Hostel California

Owner is a nice guy who speaks English pretty well, even a little bit of German. Place is conveniently located next to Hongshan Station, there is also a food street nearby, but otherwise nothing interesting around. Be proactive in contacting the accommodation beforehand, otherwise you won't be able to find and enter the place. He should answer quickly and you should be able to arrange everything with him. I just got in by coincidence. He might offer you an upgrade to a better place. Take it. Otherwise you will hang with a bunch of gamers in between their food leftovers (see picture). Only boys where I stayed. After taking the upgrade on the second day, I met a bunch of nice guys in the better apartment. Be aware there are no hostel vibes, these are apartments.

Most disgusting place I’ve ever stayed. I don’t understand how it’s possible for a place to be this filthy. It literally looks like only cockroaches live there. It makes me sad to think that people can’t see how dirty this is and think it’s normal. People spit in the hallways and in the dorms. People piss and **** with the door open. Everyone just doesn’t care. It makes me wish China was more like Japan. I couldn’t sleep for more than 2 hours because of the noise and filth, as well as a very hard and tiny bed. I left in the early morning and never looked back!! Unless you have no basic living standard and don’t mind eating your own feces, stay away!!

Very good location close to the train station, easy to access, foreigner friendly as the owner speaks sufficient English and you can wash your clothes for free!

Great place for a short stay and catch trains at Shenzhen north metro station.
