Artelo ★★

📍 201 Birch Street, Kennett Square

"Upon arrival, neither of the 4-digit check-in codes worked. Just so happens that there was a young man in a white truck on the property watering plants and he provided us with a direct number to Jen, the Manager. After 5 voicemail messages between that young gentleman, myself and my dear friend, Jen FINALLY called us back and blamed the INCORRECT entry code numbers on Trip.com NOT communicating with Artelo (the hotel) staff. It was 91 degrees and took 30 minutes before we received NEW entry codes to get in to our respective rooms. Jen never once offered complimentary snacks or drinks to make up for this inconvenience. THEN, to add insult to injury, the next morning we wake up to 10 CONSTRUCTION VEHICLES IN THE PARKING LOT working on another hotel being built within feet of the place we were staying and were NEVER told that we would encounter this situation. In general, the Artelo hotel TOTALLY LACKS curb appeal because it is just one large black-topped parking lot in front of the place and then ADD IN CONSTRUCTION noise, the overall experience was a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Would NEVER RECOMMEND this place to ANY one, ever!"

The Bookhouse Hotel ★★

📍 130 S Union St, Kennett Square

"We stayed at the Bookhouse hotel as part of a visit to Longwood Gardens on December 4th. The hotel personifies "curated" from the incredible selection of books to the smallest detail of decoration. It is in within easy walking distance of three good restaurants. We went to Trattoria La Tavola for dinner - found it was BYOB - and walked over to Letty's Tavern to pick up a bottle of wine. To our surprise the hotel and Kennett Square added significantly to our enjoyment of the visit."

The Francis Inn & Suites

📍 205 S Union St, Kennett Square

"I had high hopes for this local boutique hotel for a birthday weekend with a loved one. My review doesn't include an actual stay though, because my reservation (booked on March 31st for June 13th) was canceled by management today (May 27th) with the following email message: "I regret to inform you that we need to cancel your reservation for 6/13-6/14. Unfortunately the hotel needs to close Friday 6/12 and Saturday 6/13 for an unforeseen circumstance" as well as "we had a computer reservation glitch" from someone else when I called to inquire. When I suggested it sounded like my reservation was being bumped for something else, she offered a recommendation for other hotels in the area and an undisclosed discount on a future stay. The continued decline in the importance of hospitality within the hospitality industry is sad to me. And in lieu of a response from ownership, I would instead ask them to use YouTube and search "Seinfeld - The Car Reservation". That's how I feel right now."

The Bookhouse Hotel ★★
"In early May we stayed in a lovely updated sister property--Bookhouse at Faunbrook--in West Chester, PA. Our room (Darlington) was spacious and very comfortable. As its name suggests, it has an extensive and interesting collection of books for guests to borrow. We have visited the Brandywine Valley area before and found this to be a good base from which to reach many of the local attractions. We appreciated the variety of restaurants available in downtown West Chester, while being able to retreat to the quieter environment of the hotel. On-site parking is a welcome feature. We will definitely consider returning."

"Brand new, in excellent shape. Great bathroom. Good climate control. Bottom floor units hear lots of footsteps above."
