Photos of Thun Castle

Thun Castle is located on the banks of the Aare River in the northwest corner of Lake Thun. It was built by the Duke of Challingen at the end of the 12th century as a pure office castle. In the 15th century, the Bernese extended this striking building with a spectacular roof. Today the five-story castle has become a history museum that showcases the highlights of the local history, with relics from prehistoric times to the 19th century, weapons, household objects and toys, Thun-made ceramics, and more. There are also frequent temporary exhibitions on cultural, historical and social affairs.
