The room was pretty clean. We weren’t able to locate the hotel at first because it’s only in Chinese at the front door. No complaint about the room. However, we had ordered breakfast since check in, but they did not provide as we ordered. We only had 2 mains for the group of 4 people. It’s difficult to communicate since non speak Chinese so we just had the little food from the courtesy line.

Perfect getaway accommodation. The place is serene. The room is very clean, bed and pillows were comfortable too. Bathroom amenities were complete and comes with thick n soft bathrobe too. The Jasmine green tea leaves, tea set and apples added a nice touch to the already awesome room. The only thing to consider would be the flight of stairs you will need to go up to the Inn. I would say it felt like having to go up 3 floors of stairs but for us, it was not a problem at all. If you are reasonably fit, this is definitely the best place to stay in Gubei Watertown. The view at night from there is superb.

A homestay very close to Gubei Water Town. It is rare to see such a clean yard. It is located at the foot of the Panlong Mountain Great Wall. You can see the majestic Great Wall when you drive into the village. The yard covers a large area and there is a beautiful swimming pool. It can be seen that it is carefully cleaned. The yard is full of flowers. The pleasant environment makes people calm down all of a sudden. The owner enthusiastically introduced the surrounding attractions. We went to the Great Wall for a walk in the afternoon. The children can also play on the swings in the yard. This homestay also has delicious coffee. I will try to bring the elderly to play together next time~

It was hot in the city, so I thought about going to Gubeikou to escape the heat. I saw that the weather forecast was also 40 degrees, so I was a little worried! After I came here, I found that it was still very cool here! The yard is two-story, the room is cool, and you don’t need to turn on the air conditioner when you sleep at night. Blowing the cool breeze from the mountains, eating a small barbecue, chatting with family and friends under the starry sky, a happy life is like this! The boss’s wife is easy-going and enthusiastic, and the boss’s cooking skills are perfect. After eating and drinking, go home to move bricks!

Lovely location in the middle of the town, huge breakfast spread, and helpful staff. Homey vibes, just that hot water wasn’t always available in the shower, and the heater wasn’t working at night. Reckon it’s not an issue if you’re not visiting in winter. Lots of snack shops and restaurants within walkable distance. Checkout the town’s free drone show at night too :)

Highly recommended! This location is excellent. The room is very BIG, fitting for two people and two large suitcases. The tea in the room is very great!! The lobby is a bit small. The staff is friendly, though they don't speak English; using Google Translate is the best way to communicate. This water town is very beautiful. You should spend 1-2 nights here to visit the Great Wall both during the day and at night, as it's stunning at both times. Overall, it was great, and I'll be back.

This was a wonderfully unique experience for us living in a (fully renovated) stone house in an ancient village at the foot of the Great Wall. March is a great time to visit if you prefer peace and quiet and few tourists. The inn is quaint and pleasant. The room is small and cozy, and the ambience, including the large bay window overlooking the street and the large wooden beams on the ceiling, makes you feel like you really are living in another era. The inn is located inside the Watertown, so you will need to walk a bit from the entrance of the Watertown. It is centrally located in the Watertown, so you are right in the middle of all the fun and activity. We really appreciated the free luggage service - you drop off your luggage at the entrance when you purchase tickets and enter the Watertown, and they bring your luggage to your inn. Once you’re done enjoying the Watertown and Great Wall, your luggage is waiting for you at the inn. Breakfast at the inn was absolutely delicious - highly recommend trying the wonton soup and the fresh soy milk!

Duan’s Quadrangle Inn is perfectly located. Within a stone’s throw away, not only is there the ticket office for boat tours and the Simatai Great Wall, you’ll find the entrance to Simatai is right in front of you; the boat tour starts from the dock about 5 metres from the office. You must try Duan’s hot springs (indoor and outdoor) and sauna for a relaxing experience. They provide towels and flippers/sliders, and lockers in the changing room. The morning breakfast buffet was a convenient way to start our day! There were continental as well as Chinese food and drinks. As the restaurant is located on the first floor, we sat in the terrace, overlooking the lake. The staff are polite and helpful. They have a mini shop outside the hot springs section if you forget to bring your waterproof phone holder. Overall, we’ve had a lovely time staying at Duan’s and we would not hesitate to stay again! Enjoy your trip!

