I went and I still every Friday go to the Al Balad it's real name is Wasat Al Balad
Our first day. I wandered around downtown with my friends. It was a great way to capture the city feel. Lots of side lanes with traditional tourist trash, general clothes and underwear. Fruit and vegetable markets are definitely the best for me. I love cooking and food overall and the alleys are stacked with high fresh fruit and dried fruits, herbs, and vegetables are a big highlight.
