#Enoshima Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
An island escape just off of Tokyo 🇯🇵
Enoshima (江の島) is a pleasantly touristy island just off the coast but connected by bridge with the mainland.
Attractions I visited:
Love Bell
Southern Coast
Iwaya Caves
Sea Candle
Enoshima Shrine
Getting there:
From Tokyo
Take the JR Tokaido Line from Tokyo Station or the JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line from Shinjuku Station to Fujisawa Station (45-50 minutes, 990 yen) and transfer to either the Enoden (10 minutes, 220 yen) or Odakyu Railway (7 minutes, 160 yen) for Enoshima. Alternatively, get off at Ofuna (40-45 minutes, 820 yen) and transfer to the Shonan Monorail for an exciting ride to Enoshima (15 minutes, 320 yen, stand or sit at the front of the car for interesting views).
From Kamakura
The one way trip between Kamakura and Enoshima by Enoden train takes 25 minutes and costs 260 yen. There are trains about every ten minutes.

Iwaya cave
Two touristy and easily walkable caves can be found in the cliffs along Enoshima's southern coast. The first cave contains some Buddhist statues, while the second cave is dedicated to the legendary dragon that used to terrorize the area.Carved by aeons of tidal erosion, the Iwaya Caves consist of two caves which are 152 meters and 56 meters deep respectively. These caves have long been the subject of religious faith, and during the Edo Period, many worshippers gathered here as a sacred site of the Benzaiten faith. Today, the caves are a popular tourist spot. From the exhibits on display here, visitors can get a sense of how Enoshima’s history and culture have developed over the centuries.

