AWON HOTEL MIRISSA ★★★★

📍 Aluthgedara waththa, Udupila Road, Mirissa

"Our stay at Awon Hotel was really good! The rooms were decent and comfortable, and the hygiene and cleanliness were excellent. The best part is the location, it is very close to the beach and most of the main attractions in Mirissa. Most importantly, the owner was incredibly friendly and helpful with everything, especially when it came to arranging transport and other activities. I highly recommend choosing Awon Hotel if you are visiting Mirissa"

"The hotel staff were all amazing! Shy, who checked us in, was professional and shout-out to the housekeeping staff who did a suprise set up, decorating our bed and gifted us a cake for our 25-year wedding anniversary. Restaurant staff were friendly and helpful."

Outpost Weligama Beachfront ★★★

📍 wadana watta, Weligama

"Just beside a very cool beach. Budget Hotel. Have basic facilities. A neat and clean pool. Except drinking water, soaps and shampoo nothing is complementary in the room. It's a budget option and little overpriced for pool facing rooms with minimum facilities."

"This is a very cozy spot that makes you feel like you're living in solitude with nature, right among the rocks. Yes, there's a road nearby, but it absolutely doesn't disturb your rest and relaxation. Everything is clean and tidy, and there's a kitchen, which is very convenient for longer stays. The beach is just a few minutes' walk away. If you're looking for a peaceful place with a nice atmosphere and close proximity to nature – I wholeheartedly recommend it!"

Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa Hotels in Matara

Weligama Bay Marriott Resort & Spa

"We had a fantastic stay at the Marriott and extended for two days as it was too difficult to leave the place;) the service is over the top, great amenities with a great pool and even better beach. The in-house catering offers a really good sushi place but we appreciated the little food area next to the hotel as well. All in all the best spot to relax but also do great activities such as surfing and turtle swimming. The only negative thing if I have to name one is the kids club: it is really not a nice place (and smelled). No wonder there are hardly no children there and mine didn’t want to stay there either. But we came for the pool anyways …"

Cascara Resort Weligama

"As the first person to write a review, I'll say right away: I absolutely recommend staying here! This hotel is wonderful in every way, from the service to the secluded atmosphere. The breakfasts are excellent – even with just one main menu, there's still a good selection. I was surprised by how well-stocked the room was: I'm not talking about the mini-bar and drinking water, but the bathroom, which has absolutely everything you need, including perfumed toiletries. The conditioner, shampoo, body lotion, and scrub are all fantastic quality. The room is incredibly spacious, and the shower is wonderful. It matches the photos and description 100%. I want to thank the staff for their hospitality, the manager and owner for their smiles and morning chats, and the chef for the excellent cuisine and for helping with a special personal request. It's very close to the coastline, with restaurants, beach clubs, and shops nearby. It was my first time in Sri Lanka, and I have to say, in some ways, I liked this hotel even more than the island itself. Rating: 10/10. I will definitely be back!"

We Escape Weligama Hotels in Matara

"I went to Kima Surf Camp in the off-season during September and had a fantastic experience. The surf instructors were, by and large, amazing. In particular, Chuti was always motivating me to push to a higher level and providing just the right level of encouragement and advice. The kitchen staff were also great, very attentive without being overbearing. The whole experience, from breakfast to dinner, was one of the best I’ve seen at a hostel in my time traveling (over the course of many years). Kima also advertises a learn-to-surf package, which is a 5-day course of morning sessions. I would say this is an appropriate course for those who have no experience, but if you have the ability to stand up on the board and position your feet while stationary on the sand, and you know how to turn, then this course might be unnecessary, since it would be covered in the surf guiding sessions for the one-star courses anyway. However, I did like the structure provided by the learn-to-surf courses, and it was helpful for meeting new people. So, in that respect, I think it might be worth the money for those considering it. I would say that the hostel is quite social and good for solo travelers. However, during my visit, there were a lot of German-speaking travelers (in the order of 80%), which made it a bit of a different experience compared to hostels I’ve stayed at in Europe and Asia. That said, there were many activities organized, and it was easy to meet people through yoga sessions, surfing, or the social events hosted by the camp. Dinners were typically very social, especially if you chose to sit at the larger tables. The rooms were excellent, and there were plenty of bathrooms available, so I never felt like there was an issue in terms of facilities."

