ruins of Glendalough, also a filming location for "Braveheart." Arrive in the artistic town of Galway in the evening and stroll through the colorful Latin Quarter. · Day 4: Cliffs of Moher: The highlight of the trip. The Cliffs of Moher are the highest sea cliffs in Europe, and the lighting at sunset is particularly stunning. We recommend staying in the nearby town of Doolin to experience the local rural charm. · Day 5–6: Dingle Peninsula and Ring of Kerry: This is the essence of Irish scenery. The Dingle Peninsula is known as one of Europe's most beautiful hidden gems, with uncrowded coastal roads and stunning views. The Ring of Kerry is a 179 km scenic loop that passes through Moll's Gap and the colorful village of Sneem. Note: Do not try to visit both Dingle and the Ring of Kerry in a single day; both are worth exploring at a leisurely pace. · Day 7: Return to Dublin: Drive back to Dublin on your final day. On the way, you can stop by Kilkenny Castle or the Rock of Cashel. Return your rental car and depart in the evening. How to adjust your trip duration? · Only 4–5 days: Skip the full loop and focus on Dublin + Galway/Cliffs of Moher. Use trains (Dublin to Galway takes about 2.5 hours) and local day tours for a relaxed, stress-free experience. · Have 10 days: You can build on the 7-day itinerary by adding Belfast/Giant's Causeway (Northern Ireland; be sure to check cross-border rental car insurance), or stay an extra night in Connemara or the Aran Islands for a more leisurely pace. 🚗 Transportation: Self-drive or public transport? This is the most critical decision when planning your Ireland itinerary. If you are obsessed with the wild coastline, self-driving is the best choice. The highlights of the west coast (the deserted beaches of Dingle, the wilderness of Connemara) are largely outside the public transport network. Self-driving offers unparalleled freedom, allowing you to stop and take photos whenever you like. However, please note: Irish roads are narrow. We strongly recommend renting an automatic vehicle (they are limited and more expensive) and purchasing full insurance. Also, drivers must not consume any alcohol. If you prefer to avoid the stress of driving, relying on trains and day tours is completely feasible. Irish Rail connects major cities like Dublin, Galway, and Killarney, offering a comfortable and scenic travel experience. For scattered attractions like the Cliffs of Moher and the Ring of Kerry, joining a local tour from Galway or Killarney is the most hassle-free option. A popular compromise is to rely on public transport within Dublin and rent a car only when traveling to the west. 💰 Budget Reference (excluding international airfare, estimated per person per day) · Backpacker/Economy: Approx. €70–€95 (hostel beds, cooking your own meals from supermarkets, mainly relying on walking and public transport). · Mid-range/Comfort: Approx. €130–€200 (3-star hotels/B&Bs, dining at restaurants, car rental or tours). Total weekly cost is approx. €900–€1,300. · Key reminder: Be sure to book accommodation in advance, especially for popular B&Bs in Dingle and Doolin, which can sell out months ahead during peak season (July–August). 🏡 Where to stay? Remember these "golden bases" · Dublin: Stay on the south side of the River Liffey (even-numbered districts) for better safety and proximity to major attractions. · Cliffs of Moher: Doolin is the best base for visiting the cliffs and the Burren region. · Kerry/Dingle: Killarney or Dingle town; the former offers comprehensive amenities, while the latter is full of local charm. · Galway: The city itself is an ideal hub for exploring Connemara and offers a vibrant nightlife. ☘️ When to go? And some practical tips · Best time: May–June or September. The weather is mild, there are fewer tourists than in the peak season of July–August, and the days are still long. Spring and early autumn are considered the best travel windows. · Weather and clothing: Irish weather can experience "four seasons in one day." A waterproof jacket and layered clothing are essential, and you should always carry rain gear. · Power: Ireland uses British-style three-pin sockets (Type G) with 230V voltage. You will need to bring your own adapter. · Network: EU roaming usually covers Ireland. If you need a local SIM card, Three or Vodafone offer tourist packages, and eSIMs are also very convenient. The charm of Ireland lies in the fact that it doesn't rush you to see everything. Instead of rushing to check off sights, take some time to sit in a local pub, listen to live music, or wait for the light to break over the cliffs after a rain shower—that is often the most unforgettable part of the trip. If you can tell me your approximate travel duration, budget, and travel season, I can help you further refine this itinerary.

_TI***bnThe Burren National Park in County Clare is the most famous historical and archaeological site in Ireland. It is a famous karst landform. In the barren wilderness, there are stone buildings that were built at an unknown time. These are the remains of the earliest people in Ireland. In fact, the scenery here is also very beautiful, with flowing rivers and towering mountains, exuding primitive beauty everywhere.