Are Enoshima & Fujisawa Worth a Visit? (Jan 2024)
As part of our itinerary for our Japan 2024 trip, we wanted to explore nearby cities to Tokyo and decided to visit Enoshima and Fujisawa. These places are not very far away from Tokyo and you could get there by buying the day pass.
The day pass is useful as it allows unlimited travel within the designated area. We arrived at Enoshima first to visit the Enoshima Aquarium. The aquarium itself is quite huge but some of the enclosures were closed due to renovation (what a pity). Nonetheless, it was still worth the visit. We also managed to spot Mt. Fuji from Enoshima Aquarium, which was an awesome opportunity thanks for the fabulous weather on that day!
We then headed to the nearby island (Enoshima Island) which was a walking distance from Enoshima Aquarium. The iconic structure on this island is the Enoshima Sea Candle. We had to climb steps to get to the viewpoint. There is also a small entrance fee to enter the sea candle park but we didn’t proceed as it was daytime when we visited. It’ll be prettier at night in our opinion.
We didn’t get to visit Fujisawa in the end but there are plenty of temples in Fujisawa for those who are interested in visiting. Enoshima alone could cover a full day programme so plan your trip wisely (: #enoshima2024 #japan2024
Enoshima: A Poetic Day in the Sea Breeze
Enoshima
is an island of romance and leisure
Starting from the train station
Walking through the alleys
Crossing a bridge
A commercial pedestrian street comes into view
Enoshima pudding is sweet in the mouth
Dango, ice cream with bean paste mochi
Shrimp crackers, small silverfish ice cream
Each bite is the taste of the island
I choose to climb on foot
Passing through the shrine halfway up the mountain
Until the sky garden at the summit
The air here
Carries the salty taste of the sea
The lighthouse stands quietly in the distance
But I only stroll in the garden
The French bread from the coffee shop
Paired with ice cream
In view is the scenery of Kamakura
Under the blue sky and white clouds
Everything seems particularly comfortable
I had planned to dine at Uomitei
But the snacks were enough to comfort my stomach
I heard the view there is beautiful
Maybe I'll come next time
Is it worth going to Enoshima?
That depends on whether you like
Feeling the passage of time next to ancient shrines
Or looking out at the boundless sea from the mountain top
For me
It's all worth it
Every step is full of discovery and emotion
In Enoshima
I found a sense of serene contentment
On a cloudy day in Kamakura, Mount Fuji is not visible, but it's still worth a visit
The sea, the tram, and the temples are the impressions Kamakura left on me.
During my three days in Tokyo, I picked the middle day to visit the nearby Kamakura, hoping to catch a glimpse of the famous Mount Fuji.
Unfortunately, luck was not on my side, and the cloudy weather meant that Mount Fuji would probably be obscured by clouds. However, since I had already planned this, I might as well go on a cloudy day to see what unique experiences might await.
🚃Transportation: At Shinjuku Station, I bought a one-day pass for the Shinjuku to Fujisawa Station round trip, which also includes the Kamakura seaside tram. The price is only 1640 yen, which is very economical.
It takes about an hour to reach Fujisawa Station, and after getting off and transferring, I arrived at Enoshima.
Enoshima: A lively seaside island, where Hirokazu Koreeda's 'Our Little Sister' was filmed. There is a small temple at the top of the hill with a lot of incense burning, offering a panoramic view of the entire island and the bridge.
Then I returned to the tram station and took the tram to Hase-dera, which was the stop I was most looking forward to on this trip.
Hase-dera: The entrance ticket 🎫 is probably 300 yen, which is very cheap. The small Buddha statues inside the temple are very cute, as if entering a world of deities.
I also happened to encounter the maple leaves turning red, adding even more Zen to the atmosphere.
Afterward, I went to the landmark of Kamakura—the Great Buddha of Kamakura.
🎫The worship fee is 200 yen.
The huge Buddha statue overlooks the visitors, creating a strong visual impact.
The ginkgo forest behind the courtyard is also very picturesque.
After coming out, I slowly strolled through the small town, walking on the tram tracks, walking by the sea, until I reached Shichirigahama, where I saw the sunset's Tyndall effect. Although I couldn't see Mount Fuji on a cloudy day, I saw people fishing by the sea and sat quietly for a long time.
Finally, I went to the famous Kamakura High School Mae, took some photos of the green tram 'racing' by the sea, and then I also took the tram back to Tokyo.
From the leisurely seaside town back to the bustling, fast-paced Tokyo.
If you have a sea in your heart, then Enoshima must be in your memories
I'm not a fan of Slam Dunk, but I would definitely know about Kamakura High School.
But do you know about the tranquil Enoshima?
The beach, the sunset, the tram,
All the romantic elements are concentrated together.
And there's the beautiful Mount Fuji,
Walking by Lake Kawaguchi with your beloved, how wonderful it is.
Chill Spots Near Tokyo - Kamakura & Enoshima
A day trip to Kamakura and Enoshima can be arranged when visiting Tokyo.
First, head to Kamakura Koukoumae Station to snap a photo. This spot is a popular photo location and is one of the scenes from the anime 'Slam Dunk' 🥰. The area is beautiful with a vast ocean that connects to the blue sky, perfect for taking pictures 📸. After taking photos, you can visit Komachi-dori Shopping Street to buy some souvenirs. There are many unique products! Finally, take a stroll to Enoshima where there are plenty of shops and snacks 🤩. Don't forget to visit the Enoshima Shrine️, specifically the Hetsumiya ⛩, to pay your respects.
📍 18-10 Oimachi, Kamakura City
The Shonan coast is a place of either zero or countless visits
Because a favorite drama was filmed here, I came to Enoshima in Kamakura City, Kanagawa Prefecture.
Here lies the incredibly beautiful front of Kamakura High School, as well as Enoshima and Koshigoe Beach, which make up the so-called Shonan coast.
This area is a popular filming location for many Japanese dramas, including ones I love like 'If It's You, Maybe We Can Fall in Love' and 'Honey Lemon Soda'.
When I visited, it was a cloudy day, so the weather wasn't particularly good, but it didn't affect my mood at all.
Because it was cloudy, there were fewer people, and the experience was great. The scenes from the TV dramas appeared before my eyes in reality.
It's hard to describe the feeling in just a few words; you have to be there to understand the emotion.
Walking from the station towards the small island of Enoshima, the sea breeze blew in gusts. Since it was winter, it was quite cold, but I was dressed warmly, so it didn't bother me much.
I saw the lighthouse where Ryuuji and Sora talked all night, and I went to the 'Miharashi Tei' to eat the whitebait rice that Ryuuji made for Sora. Since it was the off-season for fishing, only cooked whitebait rice was available, which made me even more determined to come back again in the summer.
There's also a fireworks festival in Enoshima during the summer, so I'm looking forward to seeing what Enoshima looks like in the summer.
The background of the slam dunk, Kamakura

