Outstanding
GGuest UserLocated beside the Kamo River, the scenery is stunning, and the service is impeccable. Thank you Megumi and Shoko for arranging such an unforgettable gift and hospitality. It's a hotel I would definitely stay at again.

TThe Travel HunterThis was our first time staying in the Gion area, and Hotel the Celestine truly elevated the experience. The atmosphere is calm, elegant and very Kyoto. From check in to departure, everything felt smooth and professionally handled.
The cleanliness was impeccable. The room was thoughtfully arranged with a perfect balance of modern comfort and traditional Japanese touches. Beds were extremely comfortable and the space felt well planned, not cramped like many city hotels.
What makes this hotel special is the location. Stepping outside places you immediately in the charm of old Kyoto. Walking through Gion in the early morning before the crowds arrive was unforgettable.
Service deserves special mention. The team was polite, warm and always ready to assist with genuine hospitality.
A beautiful property for anyone who appreciates quiet luxury in a prime cultural setting. We would gladly stay again.

GGuest UserEverything is perfect except the so-called wagyu dinner at the hotel restaurant. While the photo of the menu presents a nice wagyu and you can pre-order as many times as you can within 90 minutes, the beef was served in a very disgusting appearance. It is tough and dark yet it is not done inside. It is definitely not worthy of 7890 yens pax. It was electric grill but not charcoal grill. Anyway, the services provided the waiter, Alan, is brilliant. He was sincere and friendly.
The housekeeper, Ms Aina Sao was also deserve my praise. She works with a nice and sincere manner and always put a smile on her face. Also, there are free wine, snacks and beer after 3 pm. You could also grind coffee beans and make yourself a cup of nice coffee. The public bath is not a real onsen. There should be no natural minerals in the water but a slight smell of chlorine.
All in all, Hotel Potel is definitely on my list when I visit Kyoto next time.

GGuest UserThis hotel exceeded my expectations! The room was larger than average and exceptionally clean, with a separate shower and bathtub. The Refa showerhead and hairdryer were a nice touch and worked great. The room had modern amenities, and the trash bins were emptied promptly.
The hotel's location is super convenient. There are many designer shops and delicious restaurants nearby, and it's just a short walk to Nishiki Market. Karasuma Oike Station is also right next door, offering direct access to Shijo and Kyoto Station. I was really satisfied with my stay; it offers excellent value for money!
I highly recommend the wagyu BBQ restaurant next to the hotel (Wagyu Yakiniku Horumon Sankichi). The owner and staff were very friendly, the wagyu quality was superb, and the set menus were great value, plus you can enjoy all-you-can-drink!

CChengchengyipianThe hotel entrance isn't huge, but the 4th-floor reception area has a wonderful design with lots of greenery, bringing you closer to nature. It's a really comfortable spot to just sit and relax.
The room itself is spacious and comfortable, and importantly, it has a small balcony that lets in natural breezes. Having fresh, circulating air in the room is incredibly important to me.
There was a short-haired lady at the front desk who was exceptionally kind and thoughtful. When I checked my luggage, she noticed that what I'd bought was a cream roll and thoughtfully offered to refrigerate it for me. She also gave us a warm farewell when we left. Although I'm not entirely sure if she was trying to communicate with me in Chinese because I couldn't hear very well with her mask on.
There are some downsides, though. Even on the 8th floor, I was still bothered by motorcycle noise every night. I'm a light sleeper by nature, so I didn't get good rest those two nights.

TTravelsoloMight be more suitable for first timers or travellers who are into Kiyomizu temple or Gion(both location walkable from hotel)
I'm a frequent traveller to Japan/Kyoto thus location does not work well for me but not a deal breaker.
Hotel is pretty big as I feel the distance walking from elevator to room, decent size rooms with windows that can be opened for maybe 3 inches(?) Enough pillows and quiet room for good rest and also nice public areas with lotsa greens. Rooms need to be more throughly cleaned though as I found coffee/tea stains on the table top(not acceptable for hotels of this grade)
The in room water dispenser is a great idea though.
There's a bakery within the hotel itself thats open from breakfast if you are into convenience, delish but there are simply too many good bakeries(or other breakfast places) in Kyoto.

IIRADAThough the hotel itself is good (I’m staying here for a second time), this time the service was awful.1) went to breakfast, me and my friend ordered 2 dishes, when in 20 mins time there still was nothing, we reminded a waitress of our order… another 20 mins - still nothing. All in all we spent 40 mins at the breakfast restaurant and didn’t get our food. When we explained this to the hostess she just said “sorry” and we left the restaurant hungry. 2) ordered afternoon tea for 3 persons (afternoon tea is served at another restaurant at the hotel). 2 normal sets and 1 for a person who doesn’t like dairy products. That person is me. I explained that I have no allergy, I just don’t like the taste of milk, cheese, et cetera. So I’m fine with bread and with sweets, just not the ones that have cheese on top. In the end instead of the sweets they brought me a fruit platter (that’s all, my friends got a lot of different sweets), when I again explained to the hostess that I’m fine with sweets (sweet bread) and would like to eat the sweets included in the afternoon tea set she just said that they “prepared smth else” for me (she meant the fruit platter). No apology no anything. Mind you, I ordered afternoon tea last year at this same place - everything was alright! As this is a 5 star hotel and everything here is rather expensive (including breakfast and afternoon tea) this is unacceptable level if service.

SShizizhengshuijiaoThe room was very spacious, which was great. The hotel breakfast was quite rich and varied. This hotel is a good choice if you're primarily exploring the Arashiyama and Ninen-zaka areas. However, it's a bit of a walk if you're heading to the northern parts. It's a good distance to Shijo, and the matcha pudding at Ichiran is absolutely delicious. The matcha ice cream at Nanako is also amazing, and both are within walking distance.

Great
GGuest UserEverything was superb with the one exception, for an onsen hotel that have one of the selling point, in room onsen bath, the water was just regular hot water, why would I need to stay at an onsen hotel with in room onsen bath if any bathtub with hot water would do? Trip.com site did not specify that it wasn’t hot spring water. But luckily there was a better room with actual hot spring water supplied to the room available for upgrade, so I spent the extra to make my stay absolutely perfectly memorable.

Great
GGuest UserFacilities: My only complaint is that the king-size bed in the king room is made of two single mattresses pushed together, and after sleeping on it for a while, a gap forms between them.
Hygiene: The hygiene is excellent.
Environment: The surrounding area is very quiet, and there are convenience stores not too far away.
Service: The service attitude is great, and the hotel even offers free shuttle service to Kyoto Station.
