"Don't come if your family expect dinner - Ciocco may send you on a 45 mins drive! First the Positive : Great location Good modern rooms with excellent views Clean Negative: Service Checked in at 17.15 staff recommend to book in hotel restaurant (hotel 20 mins from nearest external restaurant) Booked 30 mins later for 21.00 and was told all is full despite hotel is far from full but due to non hotel bookings. Why do we book a remote hotel with restaurant to drive 45 mins to have Dinner ??? Zero will to accommodate dinner for ONE person! After dinner beware of The 4 km windy private mountain road to the Il Ciocco hotel with no lights, reflex markers or road markings and even no safety road defense in places. Check out time at 10 AM !! Better not sleep in while on holiday as you will be kicked out of bed!! Does not comply with 3 star conditions: No fridge in room but in public entry, No room phone, No desk Bathroom window straight to exterior passage with no curtain or frosted glass so nice sharing. When you book a MTB for 2 days no bike on the second day and no apologies for mistake. IN SHORT NICE FACILITIES BUT WHAT IS THAT WORTH IF YOU CANT HAVE DINNER BUT LOTS OF POOR SERVICE."

"We arrived in a rainy period but were so warmly welcomed. We were so happy with the room and the understated elegance of the whole hotel. Every member of staff goes out of the way to be polite and helpful. The location being up high gives such breath taking views. We only had B&B, but the breakfast selection was vast and of excellent quality. Everything about the hotel says luxury hotel. As it was raining quite heavily we were stuck in, but were able to use the amazing pool and spa facilities - steam & sauna. We also used the most well equipped large gym I have ever seen in a hotel. Like other reviewers here, I was a little reticent due to some bad reviews, but I am a seasoned traveller and I am unable to fathom how anyone could come away from here with a bad opinion. It's an amazing grand hotel of 5 star quality. Thank you to all the staff from the reception, the restaurant, the bar, the maids and the lovely room service boy. The staff are a credit to this very cool, grand old hotel! Thank you!"

Residence la Mezzaluna ★★

"I did the full week cooking course week with Rita at the Mezzaluna in Barga. It was exactly as described on the can: very informal, a great warm welcome, really inclusive: she drove us everywhere for the tourist trips and wine tastings... For the cooking classes she adapted everything for me being vegetarian. The rooms are super clean, very rustic, not chic, but spacious and adequate, which was fine and the price reflects that. Plus: when we knew there were two days of heavy rain: she rearranged the cooking classes into two rainy days and moved the tourist trips to the days when it didn't rain. And on the rainy day, we said can we go to a regular supermarket to look around and find things to take home: directly: no problem! We cooked and we cooked... and we ate so much, and the wine flowed..! Nothing was too much trouble. Alex delivered great musical entertainment. The added value of personal social history about her family and ancestors really added to the authenticity of the week. If you are looking for something to do which is authentic and solo and you are a foodie like me: look no further!"

"We visited Villa Moorings in 2019 and it was as lovely as ever in 2024. Everything is beautiful, peaceful and comfortable here, and Beatrice and her team are wonderful hosts. The house is amazing, the views are fantastic and the pool is perfect. Our room was spacious and spotless with everything we needed. It’s well located a short walk from the old town but away from the hustle and bustle of Barga, and handy for cafes and food shops for lunch. We had a wonderful stay and will be back again."
