Our first stop in Hokkaido, and after much deliberation over various hot spring hotels, this one offered the best overall value for money. We were very satisfied, and here are the highlights:

The lake-view room was fantastic. While not huge, the tatami setup was perfectly fine for three people. The scenery was stunning, offering different beautiful views from morning to evening, plus a direct line to watch the nightly fireworks.

The rooftop onsen has alternating male and female access each day. Since we stayed two nights, our entire family got to experience both. Soaking in the hot springs while watching the Lake Toya fireworks was a truly wonderful experience.

The half-board plan (dinner and breakfast) was of great quality and offered plenty of variety. We feasted on delicious seafood donburi until we were absolutely stuffed – though having it two days in a row was a bit much!

The location was also excellent, making it convenient for catching buses and accessing the boat pier for island excursions.

And yes, the legendary large bird actually paid a visit to our balcony!

It might have not been clearly mentioned but there is no air-conditioning provided, only central heating. During my time there, weather was cold out so the room only had 3 levels, low heat, medium heat and high heat. There is no way to sleep in those conditions and it took me a while to realize because the receptionist on the help desk phone did not speak English, so I went down to the lobby past midnight to ask the only staff available. Through some help on google translate and his hand gestures, I was told that I had to leave my windows open to let cold air into the room. This was not explained at any point during the check-in so I guess that's the downside for foreigners wanting to stay here. There's also a hot spring tax you have to pay when you check out. All things considered Jozankei is not a big town so everything is accessible and the hotel is generally comfortable otherwise.

Hotel includes dinner and breakfast. Dining is at the ”food hall”, buffet style.  Not including the study drinks yen 350. There is a kids corner on the right when entering the cashier counter.  The room was on.  Japanese style.  Maybe due to the environment, the room looks tired. All mental parts were badly rushed in  toilet. Car parking is behind the hotel up the hill.  Walking to the hell valley is a good 10-15 walk up hill.  Could just drive up and park for yen 500. 

Overall the place was OK, just old feeling
