🇱🇰 Kite Flying 🪁 in Galle Face Green, Colombo
Galle Face Green is a 500 m promenade in the heart of Colombo, between Galle Road and the Indian Ocean. It was initially laid out in 1859 by Sir Henry Ward, Governor of British Ceylon. The stretch of land was used for horse racing and golf in the 19th century. Being the largest open space in Colombo, this is a popular destination for locals and tourists to spend their leisure time while enjoying the sea breeze from the Indian Ocean.
We spent a leisure afternoon there after visiting One Galle Face Mall which is just opposite to the park. There were a lot of food vendors selling cooked crabs and prawns along the promenade. Clean public washrooms are available too. The kids had a fun time flying a kite and blowing bubbles. The view of the Sri Lankan flag flying high in the background is spectacular. We also got the opportunity to witness flag lowering ceremony at 6 pm.
