"I seldom share my experiences in Chinese hotels. That is a mistake. China’s hotels are among the world’s most comfortable and reasonably priced.  I am now in the home of chairman Mao and staying at the very comfortable Jianguo hotel. After arriving in  Shaoshan  (over 38 years since my last visit), I have been overwhelmed by the friendliness of the local people and the staff at the Jianguo hotel.  In what may be called one of the more politically important destinations in China, I have found open arms and smiles. My American friends can learn something from this. I am clearly not a local but, even during this time of geopolitical tension, I am receiving nothing less than genuine  friendship, no animosity, and this makes me feel optimistic. I hope that we in the United States can learn from the Chinese people’s example. Thank you, everybody at the Jianguo Hotel. including Liu Zheng who personally took me to Chairman Mao’s residence this morning.  He offered to do this while eating dinner in the hotel restaurant last night (please try the 香椿拌豆腐). He introduced me to the park’s director and facilitated everything to make this visit so special. Liu Jingli just treated me to lunch and is driving  me to the train station. This kind of service I’ve never received before in my hundred plus countries and I think that it is important that we share these stories with the outside world. This hospitality, too, is an essential part of China. (I would argue it is even more real than the news stories we receive out of Washington DC.) Chairman Mao’s home will forever echo with not just memories of the past but optimism of a more respectful and inclusive future."

"Highly recommended!!! Nestled in a quiet courtyard at the foot of Shaofeng Mountain, the rooms are clean and fresh, and the courtyard has a great atmosphere. In the evening, I enjoyed a drink with friends in the courtyard, enjoying the mountain breeze. Breakfast was delicious, especially the rice noodles. The kitchen lady enthusiastically added fresh day lilies grown at home, which were delicious. 😍 The most important thing is that the proprietress is beautiful and generous. We had a lot of fun drinking and chatting together in the evening."

"The hardware facilities and services of Shaoshan Hotel are very good, it is relatively quiet, and the rooms are large in size. Especially it is the closest to Shaoshan Scenic Area. The former residence and bronze statue of the great leader Chairman Mao are right in front of you! It just so happened that the children were on vacation and we specially brought the educational significance of red tourism. The service worth mentioning was an unexpected surprise. Extra points. Miss No. 263 received a five-star rating. She was enthusiastic, professional and courteous! It is more reliable and convenient to stay in this kind of state hotel when traveling. In addition, the tour guide was very helpful when visiting the Chairman’s former residence! It is highly recommended to find a tour guide to explain! "As a history enthusiast, I took my mother to Shaoshan for the New Year's holiday, and it was truly a wonderful place! I found it very interesting and learned more about Chairman Mao's life. The hotel we stayed at was excellent—very clean and satisfactory, just as I've always been impressed with Lavande Hotels. The price was also very reasonable. "When I came, I didn't feel how the hotel was. I only found out when I entered the room. The hotel is clean, tidy, elegant, comfortable, warm and luxurious.
