Qianmen Street, aka Qian Men Da Jie 前门大街 in Chinese, is an 845-meter long street running south from Zhengyangmen Tower on the southern edge of Tiananmen Square, along the Beijing central axis. It is one of the last remnants of the commercial centres of the old Beijing. Qianmen Street was initially formed in Ming and Qing Dynasties (1368-1911). By the time of Emperor Jiajing, the 12th Ming Dynasty (1368-1644) emperor, the street was dotted with guild halls built by different localities, providing houses to citizens from other parts of China intending to take the imperial exams. Qianmen Street became even more prosperous in the early years of the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) with the development of activities such as lantern fairs, theatres and tea houses.
Best Beijing Roast Duck🦆🦆🦆
四季民福烤鸭店(故宫店) located at Qianmen street.
Address: (北京)南池子大街11号
It is the best roast duck I ever tried in my life.
Place is a little bit overcrowded and you need to take a ticket. If you want to have lunch there- take ticket in the morning. If you want to have dinner- take ticket at lunch time.
Because of Chinese new year many people traveled to Beijing and this place is very famous for its outstanding roast duck, we waited six hours.

Exploring hutong area in Beijing🏮🏮🏮
Right next to the Qianmen street you can find huge hutong area with tones of small shops with souvenirs , restaurants and tiny cars running back and forward.
Extremely quiet and nice area for slow walks.
We have spent there more then 2 hours just discovering more and more interesting doors and corridors. Even found few hostels, if you want to experience hutong life there.

Beijing Cai For Foodies 🤪🤪🤪
Address: (北京)铁树斜街永乐开元超市斜对面
Right after Qianmen street in Beijing, in the middle of Dawailangying hutong, this small restaurant is hidden between tiny houses and extra small cars.
The owner of the restaurant cooked food by himself. All dishes that we tried are super fresh and tasty.
I extremely recommend you to order 糖醋里脊.
Interior keeps all memories of its owners: 30 years old baijiu, small figurines and even old cassette player.

Best Beijing Hot Pot 🥵
This spot is HOT!!!!
Best Beijing hot pot I ever tried.
Traditional Beijing style soup with super fresh meat and vegetables. And their peanut souse with hundreds of ingredients. My favorite is sesame oil with garlic😅😅
Right food on the right time. It was almost -10 degree outside.
And interior is super nice with great view and fashionable furniture.
And one more: it got Michelin star ⭐️

The Heart of Beijing
When visiting Beijing, this is one of the places you need to be. It is located at the central axis of Beijing City, Qianmen Street is a famous pedestrian street for shopping and sightseeing, running from the Archery Tower of Qianmen in the north to the turning of Tiantan Park in the south. It is 840 meters (about 919 yards) in length and 21 meters (about 23 yards) in width. It is composed with buildings whose styles resemble the late Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911).

Qianmen Street has history of more than 570 years. It was called Zhengyangmen Street during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, and finally got the present name in 1965. During the Qing Dynasty, there were many specialized outlets on either side of it, such as a meat market, cloth market and jewelry market. And there were also many craftsman workshops, warehouses and theatres in the Hutongs nearby. Now Qianmen Street becomes an important night life place for locals.
After more than one year's renovation, it was reopened on August 7th before the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Qianmen Street is a symbol of genuine local culture. It has many of China's time-honored names. Visitors can enjoy a traditional Chinese way of life. Moreover, it has many international brands, such as H&M, Haagen-Dazs, Sephora, ZARA, Qggle, COSTS CAFÉ, and SK Jewelry. The most famous of China own names are as follows: Quanjude, Yitiaolong, and Duyichu, and Changchuntang.
Various foods in Beijing Qianmen Street attracts lots of visitors. With roast duck taking the leading role, Quanjude has formed its regional cuisine with the feast of whole duck and more than 400 special dishes. It is enjoyed by people all over the world. Yitiaolong restaurant (original name was Yitiaolong mutton restaurant) is an authentic Muslim restaurant. It was first open to the public in 1785. The representative dishes are Golden Fried Prawns, Braised Ox Tail in Brown Sauce, fried crisp chicken, and so on.
Duyichu, with history of 250 years, was evolved from a tavern. It is said that the name was granted by Emperor Qianlong (1711-1799) of the Qing Dynasty. Now this restaurant mainly offers baked wheat cake, fried dishes and roast dark. Changchuntang is a drugstore which has a history of more than 200 years. Qianmen Street is the soul of old Beijing
Qianmen Street is a real landmark of Beijing. It is located near Tiananmen Square. Here you will feel the atmosphere of old Beijing. It is better to go there during the day and then wait for the sunset. During the day, and in the evening, and in winter, and in summer - this street is beautiful at any time of the year! If there is some big event in Beijing, then there you can always see new things made especially for this event. For example, there was the Panda of the Olympic Games. Every time you come you find something new. In summer you can see multi-colored umbrellas overhead (on one of the small crossing streets), in winter - the red lanterns of the Chinese New Year.

