The bird island and bird population of Yamdrok Lake are rare in the country

Yamdrok Lake, located next to the 307 provincial road of Gongga County, Shannan City, Tibet Autonomous Region, is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, along with Namtso and Mapam Yumco. It is situated between 90.08-91.45 degrees east longitude and 28.27-29.12 degrees north latitude. The lake covers an area of 638 square kilometers. Yamdrok Lake is the largest enclosed inland lake in the southern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, with a lake surface altitude of 4441 meters, an average depth of about 23.6 meters, a water storage capacity of about 16 cubic kilometers, a shoreline of 250 kilometers, a watershed area of 6100 square kilometers, and a water storage capacity of about 160 billion cubic meters. According to observations and calculations by local forestry departments, the bird island and bird population of Yamdrok Lake are rare in the country. Various birds appear and inhabit these islands. In addition to birds, the species of wildlife inhabiting the Yamdrok Lake basin are extremely rich, including snow leopards, argali, foxes, otters, wild donkeys, bharals, blue sheep, and deer, which are national first and second class protected animals. Yamdrok Lake is a unique natural scenic area that combines plateau lakes, snow-capped mountains, islands, pastures, hot springs, wild animals and plants, temples, and other landscapes. It is one of the three holy lakes in Tibet, along with Namtso and Mapam Yumco. There are also perennially unmelting snow-capped mountains and peaks around it, the highest of which reaches an altitude of over 7000 meters. The lake, snow peaks, and blue sky merge into one.