Kamakura, known as the background of the cartoon slam dunk, is also the filming location for the movie . I hope you feel this place!
At Enoshima! Captured the sunset of a lifetime!
Woke up at five-thirty in the morning, headed straight to Enoshima after getting off the plane!
This time I deliberately stayed in Fujisawa for two days, in order to fully enjoy Kamakura
After getting off at Enoshima on the Odakyu Line, crossing the road towards the seaside is the beach
Super lucky! It was cloudy when I landed,
Didn't expect to see the sunset of a lifetime at Enoshima!
Also captured the faintly visible Mount Fuji, it's perfect, sob!
The JR is the closest to Enoshima
Is it worth going to Enoshima, Japan?
Enoshima is a quiet and romantic island, full of a leisurely atmosphere. The journey to the island is a bit far, you need to walk through the alley, cross the bridge, and then cross the bustling commercial pedestrian street to reach the torii of Enoshima Shrine. For those tourists who are a bit hungry, there are various delicacies on the commercial pedestrian street for tasting, such as Enoshima pudding, dumplings, ice cream bean paste glutinous rice cakes, prawn cakes and small silver fish ice cream, etc.
There are two choices for going up the mountain, one is to pay for the elevator, and the other is to walk leisurely. Because I ate something, I chose to walk. Halfway up the mountain, tourists will find a shrine, and at the top of the mountain is a sky garden and a lighthouse. If you want to visit the lighthouse, you need to buy a ticket, but I didn't plan to go in, just strolling in the sky garden.
In the sky garden, there is a cafe called Lun Cafe, which is famous for French bread. The French bread here is tender and fragrant, and it is even more delicious with ice cream. Sitting in the cafe, overlooking the beautiful scenery of Kamakura, the blue sky and white clouds make people feel extremely comfortable.
I originally planned to have lunch at the Uomizuka restaurant in Enoshima, but because I tried various snacks along the way, I didn't feel hungry and finally cancelled the plan. According to online feedback, the scenery of this restaurant is very charming and worth a try.
Whether it is worth it is very subjective, because the process of going up the mountain mainly passes through the shrine, and the main thing on the mountain is to appreciate the beautiful scenery of the whole Kamakura and the sky garden, without other special attractions. Personally, I like it very much because I enjoy every scenery and the leisurely feeling.
Ticket information: The ticket for the observation lighthouse is 500 yen; the pass is 1,000 yen, including the elevator, cave, lighthouse and other projects.
Enoshima Island
Loved it! A must see island in Japan, only 2h from Tokyo city! Enoshima is a place that took my breath away, beautiful place and surroundings.
Everything about this island is just so cool and gorgeous.
You can enjoy the hawks flying right above you
I only went there for a day trip from tokyo! I will definitely return sooner or later.
You can get to Kamakura station, then you take the train to get Enoshima station. Walk down the bridge and you’ll be at the Island!
You’ll see lots of temples, shops, restaurants.. and amazing sunset!
PS. If you are lucky, this is a good spot to see Mount Fuji!
In 2024 I wish to visit this place again.

You need relaxing time? This is one of the "must"place to in Enoshima. Tokyo
Olympic yatch race was held in 1964 and 2020. It's not that big, but you can have a nice walk and have a look. You can enjoy spectacular view.
It is usually a landmark when looking at the coast from Katase Higashihama and Koshigoe Coast.
The appearance of standing white and crisp is impressive. If you actually visit
It's quite far away, but I recommend it because you can see far away from the outer sea.
And as it is, please go to the rocky place. Enoshima, a part with less sense of sightseeing spots
Please enjoy
In 2024 I wish to visit this place again.
BEST TRIP TO JAPAN
I was having fun in Enoshima since I hadn’t gone there for a while! Very lovely trip. I would recommend if you’re going to Japan. Lately there are many tourists but you can still enjoy the whole island!!
Great views
Enjoyed enoshima very much. Great views and lovely weather in Nov.
Do note it is very crowded up the slope with many shops on both sides of the street (typical jap style)
A lot of walking and climbing if you wish to go to the cave and shrines. View is worth every step and effort!
Food is kind of overpriced and taste so so only. Suggest to set aside at least 4 hours if you wish to enjoy the place fully

An island where you get to view Mt Fuji if you are lucky,. Take a walk and a beer at 1 of the restaurants to enjoy the view. Also, the beach is where the local will come for a walk and surf.