The beauty of Beijing 🌃
🚶🏻 Do you like evening walks and night cities?
🌃 Qianmen is a perfect street to enjoy your dinner and take a long walk while being taken by many lights and structures.
🥘 There are Chinese and some western restaurants. You can also try street food. I’m in love with street sweets.
📍 It’s close to Tianmen square.
🖼 There are also a few museums including Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum. I’ll do another post about it.

Best duck in Beijing
There are plenty of options for Beijing duck when you're in the city, but if you ask the locals the place to be is Sijiminfu. Their main location, accredited by Michelin, lies on the beautiful QianMen Street.
Address - 前门廊房二条18
Ambiance/Facilities - This location of sijiminfu is classic Chinese, with lots of round tables with lazy Susans all around. All the wait staff is professional and courteous.
Highlights - You come to sijiminfu for the duck. It's really outstanding. The meat is juicy, not dry and the skin is crispy. All the condiments were great too. Besides the duck, there are plenty of other dishes on the menu. My favorite thing was the yogurt.
Avg. Price per Person - 150 rmb
Rating - 4.5 stars
前门大街 Qianmen street。 Another one walking street with numerous options for snacking. China has probably millions of walking streets. But this one located behind the Tiananmen square near to the subway station 前门 took a place in my photo collection because of beautiful architecture. Only in the great city of Beijing would you dare to find a bookstore that begins with 'China'
China Bookstore (Qianmen Store) is located at No. 86 Qianmen Street. This nationally famous street is truly packed with people during holidays.
The facade of the Qianmen Store is as attractive as ever, spanning two floors. The first floor features new books, discounted books, cultural and creative products, comic books, peripherals, and tourist souvenirs, while the second floor sells used books.
China Bookstore is different from other bookstores; it doesn't follow trends or fashion. In front of the store, an old lady sits in a wheelchair basking in the sun, giving off a sense of historical weight. It's very much like the Hutongs, and very Beijing.
As the Spring Festival approaches, the Qianmen shopping district in Beijing is bustling
As the Spring Festival approaches, a festive atmosphere pervades all the major shopping districts across the city. Tour groups, along with local residents doing their pre-festival shopping, have made the shopping districts extremely lively.
In the Qianmen shopping district, beneath Zhengyang Gate, along Xianyukou Street, and on the Qianmen pedestrian street, crowds throng around the time-honored brands and new consumer spaces. Many famous snack shops have long queues at their doors, as the Spring Festival atmosphere has arrived early.
Qianmen Street
Qianmen Street is a very famous commercial street in Beijing. Located on the central axis of the capital, it starts from Qianmen Moon Bay in the north and extends to the Tianqiao intersection in the south, connecting with Tianqiao South Street. In the 29th year of Jiajing in the Ming Dynasty, before the outer city was built, it was the imperial road for the emperor to leave the city for the Temple of Heaven and the Altar of Mountains and Rivers. After the construction of the outer city, it became the main north-south street of the outer city. The common people commonly referred to it as Qianmen Street. The street is 845 meters long and the roadway is 20 meters wide. During the Ming, Qing, and the Republic of China, it was all called Zhengyangmen Street. In 1965, it was officially named Qianmen Street. When you come to Beijing, you must visit Qianmen Street. It is the most representative place of old Beijing. It is not an exaggeration to say that if you haven't been to Qianmen Street, you haven't been to Beijing.
First Timer Traveling Abroad China 2023
The festive atmosphere is best at the lanterns in front of the citywalk at Qianmen Liuli Factory
Exiting from Exit I of Qianmen subway station, you can take photos of Zhengyang Gate and the tram along the central axis.
Afterwards, go to the street behind the Page One bookstore in Beijing Fang, where there are lanterns of different shapes that light up at six o'clock. If you have time, you can also visit the bookstore.
The 'I Love Beijing' lantern is located in the small square next to the colorful lanterns at 2 Yangmeizhu Xiejie.
After visiting Beijing Fang, walk across to Yangmeizhu Xiejie, a very artistic hutong with several small shops to browse, including Beijing's characteristic cultural and creative space in Qiankun.
3 Liulichang East Street
Then take a turn and stroll to Liulichang East Street.
The yellow and red lanterns hanging all over the street corners are the festive atmosphere of the old Beijing hutongs. Wow 4 Liulichang West Street
At the junction of East Street and West Street, there are beautiful lanterns, and the West Street has a strong cultural atmosphere with its poetry lamp posts. After viewing, you can head back from Hepingmen subway station.
After the holidays, there are fewer people, and it's basically just a leisurely stroll after the lights turn on at six o'clock. This citywalk is definitely worth it
A hidden alley next to Qianmen Street, a haven in the bustling area
Today, I'm sharing an interesting and less-known alley. It's right next to the famous commercial street, Qianmen Street in Beijing, yet it's full of scholarly atmosphere and rarely visited by tourists, quiet as a haven in the bustling area.
This is a north-south alley, divided into North Xiaoshun Alley and South Xiaoshun Alley by the Xianyukou food street. Turning into South Xiaoshun Alley from Xianyukou, it seems to shield the hustle and bustle, and the world calms down.
