Visiting Water Street in Yancheng with my family
During my recent visit to Yancheng, I had the opportunity to explore Water Street, a charming cultural and scenic spot nestled next to the Chuanchang River. As I walked along the street, which stretches between Dongjin Road and Century Avenue, I was struck by the rich history and culture of the Haiyan people.
One of the highlights of my visit was the cultural area on Water Street and also how friendly locals were.
As I strolled along the street, I also admired the picturesque scenery, with its quaint houses and bridges reflecting in the tranquil river. The atmosphere was peaceful and relaxing, and I found myself immersed in the beauty of the surroundings.
Overall, my visit to Water Street was a memorable experience that allowed me to appreciate the rich culture and history of Yancheng. I would highly recommend this spot to anyone interested in exploring the local traditions and enjoying the scenic beauty of the area.

Yancheng in Jiangsu's northern Jiangsu is a low-key city, unlike the aura of Suzhou and Nanjing. The history of Yancheng is also very long. Because of the salt county in 119 BC, although the salt industry is not the main one, the name has been preserved. The sea salt culture of Yancheng has a long history and a sea salt museum has been built.
There is a water street in the south of Yancheng, which is a must for many tourists. However, this water street is not a monument, but a new one. The total investment of Water Street is 310 million yuan. It was officially completed in 2008 and is positioned in the national 4A level tourist attraction.
Water Street covers an area of more than 200 acres. It is located in the administrative center area and is also the core area of culture. It is responsible for the city's characteristic business, tourism, culture and leisure. It is called the Confucius Temple in Yancheng.
Take a wooden canopy at the circular pier on the riverside of the river. Pass the waterway entrance and cross the water gate at the southernmost side of the water street. There are more than 50 shops along the street, which concentrate on Yancheng's special tourism products related to the sea salt culture. The
wooden boat slowly passed through the "Rafting Boat Theatre", "Old Zhou Tea Club", "Hanmo Pavilion" and "Shuiyun Pavilion", and finally arrived at the Yanshang House - Da Zhai Men, located at the northern end of Shui Street. Dazhemen covers an area of about 20,000 square meters and has a total of three entrances. It is the largest group of concentrated buildings in the entire water street scenic spot.
Yanzhen Shui Street
Yanzhen Shui Street is closely adjacent to the Chuan Chang River landscape belt, carrying the historical changes and development of Haiyan. Its original site was at the west gate of the ancient Salt City, built by the water, hence the name 'Shui Street'. In the old days, salt merchants moored their boats along the street, with shops lined up, wealthy and prosperous, renowned throughout southern Huai.
Return to the hotel to rest, and visit the night market in the evening

