They are 4 star but had no air con, no tooth brushes and toilet floor needed a real clean with bleach not just casual mopping. Also kettle in room had scale but they were lenient about check out as we were half hour late past check out to leave and they did provide a fan per room so was still okay at the end and for the price was a nice setting

The Hotel was ideally located to Rail Station, Shops & places of interest. Room was clean and well equipped. Breakfast was brilliant. Plenty of choice and freshly cooked. Hotel had Gym facilities, although I did not use them they were there. And most important it had Car Parking which is quite rare. Would certainly stay there again and recommend to others.

We have stayed here several times and fed back to managers about the poor state of the tables & chairs in the breakfast area. Although my feedback (with photos) was not acknowledged, on our last visit just before xmas, we noticed the badly stained and chipped tables had been replaced or refurbished, and the badly stained and dirty seating had been cleaned and/or replaced, so that it now feels comfortable to sit on them. So I'm pleased my feedback may have contributed to these much needed changes. However the window frames in our room were in a terrible state, covered in black mould and in desperate need of repair or replacement. Not a healthy presence to have anywhere. So hopefully this review will be seen by the right person/people and acted upon.

Family room was massive and big single bed for the little guests, king size bed was huge.  Staff were very welcoming and helpful.  Breakfast was very varied and well stocked.  Dinner menu a little limited and very expensive. We took it upon ourselves to walk to the local pub 8 mins away on our second night and had a much nicer and cheaper meal. Pool is a safe 1.3 metres throughout and kids have times when they are able to attend. Also a lovely warm temperature, would be good for very small children/babies. Hotel just showing signs of being a little tired. Leather seat covers flaking off in dining room, carpets frayed and dirty in places, corners of rooms and shower screen were dirty.

The bed was terrible had a terrible night the mattress was so worn out it completely squashed together as I sat on the bed. When I reported it to reception the lady informed me that they were being replaced but for us not soon enough! Sadley as everything else was ok

Lovely Hotel, definitely stay again but not in the room given to me , I had emailed and called in advance for a lower floor as I have 2 miniature dachshunds, I was very surprised to be at the very top of 6 flights of stairs no lift ! Court yard room next time .

A beautiful location with stunning views. The hotel interior was a perfect mix of traditional and contemporary. Our room was right at the top of the building and, although very small, it was well designed and very clean. The service was excellent and the staff couldn't do enough to help you. We had dinner in the bar, which was tasty and arrived quickly and hot! All in all, The Cottage in the Woods is a perfect place for a quiet break with a little luxury. We will definitely be returning.

An excellent city centre venue that was a former coaching inn with a spooky history! Thankfully the present owners Greene King have kept its rustic aesthetic behind the scenes going up to the rooms. Room was more than adequate for the 2 days we stayed, perhaps the first time have seen a hotel tv capable of receiving a signal! The dark furniture was really pleasant. All the colleagues proved conversational and friendly.

The Angel is great for an overnight stay. All staff welcoming, friendly and efficient. Atmosphere relaxing, stepping off the high street into an oasis of calm! Excellent position opposite Broad Street and Number 8 venue, once we arrived and parked in the hotel’s free car park we didn’t have to drive again until we left. Local produce from their own farm made for a delicious meal. Would love to re-visit in the future.

This hotel and the staff were amazing We had booked an evening meal in advance - the food & the service were 5* Breakfast the following morning was equally as gd. We enjoyed a really gd sleep. It was a very warm evening - the hotel had provided a fan which meant our sleep was nit disturbed. Would definitely recommend and return when in the area