At some point, this place has become a living experience space where bookstores gather. Including the Republic of China style slow sit bookstore where you can play script kill, the female-themed bookstore Huadie'er, the youth-themed bookstore Warm Hug, the Book Sword Tea Academy with one book, one tea, one world, and the Ye Ye Bodhi that combines vegetarian restaurant and health culture bookstore... Each space is unique and it's very comfortable to walk around.
📍Walking route: Near the east gate of Xianyukou pedestrian street, only walkable Citywalk, the entrance of the alley is the youth bookstore, South Xiaoshun Alley—Dajiang Alley—Alishan Square.
🌟Travel suggestions:
1. A quiet and less-known leisure space, many bookstores can provide coffee or tea, especially suitable for rest and relaxation after playing on Qianmen Street.
2. An undisturbed photo spot, the wooden carved building of Ye Ye Bodhi, the red train bar at Alishan Square, the photos have a unique charm.
Spring Festival Travel | Beijing Special Forces citywalk
Badaling Great Wall
【Transportation】I live on Qianmen Street, so I booked a direct bus in advance at the Beijing Tourism Distribution Center. The bus starts rolling at 7:30 in the front bus station, and it takes less than an hour and a half to reach the parking lot next to the Badaling cableway. The return journey starts rolling back to Deshengmen and Qianmen at 12 o'clock. It is also recommended that everyone take a bus, because although the Badaling Great Wall can be reached directly by high-speed rail, it takes time to take a bus to the high-speed rail station, and there are more people checking at the high-speed rail station during the recent Spring Festival, so it is more convenient to take a bus.
【Play】We bought a round-trip cable car, and there was no need to queue up at more than 9 o'clock in the morning. It only takes a few minutes to get to Beiqi Building, and then you can climb a section by yourself to reach the highest peak of Beiba. After checking in, we went directly back to the cable car boarding point and went down the mountain. The whole journey takes about more than an hour including taking pictures.
【Food】After going down the mountain, before reaching the departure point, I filled my stomach on the commercial street under the cableway station. There are chain stores such as Starbucks, KFC, and Subway.
📍Temple of Heaven Park
【Play】I bought a joint ticket in advance, because I wanted to check in the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests first, so I chose to be closer to the north entrance. There are many people queuing for the popular photo spots, and you can also find your own angle in the square and behind the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests. The photos are also good. The Temple of Heaven is really good for taking pictures, it's really beautiful. Due to time constraints, the last two attractions did not have time to check in.
【Afternoon Tea】After coming out of the Hall of Prayer for Good Harvests, walk towards the west gate, you can see the store of 'Temple of Heaven Feast', which is said to be the same as the Wanchun Jinfu in the Forbidden City. The taste of red plum princess smile and red bean lotus seed soup is good, mousse cake, persimmon and latte are standard. We went to queue for a number after five o'clock, but the turnover was quite fast.
🍽️Lunch: 'Ziguangyuan' ordered Ziguangyuan's takeaway to the hotel, mainly because I wanted to eat yogurt skin, and it did not disappoint me, it was really delicious!
Dinner: 'Siji Minfu Roast Duck Restaurant (Qianmen Langfang Second Store)', Siji Minfu has fewer queues, called errands to get the number to the hotel, and found that the store is very small and the turnover is super slow, and the waiting area is very cold outdoors. It is recommended to go to the Qianmen store, which should be faster. I ate half a roast duck, the duck is very fragrant, and I also ordered Beile barbecue, pea seedlings, almond tofu, all of which are not bad.
The correct way to open the New Year landmark at the front door of Citywalk within the second ring
New Year's landmark has to look at my big front door
I posted a video in the last post, this one is a photo, it's really good to shoot, don't miss it if you like it.
The route is very concentrated:
Exit A/B of Qianmen Subway Station
Beijing Fang: The tree is decorated with many yellow lights, and there are inflatable style lanterns
pageone: There are New Year decorations, and the bookstore itself is also very good to shoot
pageone & Starbucks: Navigate to Starbucks, a hutong decorated with super good-looking lanterns between Starbucks and pageone, many people who come to shoot by name, it is indeed good to look at the picture
Qianmen: Coming out from the side of the lantern is Qianmen, almost every shop on the street starting from Zhengyangmen is full of New Year's flavor, the tree is hung with red lanterns, and there are Fu Zi lights, authentic traditional snacks, and various good shops to visit. , Walking on the street will also encounter a tram, it is not too much to say that it is the place with the most New Year's flavor
Don't miss it if you like it, go check in quickly!
Exploring the old hutongs of Qianmen Street: The beauty of the blend of tradition and modernity
Qianmen Street is a very famous commercial street in Beijing, and the old hutongs are one of the traditional architectural forms of Beijing, carrying the history and culture of Beijing. There are many old hutongs around Qianmen Street, such as Langfang Toutiao, Second Street, Third Street, and Langfang Fourth Street. These hutongs used to be bustling commercial areas, with many old shops and traditional handicraft shops, attracting many tourists to visit and shop. Among these hutongs, Dashilar is a very famous place, where a large number of shops and gold and silver shops gathered in history, and it was one of the important centers of Beijing's commerce. Today, these old hutongs still maintain the traditional architectural style and market culture, and are one of the important tourist attractions in Beijing.

