#Inner Mongolia Museum Travel Recommendations for 2024 (Updated in May)
"Mongolian Museum" is the most extensive comprehensive collection of cultural relics collection, research and exhibition in the inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. The gold crown of the Xiongnu King, which was unearthed in Ordos City, is exquisite and magnificent. It is the only gold crown decorated by the Huns in China. This set of gold crowns is made by casting, beating, embossing, spinning, inlaying, etc., and the eagle of the wings is tightly connected to the hemisphere. The fore ring is made up of three semi-circular gold bars and rivets. The horizontal part of the tiger, the horizontal disc sheep and the lying horse, etc., the middle part is the rope pattern, which shows the profound culture of the Huns. This is also the treasure of the museum of the Inner Mongolia Museum.
The Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Museum has four basic exhibitions: “Inner Mongolia Paleontology Exhibition”, “Inner Mongolia Historical Relics Exhibition”, “Inner Mongolia Revolutionary Cultural Relics Exhibition”, and “Inner Mongolian National Cultural Relics Exhibition”. It shows the evolution of Inner Mongolia's biological evolution and the changes of Gobi, and shows the history of eight ethnic groups including Xiongnu, Donghu, Xianbei, Turkic, Qidan, Dangxiang and Mongolia. It shows the people of Inner Mongolia from the May Fourth Movement to the founding of New China. The history of revolutionary struggles; the unique folk culture created by the Mongolian, Oroqen, Ewenki, and Daur people. The exhibition hall building of the Inner Mongolia Museum has a unique shape and a white building with ethnic characteristics. The white horse of the volley Mercedes-Benz, which is loved by the Mongolian people, symbolizes the auspiciousness and soaring of Inner Mongolia. The building has become one of the landmark buildings of the autonomous region since its completion.
A Day in the Museum
The Inner Mongolia Museum has got to be one of the best museums I've been to. There's just a lot of interesting things to see and history to explore! The free entrance is just a cherry on top, but honestly, with the vast displays and well furated artifacts, I'd be willing to pay just to get inside. Truly, it's a must visit museum in China as I personally lost track of time because of the rich collection they have. Moreover, i hope people would take time to read the captions in order to fully appreciate the history and culture of inner mongolia!#museum #history #culture #china

Grassland Culture Tour (Hohhot)
Inner Mongolia is not only famous for its grasslands but also has a long history similar to the Central Plains region. It was once home to a series of ethnic minorities such as the Xiongnu, Xianbei, Khitan, Jurchen, and Manchu. The history of grassland culture is also a history of struggle and integration between the Han nationality and various ethnic groups in the grassland area, a history of ethnic fusion where you are in me and I am in you.
The museum is quite large, with exhibition halls spread across the second to fourth floors. It is recommended to start from the fourth floor and work your way down. The three halls on the fourth floor introduce the history of this land from the Paleolithic Age to the Liao and Song periods in chronological order. Several treasures of the museum are also concentrated on this floor. Unfortunately, I was unable to see the 'Charm of Integration' exhibition hall on the third floor; at 4:40 p.m., I found the door tightly closed, not sure why. After reading the introduction of this museum, it seems that the focus is not on introducing the Mongol and Yuan periods. As the largest museum in the autonomous region, the absence of an exhibition hall dedicated to the Mongol and Yuan periods is somewhat puzzling. But after some thought, it becomes clear. If they were to bring all the artifacts from the Mongol and Yuan periods here, what would the city museum do? The feelings of brotherly units must be considered. The above is purely personal speculation
Among the museum's collections, the more famous ones include, in picture 2, the Xiongnu crown, which I have seen replicas of at the Ordos Bronze Ware Museum, and it has quite a reputation; in picture 3, the Liao dynasty painted wooden coffin, which was used as a prototype for the coffin in the 'Ghost Blows Out the Light' movie, is very exquisitely designed and decorated. Although the identity of the tomb owner is not clear, they were definitely either rich or noble; in picture 4, the gold mask comes from the famous tomb of Princess Chen's son-in-law, and Princess Chen was the granddaughter of the war goddess Xiao Yanyan.
I will visit again if I have the chance, after all, I didn't get to see the Yuan dynasty 'Jun kiln 'Xiao Song self-made' incense burner' or the gemstone-studded gold crown decoration this time

‼️Things to know before going to the Inner Mongolia Museum
1️⃣The Inner Mongolia Museum is located in the center of Hohhot, the capital of the autonomous region. It is the only comprehensive museum at the autonomous region level in the region and the earliest museum established in the national minority areas.

5️⃣The museum is located at No. 27, Xinhua East Street, Xincheng District, Hohhot, Inner Mongolia. You can take buses No. 2, 3, 5, 27, 53, etc., get off at the 'Museum' station, and walk to it.

Have you ever seen a fossil of a hatched dinosaur egg?
The Inner Mongolia Museum combines strong modern elements, regional representations and ethnic characteristics. It is a 'encyclopedia' that condenses the ecological changes and the development of grassland civilization in northern China over billions of years. It is also a symbol of the economic and social development level and civilization level of the autonomous region.
In terms of resource advantages such as paleontological fossils, extant organisms, historical relics, and ethnic relics, the Inner Mongolia Museum can be said to be surprisingly and even unbelievably!
⚠️
2nd floor: The four basic displays of 'Ancient World', 'Plateau Magnificence', 'Underground Treasure', and 'Flying Divine Boat' introduce the birthplace of grassland culture, where the scenery blends and comes to life!
3rd floor: The four basic displays of 'Grassland Heroism', 'Grassland Pride', 'Grassland Style', 'Grassland Beacon' show the vertical development line of grassland culture from ancient to modern times in a simple, vivid, and easy-to-understand way!
4th floor: The six special displays of 'Grassland Sunrise', 'Wind and Cloud Knight', 'Grassland Clothing', 'Sky Melody', 'Grassland Chapter', 'Ancient Road Treasures' present the six highlights of grassland culture in a focused way, fresh and solemn, elegant and popular!
⚠️
Inner Mongolia was a paradise for reptiles such as dinosaurs during the Mesozoic era. In the Inner Mongolia Museum, you can see all the unprecedented evidence of the existence of dinosaurs.
Those real traces, whether footprints or eggshells, whether small parrot-beaked dinosaurs or the largest dinosaur fossil in Asia: Chagan Nor Dragon, my god, it is 26 meters long, 9 meters high, and can reach 3 meters high when it raises its head. It is herbivorous, gregarious, and moves quickly. The museum had to use a three-story hollow design to place it. Imagine, on the grasslands of Xilingol in Inner Mongolia, such huge creatures running and gathering in groups, what a spectacular scene it would be!
The discovery of these bone fossils, and the experts piecing them together, once again prove that they really came to this world. The uncontrollability and unpredictability of nature did not give these huge creatures a chance to advance, and we humans should always be filled with awe!
Must Visit Museum in Hohhot! 🇨🇳
