"We loved our stay here. The reception staff are so helpful. They put us in touch with a lovely family (Miriam and family) who provide a wonderful taxi service all over the island. They are the best place to go for any advice. Food was very good. But the best part was the amazing views from the dining room which looks out across the swimming pool to Mt Pico. The clouds change by the minute and the sunsets are fabulous. Take your camera. You can sit inside or out. You get the same view from rooms facing the harbour. Highly recommended!"

"What a fantastic Hotel. The Staff without exception were the best we've experienced in a long time. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was excellent both breakfast and dinner. The lovely chef recommended the Swordfish for our second dinner having been caught 4 hours before. It was an absolute delight. Our lovely room had a view of Pico. Definitely a fantastic trip. "

"The hotel is located right in the centre of Horta with easy access to the port. The rooms are basic but are great value for money with the most amazing view of Pico. If you like a nice coffee in the morning, take a trip to A Padaria just down the street."

"Susana, Francisco and their wonderful team made this a brilliant few days in Faial. Lovely location, great beds, wonderful grounds and a salt water pool to cool down in. Maybe not for the younger generation who need more action but frankly they aren’t going to find that in Horta anyway. We came to see whales and to relax and both those boxes were ticked. "The location is great as it’s on the edge of town and across from the ocean with great ocean views. Also opening the windows and hearing the waves while in your room is certainly nice. The design of the property and the room was nice. They put breakfast in the room that includes coffee, juice, croissants, yogurt, meat and cheese. The room came with a sink, refrigerator, stove top for cooking, microwave, a panini press and a pod coffee maker. The bed was too hard for me. Also it was two small beds pushed together and they would split apart in the night and create a canyon that you fall into. There is a bar and restaurant on the first floor, which is nice if you want to stumble from your table up to your bed, but it can be loud if you’re trying to sleep. I didn’t eat at the restaurant so not sure how the food is. Parking at the end of the day can be difficult as the lot is full from the combination of people staying at the hotel and dining at the restaurant. Otherwise plenty of parking. The toilet paper was similar to a natural fiber paper towel, so not soft at all."

"Great place to stay in Horta, just a few minute’s drive or 10 minutes’ walk to the town center, and great views across the bay to the Monte. Access to the building and room was through door codes, so easy check-in. Our room had a nice sea/mountain view, plenty of windows, was clean and comfortable. Next to our room was the very nice communal kitchen for preparing and eating meals – really a great asset. The AC worked well, as did the Wifi internet. We really enjoyed are stay here and would definitely stay here again."

"My wife and I spent the first week of May 2026 at the Patio Ecolodge and rode their Faial Island Trail. We are in out late 60's and experienced riders. Prior to arrival, I found the booking and subsequent correspondence to be a smooth process and found the staff to be very responsive to any question. I was pleased to find that they were very flexible and accommodating regarding dates and requests. Upon on arrival at the Faial airport, we were met promptly by a staff member and driven to the lodge. The lodge is multi-building compound on the outskirts of a small village (5-minute walk) in rural setting replete with cow pastures and lovely ocean views. We stayed in one of their apartments and found it to be perfect for our needs. It was clean, comfortable, quiet, in excellent condition and had a marvelous ocean view from the balcony. There was small refrigerator with a little freezer, an induction cook-top and the appropriate pots, pans and utensils. Our room was cleaned daily. There was a small restaurant that served the same buffet breakfast each morning with cold foods and scrambled eggs and bacon. Dinners were served in the same restaurant and were quite good (some excellent). As part of a package, the dinner menu was set, and we did not order from the menu. The bar service was nice with draft beer and a wine selection (drinks for purchase). Additionally, there was a small indoor pool, and spa services were available. My wife had a massage and was hoping for deep tissue. She had the Zen massage and found it a bit too "Zen." The reason we came to the Ecolodge was for the horseback riding, and we were not disappointed. The horses and riding staff are provided by another company that is essentially on the property and works closely with the Ecolodge. We learned the "horse portion" was previously owned by the Ecolodge owner but now is its own business (same with the restaurant). They brought the horses to the lodge on several of the mornings. We would meet at 9 AM to groom and tack the horses. After a ride, we also cared for the horses. On a few days, the horses spent nights in different pastures on different parts of the island, and we were driven back and forth to the horses. This was to accommodate our rides on other sides of the island. The Lusitano horses were fun to ride and were very well-cared for by the staff. The guides were flexible, interested, safety-conscious and full of local information about the island and its history. The rides were a mix of walk, trot, canter and gallop. We found them exhilarating and greatly enjoyed the riding portion of our stay. We were the only riders for the first 2 days but were joined by 2 other experienced riders from Germany who were an enjoyable addition to our adventure. The average riding day was 4-5 hours with time off for a sack lunch of a sandwich, fruit, juice box and a candy bar. There was one longer day when we rode over the top of the caldera.
