"Hotel Yanagawa Harukyu-so is a relatively new hotel. Free parking at open air carpark opposite the hotel. Our ground floor hotel room had an amazing view of the zen garden and the public bath is just a few steps away on the same level. Hotel staffs are friendly and speaks English. Japanese-style Breakfast was one of the best so far. We absolutely loved our 1-night stay at Harukyu-so."

"This is my first time visiting Yanagawa for a boat trip, even though I've been to Fukuoka many times. Luckily, the weather today was perfect after the rain, with no harsh sun. We took the hotel's sightseeing boat, and our boatman, Ken, was amazing! He was so lively and engaging, making the whole experience 100% perfect. While the hotel's facilities show a bit of age, for a Japanese-style hotel, they are actually quite well-maintained. The hotel's restaurant is decent, but if you have a big appetite, you might want to bring some extra snacks for later."

"I had a really wonderfull stay at this cosy Ryokan in Yanagawa. Though most people come to Yanagawa as a day trip from Fukuoka, I think its a nice enough place to stay for a couple of nights. The ryokan is in an old fashioned style building, so it transports you to a different feeling in time. The people who ran it were very generous, offering me snacks and tea constantly, even a welcome ice cream! Their warmth and comfort added to the atmosphere of the place. The room I chose was spacious, with a large window, air con, a TV and comfortable tatami floors. The atmosphere is very traditional, and when it rained, it felt rather peaceful. They are located 15 minutes's walk from the station, it's easy to walk to any location in the town, and when you do so, you get to see lots of hidden small canals and amazing buildings. Even close to the ryokan is a hidden shrine. There are lots of restaurants in the area serving the local speciality Unagi (Grilled Eel), which I highly recommend trying. I would definitely stay here again! The best part is downstairs, they have a Jazz bar (Kissa) called Groovy, the owner was fun to talk to, he had many records from over the years and interesting stories to share. As a lover of Japanese jazz culture, this was the best thing ever. "

"We stayed one night each at the New Gaea Hotel in Kumamoto and Yanagawa during this trip. While some facilities and complimentary drinks were similar, we preferred our stay at the New Gaea Hotel in Kumamoto.
In comparison, Yanagawa's strong point is its location near scenic spots. Opening the window, we could see the Yanagawa river and trains passing by occasionally. The scenery was pleasant, and strolling along the swaying willows of Yanagawa or taking a boat ride was very enjoyable. However, the room space was cramped, which made us uncomfortable. Additionally, the toilet's excessive water usage with each flush, which seemed like a minor flaw for us who value water conservation.
Nonetheless, when we enjoyed their mellow and delicious beer and various drinks, we had a delightful conversation, and it felt like a truly wonderful experience. These are beautiful memories."