"We stayed at Ayurvie Weligama for an Ayurveda retreat for the second time, and once again we are absolutely delighted. What we particularly appreciate is the very personal and individualized service. From the moment we arrived, we received an exceptionally warm welcome. The German-speaking doctor has an impressive amount of experience and outstanding expertise, which ensures that the retreat is truly beneficial and successful. We also loved the food—it is absolutely delicious. At the same time, you quickly develop a very friendly connection with the wonderful team in the kitchen. Of course, it is also extremely important to have excellent therapists. Here we were more than satisfied and looked forward every day to the approximately two hours of treatments. All in all, it was a fantastic Ayurveda retreat. We will definitely come back!"

Beach & Bliss Mirissa Hotels in Matara

Beach & Bliss Mirissa

"The photos are incredibly deceiving — what’s advertised online is not what you walk into. It felt like dealing with a dodgy salesperson: all shine and spin, very little substance. The safe didn’t work, the sliding door wouldn’t lock properly (which felt unsafe and unacceptable), the air conditioner unit dripped water next to the bed and overall maintenance was well below standard. Presentation might look glossy in pictures, but in reality it’s poorly maintained and misleadingly marketed. I wouldn’t stay here again and would strongly suggest management address the basic safety and honesty issues before promoting it the way they do."

Central Beach Inn Hotels in Matara

Central Beach Inn

"The hotel is right on the beach and was very clean. We stayed for two days, and the front desk told us there was no routine cleaning, but it wasn't important. There's a hotel dining area on the beach, and the hotel restaurant serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and is open to the public; there weren't too many tourists. It's very convenient to get to the pier for whale watching; it's about a 10-minute walk. We hired a car for an island tour, so the driver took us there in the morning, and it only took about 2 minutes. It rained heavily every afternoon during our stay, and enjoying afternoon tea in the restaurant while watching the rain on the beach and sipping drinks was very pleasant. The beach restaurant has seafood, offering a fairly international selection of food, as well as local dishes, all of which were delicious. There were many Europeans and Americans there."

"I chose this hotel in Mirissa for whale watching. It was a bit late to get to the hotel after getting off the plane from Colombo. There was only one waiter to welcome me into the room. The location of his hotel was not easy to find, but it still made me happy from the moment I walked in. Surprisingly, it feels like a deep house and compound, full of green plants, a swimming pool, the room is very tidy, the lights are dim, there is a balcony to view the outside, and the birds chirping constantly in the morning, it makes people feel that they forget time and enjoy it. I will definitely stay there more next time Stay for two days and experience this hotel."

"The location is amazing. Friendly staff. Food is delicious. Extensive breakfast! The gym is bad. And they should wash their windows of the rooms more often. Fo to the local small beach next door. There is a cool bar with swings from a coconut tree. Would recommend."

"1. Almost no hot water. 2. We went whale watching in the morning, packed our luggage in advance, and told the front desk that we needed to be back before 11 am to shower upstairs. We also asked them to keep the key safe, and that we would check out if we were late. Good grief! We arrived at the hotel a little after 10:15 am, and they had already cleaned everything and then took us upstairs, expecting us to shower in another guest's vacated room?! This is absolutely terrible!"

"I had a fantastic stay at this hotel and would highly recommend it. The property was spotless throughout, with excellent amenities and a beautiful pool that I really enjoyed. I stayed in the Sugar Suite, which was beautifully designed and incredibly spacious. It featured a luxurious Jacuzzi tub, comfortable sofas, and a dedicated wardrobe area that made the room feel even more organised and relaxing. The highlight was the stunning view from the window - overlooking Coconut Tree Hill, which made the stay feel even more special. The location is perfect - right in the heart of Mirissa and just a short, easy walk to Coconut Tree Hill. There are plenty of great food options nearby, which made everything so convenient. The housekeeping team were lovely and kept the room immaculate, and all the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. They spoke very good English, which made communication easy and stress-free. Overall, I was extremely happy with the experience and would definitely stay here again."