Enoshima is a small island off the Shōnan coast of Japan’s Kanagawa Prefecture. It’s known for the Enoshima Shrine, with statues honoring Benzaiten, the Buddhist goddess. It's also home to the Enospa hot springs and the 19th-century, English-style Samuel Cocking Garden with its Sea Candle lighthouse. The Iwaya Caves feature tidal pools and Buddhist statues. Popular mainland beaches overlook the island.
The beautiful island just outside Tokyo
江ノ島 - Enoshima
About an hour and a half outside the buzz of Tokyo is Enoshima. A place that doesn’t really feel like it exists. In the morning you’re on a packed train, listening to the announcements, watching people go to work. And by lunchtime you’re climbing up the stairs to a temple at the top of an island, with a view of Mount Fuji.
Incredible food vendors all over the island, sushi, oysters, Hawaiian food, Filipino food. Definitely won’t be hungry.
On the back of the island are some caves you can take a tour in, or a rock beach to sit and enjoy the view. Take photos and watch the sunset. #mountainview #island #summervacation #beaches
Enoshima Sunset x Mt. Fuji
Always good to drop by Enoshima during evening to witness the classic sunset moment. If you are lucky enough, you a clear Mountain Fuji will show up in your photo background ! Don't forget to check out the sunset time and at least 30 minutes to arrive the top (Sea Candle) to secure a place. Before leaving the island, it's good to walk around to experience night illumination #enoshima #mtfuji
On Enoshima, facing the sea, the spring is warm and the flowers are blooming!
Get off at Kamakura Station and walk along the picturesque Japanese streets. Keep going straight until you reach a bridge that connects to an island in the sea, which is Enoshima. The scenery along the way is beautiful, with blue sky, white clouds, and deep blue sea. On the island, you can also stroll through the streets and alleys, occasionally entering a hidden residential alleyway. Cross the "stairway of pure love" from a manga and you will see the sea. Turning your head, you will find clusters of hydrangea flowers facing the sea, blooming brightly.
🚉Transportation guide:
From Tokyo city center, take a train to Kamakura, then get off and walk about 1.5-2 kilometers.
⏳Playtime:
half a day
🌟Highlight features:
Kamakura streets, seaside, islands, local cuisine, flower viewing, neighborhoods from manga.
🍽️Food and beverage recommendations:
The shaved ice at the tea house in the last two pictures is really delicious! Highly recommended! And the decoration is very typical Japanese style, fresh and clean.
Beautiful island

Enoshima is a very beautiful sand island. According to the data, the formation of the island can be traced back to the 13th anniversary of the Imperial Tomorrow. But every time I wait until the ebb tide, there will be a sand mouth leading to the island. Until one was the Great Kanto Earthquake, Enoshima was all raised and connected to the land.
Today, it is one of the famous attractions in Kamakura and is a designated historical site in Kanagawa Prefecture. On the island, there are many shrines of different sizes. The most eye-catching shrine on the island belongs to the Jiangshima Shrine, and it is one of the three major Japanese gods. In the shrine, the goddess of music and entertainment is enshrined, and it is also one of the seven blessing gods in Japanese mythology. These gods are all eloquent.
As a tourist island, there are many tourist shops and Japanese restaurants on Enoshima, but there are also some small shops that are hidden, often between the shops and the woods. If you have enough time, look for these small shops, which are very refined and tasteful.
Walking along the coastline of the island is a comfortable and cozy choice. It is best to buy a matcha ice cream and eat while walking. At this moment, in addition to the wind, there is peace around.
Jiangzhidao is not big. The whole journey relies on hiking. It passes through the bronze bird house on the island's gateway. It runs along the path and passes through the lively market filled with souvenir shops. It reaches the Jiangdao Shrine. Enter the shrine and continue to the top of the island along the stone steps, not only to see the Izu Oshima, Mount Fuji, but also to see downtown Tokyo.
There are many attractions on the island. There are many relics about the dragon, such as the Dragon Palace, the Dragon Cave, etc. This is because the Enoshima had a legend about the dragon in the early years. It has also been found that the remains of the Jomon period have proved that humans have lived on Enoshima 7,000 years ago. Coupled with such a dragon legend, Enoshima became one of the most important cultural monuments in Kamakura. However, these monuments do not seem to attract much attention to tourists, and they are usually attracted by the beauty of the place.
At the same time, it is also the original location of many Japanese anime. For example, "The Slam Dunk" has a close-up of the Enoshima vista, and the original Japanese game "Autumn Memories" is the original of Lulu Island. The location is here. Including "aggression! The story of the squid, the "Knight", "The Melody of the Fairy", and "Ping Pong" also happened here.
[Tourist information]
1, take a photo near the station of "Jiangzhidian Kamakura University", remember to pay attention to safety, do not eat while walking, not to be in the tram When I came, I was in danger of going to a scene.
2, free access to Enoshima.
3, there are many trams and bus routes to Enoshima. It is recommended to take JR (Tokyo Station - Kamakura - Enoshima), Yokosuka Line / about 55 minutes, Enoshima / about 25 minutes.
4, consumption on the island is not cheap. Along the coastline, there are many Japanese restaurants and many snack bars.
5, souvenir shops suggest to take a look at it, because the price is relatively high, things do not seem to have local characteristics.
6, Kamakura Enoshima, it is enough to arrange a day trip, including a photo shoot to the "Slam Dunk".
