Hakuba Canadian Lodge ★★

📍 4715-4 Hokujo, Hakuba, Kitaazumi District, Hakuba

"This hotel offers a one-bedroom apartment with a living room and a kitchen, plus a washing machine with a dryer, all for the price of a regular hotel room. It's an incredible value for money!"

Hakuba Tokyu Hotel

Hakuba Tokyu Hotel ★★★★

📍 4688 Hokujo, Hakuba, Kitaazumi District, Hakuba

"I really liked this hotel. My first impression was actually better than expected because the photos on the website don’t do it justice. In real life, the hotel looks much nicer and more modern than in the pictures—it doesn’t look old at all. Everything felt clean and well maintained. I also really liked that the hotel has a ski rental shop inside the building, which was very convenient since I didn’t have to walk far. Returning the equipment was also very easy—you just drop it off. The only thing I wish they had more of was the laundromat, especially the drying machines, as they were quite limited. Other than that, I had a very pleasant stay and would definitely recommend this hotel."

Ringo Lodge Hakuba ★★

"The accommodation was very clean. The bed was comfortable and clean. The onsen was small but comfortable to soak in. It's a shame that you can only see part of the mountain view."

The Happo by Hhg ★★★★

📍 5090-1, Hokujo, Hakuba

"The hotel is a 5-minute walk from Hakuba Happo Station. The hotel has a bus that can be used at any time. The facilities are rated 4.5 points because the refrigerator in the hotel is really noisy. I am considered a deep sleeper, but I was woken up by the refrigerator in the middle of the night. Everything else is good. You can walk to Lawson. Because I went there on November 1st, many stores were closed, but you can foresee how many people there will be during the ski season."

"Stayed 3 nights in early October. Was able to arrange stay by directly contacting hotel, despite website saying no availability Hotel Manager (Owner, May?) Wonderful, quaint small Ryokan hotel. Easy to get to from bus station. Great traditional food for breakfast and had dinner one night…superb local fish, vegetables and assorted delicacies. Delicious chilled Buckwheat tea daily in lobby! Onsen was the highlight…very quiet and relaxing. May made our visit so superb, discount lift tickets to Happo pond, dinner reservations @ Zen Soba restaurant, shuttle to train station. As I learned during our stay, the experience was truly “ Subarashii”"

"The innkeeper was incredibly welcoming, and the retro ambiance was fantastic. Our stay was excellent, and the location is super convenient for Wulong Ski Resort. Every day, heading out to ski and coming back, the innkeeper would warmly greet us and chat, creating a really great atmosphere."

"Loved the private onsen. The ladies were so helpful and attentive in the hotel. We never ate dinner there as it’s a French restaurant and we wanted Japanese food. The breakfast was brought up to the room and consisted of fresh baked croissants and butter and jam and coffee. NOT a full breakfast. "

Hatago Maruhachi Hotels in Hakuba

"This hotel promises a charming stay in a unique atmosphere with traditional Japanese architecture, and it absolutely delivers, if the goal was historical accuracy over modern comfort. While the interiors have technically been “renovated,” the experience feels more like a living museum exhibit titled “How People Survived Before Electricity and Heating.” There is no central heating and only a limited number of portable heaters are provided. Similarly, the dry room is inadequate being an outside structure with a literal barbeque as the heating device, a recipe for wet ski gear. Lighting was also minimal. Cleanliness, unfortunately, took a creative direction. The number of cockroaches found was hard to ignore. One even took the liberty of crawling across a pillow, which was an interesting way to be welcomed. For a country renowned for world-class hygiene, this was a truly unexpected cultural experience. On a good note, the staff were polite and unfailingly apologetic. Sadly, they appeared to be very junior and entirely unable to resolve any issues, serving mainly as emotional support. In summary, perfect for travellers seeking a dark, cold, and spontaneous insect encounters. Anyone expecting warmth, cleanliness, or basic comfort may wish to look… literally anywhere else."

"Beautiful wooden house, clean and hygienic. There are rooms with bathrooms. Some rooms are shared. WiFi is not available in some rooms. Since it is a wooden house, you have to walk lightly. Overall, it is very good! Consider staying here if you have the opportunity to come to Hakuba!"

Hakuba Ikeda Life Kan Apartments

"My family of three, including my three-year-old, booked two nights in early November. The gas stove was convenient, allowing us to cook our own meals. We drove there, making it relatively easy to move around. However, the worst part was the bedding and mattress. The bedding was bundled with a blanket, but it was incredibly uncomfortable. After one night, we drove five hours straight home the following evening, wasting a night's payment. We figured we'd make do with the cheap price, but there was practically no comfortable sleep."

Mizuho Chalet Hotels in Hakuba

Mizuho Chalet

"Overall, our stay was enjoyable, and the chalet matched the photos. However, I’d rate it 3.5 stars due to poor value for the peak-season price. Check-in instructions were unclear, leaving us to search for our villa in the cold. There were no manuals for the heater, boiler, or washer, and the boiler kept turning off unexpectedly. The concierge was attentive, but these issues dampened the experience. These manuals / improvements / attention to detail should be easy fixes for the management company, but a major oversight for a company that prides itself on hospitality."

"The place is great. It feels very new and the living space was very good. We booked the 2 bedroom with loft. The loft do have another 2 beds, so the apartment can easy stay 6 people. However, there is only one shower and toilet. So it might be a little busy there during peak hour 😂. A good thing is they are seperated. We enjoyed our stay and will stay again if we visit again. We drove, so location was not an issue for us."

"The hotel is located in a very central place and most of the restaurants, cafes are at a walkable distance. The rooms are pretty big when compared to other Japanese hotels and they have free onsen. The only downside will be hygiene, we found cockroaches in our shoes in the morning, two days straight."

The Happo by Hhg ★★★★
"We had a lovely stay at the Happo with our 8 and 11 year-old boys in July. The family room is really well equipped with bunkbeds and has a nice fun vibe. The staff (many Aussies and Kiwis) were extremely helpful. The Club House next door prepared simple but tasty food and was open quite long hours. There is also an Italian restaurant on site but it was closed while we were there. As we were there during summer they were very limited food options with most restaurants around the town closed for the season. The resort has a very modern Onsen that was really nice too. Overall great! Very central. Car essential during summer season. I think during the ski season and you would be fine without because I think the Happo offers free shuttles to the ski lifts etc."

"Included dinner was great and it was a 4 course meal. Breakfast was also great with unlimited bread. At 4pm onwards, you can use the hot bath. Dinning room and living room have heaters so you won't worry about being cold. Room also has heater that you can set as you like. Fyi, it's the norm in Hakuba to charge extra for that heating, it was 500 yen a day."
