This property has the potential to be amazing, but it needs a few key updates. The location is fabulous, the staff is excellent, and the restaurant is great both in terms of service and food quality. The room was spacious, and the balcony was unbeatable. If you only speak English, you can get by staying here because all of the staff speak excellent English. We encountered a problem when the showerhead broke off, but the repairman came reasonably quickly to replace it, and he was very polite and not disruptive. We ordered room service, and Dom Rio, the hotel’s restaurant, delivered it quickly. I had the filet which was cooked properly to the correct temperature (medium rare). My fiancé had the alfredo pasta which she liked a lot. The breakfast had a huge selection, and everything tasted good. The only thing keeping this hotel from earning top marks is the general state of much of the decor in the rooms. The curtains look shabby and dirty from moisture, and the wood of the cabinets is warped also. It is very hard to maintain a room that is constantly exposed to salt water and ocean breeze, but the materials chosen have not stood up to age. I would recommend staying here if you are interested in staying in Barra at a nice but reasonably priced hotel, but don’t expect the finest luxury. Expect a very large, fairly clean room with a comfortable bed and an amazing view.

The hotel, despite being well located, had a water shortage problem. We were admitted to the hotel without water in the rooms and we were not warned about this at check-in. When we arrived at the rooms, we noticed the lack of water, including in the rooms of our fellow travelers. Several other guests also reported the situation. In addition to this problem, the service is rude, check-in takes a long time to complete and maintenance is poor. I was stuck in the elevator twice and I saw other people who also ended up getting stuck and at no point did the hotel inform us that the elevator was faulty, nor did it even indicate it with a sign. Of all the problems, the lack of water was the worst of them as it is basic for personal hygiene and affects the experience and our comfort. When we tried to talk to the manager we were approached by another gentleman, who introduced himself as a guest but in fact we realized that he was one of those responsible for the hotel (perhaps the owner or a partner). This was because he was trying to justify that there was nothing that could be done about the lack of water and asked if we wanted them to "make water", in a mocking tone, with a total lack of respect for the guests. We had just arrived from a walk and needed to take a shower, we even went down to the pool but were stopped because the pool would only be available until 8 pm. Reasonable, the bed was put together with two singles, there was only one chair on the balcony, a low television was bad for watching in bed, a broken hairdryer had to be requested from reception, they only had a few replacement units, they kept taking them all the time, the pool closed very early, and we ran out of hot water one day and had to take a cold shower. We stayed as a group of 3 couples on different floors of the hotel and the 3 days we were there, there was no water in any of the rooms. The hotel is well equipped. The service from the cleaning staff should be better. Towels were taken away but not replaced 1:1 and we then had too few towels. This happened every 3 days we were there. Refrigerator didn't work. Furnishings were a little outdated in the rooms and the mattress was a little worn out. However, the rest of the hotel was great. It's just a shame that the pool is at the back of the hotel and so the hours of sunshine are fewer because the sun is covered by the building.

A little disappointed.