Qianmen Street
A landmark street in old Beijing style, filled with small shops selling Beijing specialty products, as well as some century-old shops. The whole journey is long, but there are retro trams to ride.

This year's Qianmen Street really has a strong New Year atmosphere!
Beijing Qianmen Street in Snow
We stayed in one of the hotel located at Beijing Qianmen street. It was a cold winter day and it suddenly started to snow in the afternoon. The room in the hotel was so warm and we opened the window to watch the snow flakes dancing… very romantic. 😄
We saw some people made snowmen ⛄️ on the street. A group of people lined up to sweep and remove the snow on the main road so that it won’t be slippery.
Walking in a historic street in Beijing
#christmastrip
Beginning at Tiananmen Square, I walked over to the Qianmen gate. It was quite fancy and important-looking. It felt like I was stepping right into history. After that, I wandered into the main street, and that's when things got really interesting. The street was buzzing with a mix of old and new things. Walking down Qianmen Street, I couldn't help but notice all the shops selling traditional Chinese goodies. It was like a treasure trove of cultural finds. From colorful lanterns to delicate tea sets, these stores were packed with items that spoke of China's rich heritage.
Among them, the namestamp shops stood out. These places had these cool stamps with Chinese characters that could be personalized with your name. It felt like taking home a piece of China's history.Nestled in the small streets were traditional Chinese food stores, adding another layer to the experience. The aroma of local delicacies wafted through the air, tempting passersby to savor the authentic flavors of Chinese cuisine.
So, if you're ever on Qianmen Street and have a thing for traditional Chinese stuff and mouthwatering food, these shops are a must-visit. They turn a simple stroll into a journey through China's cultural wonders and culinary delights.
Timetraveling in Beijing
Qianmen Street is such a cultural gem! You can reach here by subway from Exit I. The walking street is lined with rows of shops dating back to the Wing Dynasty, with time honored brands like Liu Bi Ju preserved vegetables, Dong Lai Shun hotpot, and Quan Ju De roast duck. Shopping here is truly a fascinating experience among the ancient Chinese style architecture.
You can also find all kinds of traditional Beijing snacks and traditional cuisine. My favorites are Mending Beef Roubing, Tanghulu, Gongting (Palace) Cheese Curd, and steamed dumplings (siomai) from Du Yi Chu.
For stamp collectors, almost every time honored store has a stamp featuring its logo! Most of these stamps are free, apart from the designer stamps at the post office - purchase 19 RMB to stamp. #timetotravel #foodie #culture #shoping
