Absolutely stunning! The hotel itself is a resort. It's beautiful, clean, and the service is excellent. We rented bicycles at the hotel and cycled to Old Karuizawa, the wealthy villa district, and a park with a pond (I can't recall the name). After that, we hit up the outlet mall, which is super close by. So many brands and great deals – it was a shopping paradise! They even have my favorite coffee shop and a sashimi spot there. We had such a blast, I definitely want to go back in the autumn.
The best thing about this hotel is its incredibly convenient location. You can see the JR entrance right from your room, which is perfect for those catching early morning day trips (many tour groups meet right by the JR ticket gates). Plus, when you return in the evening, you're right by all the restaurants at the JR station.
The room itself is quite small, but the breakfast spread is excellent.
This is the best choice if the kids want to ski and the adults want a place to wander around! We can relax in the hot springs, stroll around the outlets, and the kids can ski to their hearts' content. We can also drive to the Karuizawa shopping street for a leisurely walk. It's an effortless trip, perfect!
Very decent hotel with good services from the hotel staff. Come with onsen & spa facilities as well as large size rooms and bathrooms. Less than 10 minutes car ride from the Karuizawa station, ski centre and the Prince Shopping Plaza. Hotel also provides free shuttle bus services through and forth to the Karuizawa station which conveniently accessible to the ski centre (free shuttle bus services outside the South exit of the Karuizawa station) and the Prince Shopping Plaza (stone throw from Karuizawa station).
Title: Excellent Food and Snow Views, but Disappointing Management and Transport
Rating: ⭐⭐ / 5
My stay at this hotel near the ski resort was a mixed bag. While I was satisfied with the natural environment and dining, there's significant room for improvement in service management and transportation.
🟢 Pros
• Environment & Facilities: The hotel boasts an excellent location near the ski resort, perfect for ski enthusiasts. I especially recommend the outdoor hot springs, where you can soak while enjoying magnificent snow-capped mountain views. The basic facilities in the bathhouse were also quite complete.
• High-Quality Meals: This was the biggest surprise of the trip. Both breakfast and dinner featured excellent ingredients and cooking techniques; the food was truly satisfying.
🔴 Cons
• Room & Local Amenities: The room space was noticeably small, and the in-room amenities felt somewhat lacking, making for a cramped stay. Furthermore, the hotel's remote location meant there were no convenience stores nearby. I'd advise buying essentials before checking in.
• Chaotic Service Management (Major Pain Point): The staff's professional training is severely lacking. My booking package clearly included breakfast and dinner, yet restaurant staff repeatedly asked me to pay for dinner. Even after clarifying and receiving confirmation on the first day, the issue resurfaced on the second day when I was again asked for payment. I eventually had to go to the front desk myself to verify, only to find that there was no record or follow-up on yesterday's problem. This chaotic management was exhausting and significantly detracted from my stay.
• Inadequate Shuttle Service: The hotel's shuttle service completely failed to meet traveler needs. After checking out, we discovered the shuttle wouldn't be available until 2 PM, which is an extremely unreasonable schedule. We were ultimately forced to pay for a taxi to leave, incurring unnecessary expenses.
Summary
If you're coming for skiing and good food, this place might be acceptable. However, if you value service quality, management efficiency, and transportation convenience, this hotel might leave you disappointed. I hope the management can enhance staff training and optimize shuttle schedules; otherwise, it struggles to match its environmental advantages.
The firefly at night was very good. I think I didn't see it like that when I went by myself, and I don't know the way well, and I think it was dangerous. It was kinder to guide you, and I was very happy to answer various questions. (I participated alone) I well understand that Tatsuno Cho is putting emphasis on fireflies by raising towns. I think it is thankful that you will protect valuable resources from now on.
I think the dishes are standard, but the price was not so high and the room was beautiful. The quality of the hot spring was very good. The view is the best.
It was one of the good memories of my trip that I sent to ina Shinmachi, an unmanned station. I thought that check-out was 10 o'clock earlier than 1 hour, and I wanted it to be at least 11 o'clock to slow down.
This is my second time staying here, and I'm still very satisfied! The shuttle and ski equipment services were especially good. The shuttle bus was quite convenient. Everything was great overall. The only minor issue was that housekeeping forgot to leave bath towels that day. Breakfast was, as always, consistent with not much variety in the dishes.
The best part about this hotel was definitely the breakfast – they had everything from Japanese to Western options. I especially loved the soba noodles and the fried eggs. The coffee was good too, and they offered various egg rolls. The room itself was quite spacious; we had no trouble fitting our two large suitcases. However, the bathroom was a bit small, feeling somewhat disproportionate to the rest of the room. The other hotel facilities were pretty basic; there wasn't much to attract us beyond just needing a place to sleep for the night. Because of this, paying over 3100+ per night (including breakfast) felt a bit expensive.
There is a shuttle service. I really like the hot springs here. You can soak in the hot springs while enjoying the beautiful scenery. There is also a shuttle bus to the ski resort. The only downside is that there are almost no restaurants and convenience stores around. But there is a microwave.
This was my first time staying at the Karuizawa Marriott Hotel. The public onsen has both indoor and outdoor baths, and while the facilities were clean, the area was a bit small. The room itself was very spacious, clean, and the environment was quiet. The hotel breakfast offered a wide variety of choices. Highly recommended!
