The Silverton Inn
"Barman was very rude when I tried to check in"
Fox & Hounds Country Hotel
"So glad to have found the Fox and Hounds Hotel which is a dog friendly hotel and I mean dog friendly, dogs allowed with the owners into all areas including the dining room where the tables were set apart and dogs could sit by the table. Breakfast - cereals, fruit juice, yoghurts, toast and a hot buffet, bacon eggs etc. Food on the evening was delicious and good quality, bar staff great. Rooms - clean, bed comfy, good shower, hairdryer, kettle and tv. Dog mat with dog bowl and dog biscuit which was a nice touch. Grounds fabulous with a lovely dog exercising area next to the river which was so tranquil and places to sit and relax. Train station minutes away for trains to Barnstable and Exeter. All staff especially Becca on reception were extremely friendly, definitely a great find. Wonderful hotel."
The Quarrymans Rest
"Called in for a drink to The Quarryman's Arms, after doing some canvassing with friends. I was last there over 8 years ago. What a change! We were welcomed by the landlady, who had on offer a wide range of real ales, ciders and lagers. The pub had a greatly improved village pub feel, with a real buzz. Bampton has two pubs and both have their own unique feel."
Bickleigh Castle
"We were given a voucher for this lovely old castle. The tour was very interesting indeed and when you learn about it's history, including two chairs owned by Charles I, it makes it even more interesting. The afternoon tea is just a scone and a cup of tea, we believed that it would be a full afternoon tea with sandwiches etc. No. Perhaps our mistake for not checking. Nevertheless, very interesting and we were made to feel very welcome."
Hillside Bed and Breakfast
"Can only praise Sue at the Hillside-nice spacious room-very clean-big bed and a delicious breakfast as well. She goes above and beyond to make you feel welcomed on your stay. Left a piece of jewellery by mistake and Sue was kind enough to send back to us. As a bonus there is a pub just across the road and a very nice country park close by to stroll through if you feel inclined. All in all a recommended place to visit ..*****"
The Globe Inn
Anchor Inn
"Staff very friendly and helpful. Had two meals and beer here. First meal of burger was good, second meal of pork belly was really very good both with local beer. Pub is busy but everyone friendly and make an effort to fit in if not booked. Stunning location and gardens."
Bampton Townhouse
"Great marketing and a very comfortable bed but very far from luxurious! We were in the biggest room with nowhere to put our clothes. I’ m 5ft 6” and could barely reach the cost pegs which were too large for my coats; there was nowhere else to hang up clothes and the couple of tiny drawers were big enough for underwear only. Cases had to be opened on the floor. Coffee/tea but no milk were available in the kitchen downstairs (I got dressed again and went to the Spar opposite for milk). A tiny plastic box in the bathroom held the very mean selection of shampoo etc. ( only enough shampoo for one and a couple of sample type sachets of bath oil). Are 2018 magazines sufficiently old to be considered retro? That’s the reading material in the room. Perhaps the owner has not noticed the damp in the wall beside the large mirror. This is an AirB&B at best, certainly not a hotel."
The Exeter Inn
"I have visited the attractive Exeter Inn near bampton many times over very many years. It has varied in standard from owner to owner. However, since the spring of 2025 it has been operated by Michelle and Martyn who very evidently know how to run an excellent establishment. Together they have hit the mark and immediately I walked in, following a friends recommendatin that great things had happened, I felt a really warm and welcoming atmosphere. Greeted cheerfully by this relaxed but most efficient couple and their friendly staff, I sensed enthusiasm and pride. It was sunday lunch and a proper fire roared away as happy guests chatted and laughed. A full range of roasts were offered and my chicken with all the trimmings was really delicious, hot and well presented, without any delay. You can just tell when you are enjoying a good eatery and the Exeter Inn is exactly that ! Living locally, I shall be a frequent customer and I suggest that you visit soon because you will not be disappointed ! Lovely pub, restaurant and Inn."
