Having stayed in numerous hotels, the ANA InterContinental Beppu definitely ranks in my top three.
First, let's talk about transportation:
Beppu Station is quite small. Remember to exit from the West Exit (this was told to us by the hotel shuttle driver; apparently, many international guests wait for a long time at the East Exit only to find out it's the West Exit). The hotel is about a twenty-minute drive away.
Next, the service:
What was really surprising is that more than half of the hotel staff are non-Japanese. Every single foreign staff member spoke excellent Japanese, with perfect mastery of honorifics.
Finally, the room facilities:
The onsen (hot spring bath) is small but beautiful. The infinity pool isn't very deep, making it suitable for children. It was still a bit chilly in March, but luckily, there's a warm pool nearby where you can soak for a while.
The restaurant offers great value for money. Children aged 6-12 get half price, which is around 2,700 yen. In the evening, there's an all-you-can-drink option for adults at 5,000 yen, including sparkling wine, house wine, shochu, and beer.

GGuest UserAn excellent experience! The beautiful environment offers stunning sunset and stargazing views, making it perfect for large families. Although it's a bit far out, the resort facilities provide everything you need, and there's enough to do on-site to keep you occupied all day. The included breakfast and dinner were plentiful, and the location is conveniently close to Kyushu Zoo and Yufuin, so you can easily add them to your itinerary.

CCindyI was a bit nervous after booking this hotel, but it turned out to be an excellent choice!
The hotel is a traditional Japanese courtyard building with six rooms. It's about a 15-minute taxi ride from Beppu JR station. From the moment we entered the courtyard, we received a very warm welcome. Since we booked a room on the second floor, the staff kindly carried all our luggage to our room during check-in.
You absolutely must try the dinner and breakfast included in the stay – it's incredibly good value for money! The food for both dinner and breakfast was absolutely delicious! Dinner was especially generous; we couldn't even finish it all. Plus, the wagyu beef served at dinner came with a special certificate, which was a fun touch 🤔
We arrived at the hotel at 3 PM and went straight to the hot springs after checking in. There are three private onsen: two outdoor and one indoor. I personally preferred the two outdoor ones; their design and layout are pretty similar, so either one is a great choice. You can also adjust the water temperature yourself, allowing you to soak for longer. Female guests can choose their favorite yukata at the front desk; the patterns are all beautiful and perfect for photos.
The hotel's service was the best I experienced on this entire trip. The staff member who served us dinner and prepared our futons in the evening had a hearing impairment, yet they provided the most satisfying service my family and I received on this trip. Knowing I had to catch a train the next day, they proactively informed me that taxis in Beppu were currently in high demand and helped me pre-book one.
I highly recommend this place for its private onsen, delicious food, and excellent service.

CCHU TONG SENGThe hotel has a great location, right across from the landmark Umi Jigoku (Sea Hell) attraction, and next to a large supermarket. We stayed in a one-night stay with two meals included, and the menu was extensive and delicious – definitely worth trying. The biggest downside of the hotel is the early check-in; we had to leave by 10:00 AM, which was very rushed! Also, the onsen (hot spring) was a bit small, and it was too hot in the open air. There wasn't a proper Japanese garden; it was just the rooms and the onsen, which lacked a certain ambiance.

GGuest UserRoom: neat clean space. lights and Aircon . the area between the beds is very spacious and there are large lockers so plenty of space to store your stuff . Bathroom: two normal showers and a large shower room where you can rent a bath hammock thing. three vanity sinks in this bathroom, then there's a toilet room with three toilets and three sinks, so lots of options. shampoo conditioner and body wash supplied. decent hairdryer. washing machine 300 yen, then dryer 100 yen per 15 mins. Security: pin code on dormitory. Amenities: there is a kitchen space and you can also order food from the 5th floor of the tower to the hostel lounge. Location: about ten minute walk from the station. plenty of eating places and shops nearby. there is a bus stop right outside. Other: might be useful if there were bins in the dormitory rather than having to go back and forth between the lounge. hooks in the bed area might also be useful e.g. for hanging your towel, although I suppose you could put it in your locker

みみかんloveIt is difficult to walk because it is a few kilometers from Beppu station, but if you can use the free shuttle bus or the fixed-route bus systematically, you can stay without a car. There is a Family Mart nearby, but be careful because alcohol is not sold. The meal is very delicious with local dishes using Oita ingredients.

GGuest UserThe hotel is nice, clean and hygienic, suitable for young people. The price is affordable. There are free hot springs nearby for the three days of New Year. It is only a seven- to eight-minute walk from Beppu Station. There is something to find on Baidu Maps. The owner is Chinese and very enthusiastic. Easy to find with Google Maps
