"The Castle House Guest House is homey, charming and comfortable, with a great breakfast. We were four guests in two rooms: me, my son, and my elderly parents. The stairs were a bit of a challenge for my mom and dad, as the stairways are very narrow, but the accommodations were clean and cozy. Okay, so I rated CHGH very high because it was just what we were looking for. It’s a converted home with a wonderful home-feel, right at the base of Dover Castle. That being said, here are the things to keep in mind: - narrow stairwells, can be tricky for lots of luggage. - both big and small rooms, the rooms won’t be uniform in layout. - on a hill, approach to the hotel is on castle hill so the walk is sloped. - it’s not particularly close to the train station, may warrant a cab if walking isn’t an option. What’s great - It’s a lived-in space, the family that runs it is in residence - Breakfast is delicious - It’s a great access either to the castle in one direction or one of Dover’s main streets in the other, with restaurants and shops."

"Highly recommended. Alex was very friendly and helpful, breakfast (self service) was great, price is of good value, bed was comfy, and the house built in 1834 was historical and well maintained. Only complaint is probably the low shower water pressure though, but it is not an issue considering the age of this house."

"We booked for a local wedding many months ago but the stay was at a different Premier Inn When we checked in we were under the impression the room paid for had been transferred. We were informed a refund had been made but we could not find the evidence. However Eloise was delightful in how she dealt with it and we paid again. Later we discovered we had not gone back far enough in time. So an apology is due to Eloise and thank you for being so very pleasant."
Park Inn Palace ★★
"This is one of the WORST hotels that I have stayed in my life time. We had booked two rooms from 19/3/26 to 22/3/26 (3 nights). As soon as we entered my room, the door closed and I was shocked to find that there was NO HANDLE to open the door from inside! Fortunately we could get out as we were travelling as a family and they opened the door from outside. The room was changed, the new room was as hot as a furnace, though the outside temperature was 5 degrees celsius. Reason given was "the room is getting direct sunlight". A fan was provided as the AC was not working. This didn't help much. Next morning there was no hot water in the room. This was restored after wasting approx two hours of our precious time, but the room continued to be suffocating. Again our room was changed and the new room door could not be double locked from inside as the lock was misaligned. Also the bathroom drain was clogged. The man at the reception expressed his helplessness to do anything about it as "it was difficult to get a mechanic in that location". Worst of all, the reception desk was not manned throughout our stay. To contact reception, we had to make a local call to their number and most of the time the call was unanswered. I strongly recommend that this hotel is blacklisted so that no one suffers the way we did."

"We found this little gem to stay at whilst visiting family. Rooms were very comfortable clean and had everything you needed for an overnight stay. We had a table booked for dinner. Food was excellent, reasonably priced and the staff were brilliant despite them being left short staffed due to illness. We will use them again if down this way."

"If you want to lose your money... I made a reservation via *********** at the Alma Hostel. When I arrived at the hotel, no one answered the door, the door was locked, and the windows were boarded up. No one answered the phone. There's a gas station across the street, and the employees told me it was closed, that it used to be a pub, but the owner was an alcoholic. I called *********** to see if they could intervene, but they didn't get a response either. I went to the police. They took me to the Travel Lodge in Dover. They charged my card £50 for the reservation, which I never got back."
