Unique Experience, Worth Exploring for So Many Reasons!

I took a Battle Site tour of Okinawa and the first stop was to Maeda Highlands to see Hacksaw Ridge. Obviously the movie made this popular and I've seen the movie so I was very interested in seeing th...

    Maeda Highlands

この場所は映画「ハクソーリッジ」の舞台で浦添の町が一望できます。映画のように海岸からすぐの場所ではありません。今では地元の人のウォーキングスポットで沖縄の激戦を感じることはありません。 Hacksaw Ridge is the stage of a movie directed by Mel Gibson, based on a true story of Desmond Doss who se...

    A piece of history preserved

I loved this area. It was hard to get to but so worth the trip. I met Desmond Doss (the Medic who saved many, many soldiers on the Battle of Okinawa) so visiting this place was personal for me. I was ...

the high place in the ruins of urazoe castle is the maeda highland and the hakuso ridge.

    Original Text

The Japanese name "Maeda Highlands" was called "Hakuso Ridge" by the US military at the time of the Pacific War, and it seems that it was an important place for both the Japanese and the US military. It seems to refer to the high place area in the ruins of Urasoe Castle, and an explanation board was also built. This is the highest place in the castle ruins, so I could see the cityscape in the distance. So it was a militaryly important place.

The place where the fierce battle of Okinawa was fought

    Original Text

There is a village called Maeda in the hill near the ruins of Urasoe Castle, and it is said that it was named "Maeda Base" during the Pacific War. There are many cliffs in the southern part of the main island of Okinawa facing the sea, and it is possible to land from the sea in this area, and it seems that a fierce battle was fought with this Maeda base after the US military landed. The U. S. Army called Maeda Highlands Haxorridge. Seen from this place, houses are lined up below and you can see the coastline beyond that.
