Beijing Hostels

"I was unfortunately disappointed by this stay. I booked one of the single rooms they had on offer and it was a big mistake. My room had a 1x1 metre post to the side leaving me next to no floor space. I have a pretty standard sized suitcase which was impossible to open on the floor and barely enough space to unpack everything. To add to this, the mattress topper was in dire need of replacing (there were brown marks on parts of it), the pillow was old and dirty, the walls had experienced damp and were scuffed, and all in all the room was more of a cupboard long overdue a makeover. I was due to be staying in Beijing for 4 nights but decided to cut my stay short here as for £10 extra a night there is a hotel with ensuite bathrooms down the road. I would rather have some level of comfort even if this is supposedly a cheap room for Beijing, I didn't think it was worth it. The rest of the hostel looked okay, the hostel dorm beds looked modern and the toilets were adequate apart from the fact that other guests in the hostel were washing their dirty socks in the sink, which I have never seen before in all of the hostels I have been in and thought it was a bit disgusting. But it doesn't seem like it is too bad a hostel - just not good single rooms! All in all, please note that if you're booking one of the private rooms, don't make the same mistake as me! It's more of a pantry cupboard than a bedroom, great for a short stay, although difficult for anything longer."

"This hotel was somewhere between ok and good for its price. The check-in process was good, and the staff was friendly, but why did the staff have to make me open the bags and scan for explosives. I have never been to any other hotel in China that requests their guests to open their luggage for detailed inspection. The facility of the hotel is quite nice compared to another Wohkoon I have stayed at. There is a free washing machine and a drying rack outdoors where you can hang dried clothes. Something that I would like to point out (that I found strange and somewhat inefficient) is the layout of the room. In each room, there are 3 or 4 capsule-style beds(depending on the price you pay), but there is no centralised bathroom or shower area. Instead, there is a sink, toilet bowl, and shower in each of the room's bathrooms, so you can not use the sink while your roommate is taking a bath, and you can not access the toilet in another room because it requires a key card to access another room. Also, the shower area is not fully enclosed, so the area of the toilet bowl and the sink can get wet easily, and this problem exacerbates when multiple people use the bathroom. Also, there is a space on top of your bed to put luggage, but it is full of dust."

"I really enjoyed my stay! The room was comfortable with a big window to let lots of natural light in. Bottled water was provided everyday, and there was also a kettle to boil water. Towels, toiletries, and a hairdryer were also provided in the private room. I enjoyed the communal areas, too. They are very comfortable and the staff are helpful. My only complaint is that the bathroom had a strong smell, from the plumbing I assume, but I think this is fairly common for old buildings in the hutongs."

"This Hostel has many plants. If you like greenery you will enjoy this. The location is in inside a Wutong community. It’s quiet away from the street. The staff can speak English well. They offered amenities kindly. The common area has space for reading, sketching or chatting. The bedrooms are basic with a storage unit. (If you travel in winter bring warm sleeping clothes.) Location close to the metro makes your travel experience smooth."

"The house is pretty good, small and safe. The quilt has a homely feel and is very comfortable. The small skylight looks beautiful from the first floor. It is not stuffy when you open the small skylight at night. The environment in the yard is very comfortable and quiet at night. I recommend traveling alone here. There is also a bar and a small restaurant outside. It is very warm when you turn on the lights at night. I have a small suggestion. There is only a toothbrush on the washbasin in the room. I hope you can add a disposable toilet seat and trimming tools in the future. This will be more hygienic and convenient, and it will be even more powerful."

"The stay was generally pleasant. The woman running the place is friendly and speaks English, which was helpful. However, the location is about a 20-minute walk from the metro, and there’s not much of a shared space or traveler atmosphere. If it hadn’t been the cheapest option, I probably would have stayed somewhere else."

"Difficult to find if you don't already know the area; it's an unassuming doorway on the third floor up a random flight of stairs! At least in the winter time, most staff and occupants are Chinese. I suppose it's a good chance to practice Mandarin, and you shouldn't have to worry about noisy Westerners killing the vibe. It's an acceptable level of cleanliness and there is a small fridge next to the admin office. There are also two malls and what appear to be several clubs around the other side of the block (towards Wudaokou station) so be sure to have a good look around."

"My cabin had boogers on the walls, which is just unacceptable. The whole place just didn’t satisfy my cleanliness criteria. The chairs of the common areas were stained, the walls were dirty, etc. The cabin is also on the smaller side. The room was packed when I was there, but the air circulation wasn’t good at all. Other guests have also been inconsiderate during my stay, being loud and smoking inside the bathroom. Shower didn’t drain properly so I was standing in a puddle while showering. Not to mention, there’s an unhealthy amount of mould on the ceiling. They do provide soap, shampoo and body wash though. The toilets are squat only. Location is not bad, it’s very close to Wudaokou Station and Summer Palace is around 30 minutes away. Other major attractions in the central area, such as Tiananmen Square, take around an hour with two transfers at least."

"The room is very clean and well-equipped. It is close to the train station, subway station, and bus station, making travel very convenient. It is not noisy and the accommodation atmosphere is very good."
