This is the kurobe dam, one small part of the Kurobe Tateyama Alpine route. It is the first station if you are starting from Nagano side. You can take the bus from shinano omachi station to the Ogizawa station and from there, you have to take a tunnel bus to the dam. This Alpine route is only open during certain periods of the year, they will only start to release the water from the dam in around June. Unfortunately, I went a little too early 🥲 Nevertheless, it was still beautiful 😍
KUROBE DAM ALPINE ROUTE JAPAN
it was constructed between 1956 and 1963. it makes your ayes blow to see the view up there.
for me it was wonderful experience cause I never seen anything like that. but there’s a thing to get up there, you have to take your steps up to 200 stairs but once you got there it will be worthies.
to get there from tokyo you have to take the train to nagano and from nagano get the bus to ogizawa station then you will get your alpine route ticket. the prices for round trip all the way to murodo station is ¥9000 and bus from ogizawa from nagano return about ¥4800
I will recommend you to continue to the other side.

The Kurobe Dam On The Kurobe River
Japan has many picture perfect spots located on the North and south island making this one of the instaworthy photo trip destinations for couples and families! One place that you have to visit especially if you have the car is to head to the Kurobe Dam located at Ashikuraji, Tateyama, Nakaniikawa District, Toyama 930-1406.
Although this isn't the biggest dam in Japan, but this place promises an amazing view from the 186m dam overlooking the beautiful lake where you have to climb a long flight of stairs. There is also a memorial to remember the 100 over people who lost their life while building the dam.
It is just amazing how in the 1900s such a magnificent dam is being built without the use of our modern machineries.

Kurobe Dam
#thingstodo This was my first stop of Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route, Kurobe Dam. It took around 15 minutes from Ogizawa Station. The view here amazing and the wind is really strong, this dam is 186 meters high. This is such a huge and tall water dam, and also it is a way to reach Kurobeko station.
Tallest dam in Japan at 163m. Built in 1963. Good view of the dam. Had good weather, clear sky and not too warm.
Kurobe Dam
#wheretogo Kurobe Dam in Japan offers an enchanting glimpse into the country's captivating natural landscapes. The surroundings are a testament to the sheer beauty that Japan's scenery can provide.
However, it's important to be aware that reaching the observatory involves a physically demanding climb. With roughly 260 to 280 steps to ascend and descend, it's an endeavor that demands stamina and may not be suitable for those who are not in good physical shape. The views from the observatory are undoubtedly worth the effort, but it's essential to come prepared.
A key point to remember is that Kurobe Dam is only open for discharges starting late in June, a moment when nature's grandeur reaches its peak. Witnessing the release of water from the dam adds a unique and thrilling dimension to the experience. To fully explore and savor the surroundings, it's advisable to allocate at least an hour.
For those seeking a more relaxed approach to taking in the scenery, there's the option of a 30-minute scenic cruise, available for an additional charge. This provides an opportunity to appreciate the beauty without the physical exertion of climbing.
In conclusion, Kurobe Dam is a destination where nature's beauty shines brilliantly, although it requires a certain level of physical fitness to fully enjoy the observatory climb. Timing your visit to coincide with the dam's discharge enhances the experience, and the scenic cruise offers an alternative way to bask in the surroundings. It's a location that promises to leave an enduring impression on anyone who values Japan's magnificent natural landscapes.
