A shrine has been called "Namba Shimomiya" since ancient times and was the god of birth in the Nanba area. It was known to the public as an old shrine that enshrined Gion Gyu no Tenno from the time of Emperor Gosanjo's Enkyu (1069 to 1073). Originally, it was a mixture of Shinto and Buddhism, but after the Meiji Restoration, the temple was abolished due to the separation of Shinto and Buddhism, and it became a gosha shrine in 1872. The current main hall was completed in May 1974. It is said that the Tsusuraki Shinto ritual held on the third Sunday of January every year was based on the historical fact that the enshrined deity of, Susano no Omi no Mikoto, extered the Yamata noorochi, and removed the hardships of the people. Recently got famous on the grams, so we visited during our trip to Osaka. Multiple group of tourists were there even at 8am. But everyone is so nice to be lining up for the best picture spot. Location of shrine is near to Osaka-Namba Station, just a couple minutes of walking distance from it. The shrine is surrounded by tall residential buildings, don't panick thinking it is weird (because we did). #japantrip This temple is located strategically in the middle of residential area, giving the surrounding residence a peace of mind that the temple is there to protect them. We arrived at this temple around mid noon time but weather was not pleasant, but we quickly snap a couple nice photos before the rain comes. Also noticed that people starting walking in after we arrived, everyone was rushing to take photo and luckily every corner allow us to take beautiful photos! Psst! The entrance is free!