Final Beijing Hotels Booking Tips

  • Book Beijing Hotels Like a Local – secure your room 4–6 months ahead for the busiest travel windows: National Day Golden Week (Oct 1–7) and Chinese New Year (Jan/Feb) sell out first. For the Olympic Winter Games anniversary (February) or major political events, plan 8+ months early. Then, check the hotel’s own website for exclusive offers or upgrades.
  • Navigate Beijing’s Quirks Smartly. Note that the subway closes around 11:30 PM; if enjoying Sanlitun’s nightlife, budget CNY 50+ (AU$11+) for a DiDi ride back. Book Early, Especially for Peak/Events. Hotels fill fast during holidays, summer break (Jul–Aug), and major conventions (CIFTIS, Auto China).
  • Prioritize Transit-Friendly, Value-Focused Neighborhoods. Skip overpriced Wangfujing and chaotic Guomao. Stay near Dongzhimen (subway Lines 2, 13, and Airport Express) or Chaoyangmen (Line 6 and easy access to embassy area). First-timers: Choose Wangfujing (Forbidden City access, shopping), Sanlitun (trendy, international, nightlife), or Qianmen (traditional, hutongs, budget-friendly). Avoid hotels outside the 5th Ring Road unless attending specific events.

GGuest UserI went to the next day of Qingming Festival. It was temporarily set. The environment was good, clean and hygienic. The uncles and aunts were super enthusiastic. After playing, they came out to eat at nine o'clock. Five people ordered five dishes. The farmhouse dishes were very cost-effective. The mountain spring water was also very good. ~ Praise recommendation ~ Next time I have a chance, I will go back.

The check-in experience was great. The family went out for a trip and encountered heavy rain. Many projects were cancelled, so we could only visit the ancient town in the rain. However, the accommodation conditions are really good. The location is near the entrance of the scenic spot, and you can walk to the ticket office in three minutes. The family fell in love with the duplex room the first time they entered the room. The living room downstairs is very comfortable and they can take a nap on the sofa. There are two rooms upstairs that can accommodate five people. There is also a dedicated area for children with complete facilities and equipment. Because of the high floor, you can enjoy the night view of the ancient town and the Simatai Great Wall at night. There are restaurants and supermarkets downstairs, which is convenient for eating and shopping. There are discounts for booking in advance and it feels like great value for money! The message sent by the landlord is detailed and reading it carefully can save a lot of trouble.

GGuest UserNight tour of Simatai Great Wall and Gubei Water Town, after the tour, it is more than nine o'clock, contact folk customs, ask the boss for the menu before waiting for the Great Wall, order in advance, and eat after ten o'clock, the boss's dishes taste good, and affordable, we have not finished eating, a little waste, The mutton skewers grilled by the boss are very authentic. We live on the first floor, and there is only one room on the stairs, so it is very quiet. The two owners are very real and speak very softly. Say how late we go down to cook for us! Like a ~

GGuest UserI have to complain about this private hot spring room. The private hot spring is in the public area. How can it be private? The hot spring pool is in a row on the right side of the courtyard, and the room is in a building dozens of meters away. When the customer service lady contacted me, she said it was 20 meters away. I naively believed it. Looking at the pictures in the details, I imagined that it might be on the terrace. In fact, it is more than 20 meters from the room to the staircase. I would definitely not book it if I knew the actual situation was like this. In the middle of winter, it was minus 13 or 14 degrees Celsius, and I had to run a 100-meter sprint to soak in the hot spring. In the end, I booked three private hot spring rooms, but one of the pools was not filled with water. In the other two pools, only one person soaked in it. Only four young and strong people soaked in it. How did Ctrip review the room type? This is called a hot spring private hot spring room?

GGuest UserSuper helpful guesthouse very close to one trailhead to the Wall. They have mastered the English translation app so it is not a problem if you don't speak Chinese. They can help organize affordable transportation - for example, one of us got dropped off at Panlongshan to hike to Jinshanling and the other got dropped at Jinshanling and the driver waited for 3 to 4 hours for us to return us both back to Gubeikou. It might be worth asking if they can pick you up at the train station because the taxi guy we had didn't know where this place was. Big breakfasts and dinners! Perhaps the biggest breakfast we have had in China! Lovely Grandma of the house- always making sure you were well fed. Thank you!

WWawaI went to Gubei Water Town on a rainy day, I didn’t plan to go to the water town because I brought the dog. Just change a place to sleep and play cards for a weekend After contacting the hotel one day in advance, the person in charge knew that we were bringing the elderly, children and dogs, and directly upgraded us to the first phase. On this day in Gubei, the rain was heavy. The staff came to pick us up at the gate of the community under the rain, and helped us actively coordinate our move in as soon as possible. With special patience and dedication, we arranged a house with a yard for us. Let Mao children run as much as they want.