💗 Fun to visit, great for photography, and delicious food~ The big pendulum ride feels more thrilling than the one in Nanjing Happy Valley, and the ticket is cheaper. I love the cultural and creative store, only visited the first floor, and later found out that the second floor has intangible cultural heritage + parent-child DIY, and the third floor has DIY scented candles.
💗 Tulips in spring, lotus in summer, lilies in autumn, and the Night Flower Sea Music Festival with fireworks during the summer vacation... A scenic spot I've visited countless times, great for photography!
💗 There's a bookstore and cultural and creative store on the first floor, and a coffee shop and exhibition area on the second floor, with some artistic activities usually happening. The space is not big, but it's very photogenic.
💗 There are many specialty stores, Tim's fried yogurt is so delicious, and you can also go to the opposite Salt Cube TV Tower to overlook the night view.
💗 Yan+ Book Fair photography yyds!
💗 The first choice to see lanterns, but usually not many people. Cinema, arcade games, barber shop, tailor shop, post office... Full of old Yancheng memories, especially suitable for photography and check-ins! There's a very nice warehouse-style living hall on the fifth floor! Tableware, murals, furniture, decorations... they have everything.
💗Bring your plus-sized appetite
As an "immersive international entertainment district" that offers everything from dining, entertainment, and shopping in one place, Dongdaemun is home to dozens of international cuisines, with Korean, Thai restaurants, bars, coffee shops, and more. The styles are distinctive and the variety is plentiful. As tourists walk through, they feel as if they are on the streets of a foreign country, immersed in the experience of international cuisine. With this charming bite, the world is in your mouth! → Exciting Market
At the Dongdaemun market, there is a collection of skewers, fruit salads, cotton candy, and frozen sweet dumplings among other delicacies.
Yancheng Water Street in Jiangsu - A visual feast, waiting for you
The most shocking is the dragon-shaped lantern, which has been carefully designed and placed in front of the scripture storage building. Through clever layout and lighting effects, a visual illusion is created, making the dragon-shaped lantern seem to pass through one side of the scripture storage building and then extend to the other side, perfectly blending with the scripture storage building, forming a spectacular scene.
Yancheng Water Street | 800 meters waterway, Yancheng's Eight Big Bowls, Fan Gongdi, Yanzong Temple
Yancheng Water Street is located in the central area of Yancheng City, and the mother river of Yancheng, Chuan Chang River, flows past it. The streets are full of green water, and the buildings are simple and elegant.
Historical records show: "Water Street, located at the west gate of the ancient city. Salt merchants dock their boats along the street, rich merchants gather, shops are lined up, the lights are bright and the wine is green, it is also known as Huainan."
The entire Water Street has a waterway more than 800 meters long, winding and twisting, connecting all the landscapes. Pavilions, towers, flower windows, lanterns, green bricks and brown tiles, all show the ancient elegance.
Yancheng Water Street is divided into three major areas: the mansion gate, the sky water square, and the post water restaurant. There are special attractions such as Shuiyun Pavilion, Piaozhou Opera Garden, and Hanmo Pavilion. One by one, there are good scenery and fun, and there are also delicious food.
Yancheng's Eight Big Bowls are very famous, including "Stewed Earth Biao, Big Chicken Hugging Small Chicken, Braised Glutinous Rice Balls, Braised Clams, Raised Cakes, Taro Shrimp Soup, Braised Pork, Braised Knife Fish" and other authentic banquet dishes. And each dish has different meanings and allusions.
In 1021 AD, Fan Zhongyan, an outstanding thinker, politician, military strategist, educator, and litterateur of the Northern Song Dynasty, was transferred to the salt warehouse in Xixi (now Dongtai City). During his tenure, he strongly advocated the reconstruction of the Hanhai Dam, allowing the people to live and work in peace and contentment, known as "Fan Gongdi".
Yancheng is named after salt and thrives because of salt. The origin of "boiling the sea for salt" can be traced back to the Yan Emperor period. During the Spring and Autumn and Warring States periods, the sea salt production in the coastal areas of Wu, Yue, and Chu had initially taken shape.
The Salt Merchant Guild Hall can be regarded as the core of Water Street. It is the largest group of concentrated buildings in the entire Water Street scenic area, with flying eaves and corners, ancient and quaint. The group of sculptures in front of the door also vividly reproduces the prosperity of the salt industry and the gathering of merchants at that time.
Yanzong Temple is a temple dedicated to the Salt God, composed of three main halls. The main hall in the middle worships the ancestors of salt production, Shu Sha, the ancestors of salt management, Jiao Ge, and the ancestors of salt management, Guan Zhong. The eastern hall worships the Great Saint of Salt Plate, and the western hall worships the Salt Lady.

Yancheng--Walked 20,000 steps, didn't spend much money
On Friday after work, I decided to go to Yancheng with my husband. We arrived by high-speed rail at 20:00
Stay: Directly checked into Jinglai Hotel next to the high-speed rail station, very convenient, good value for money, checked a few attractions are not far, convenient transportation. About ¥200(p3)
Travel: Shared bicycles rode to the water street(p4) in about ten minutes. There are Hello bicycles
Food: Ordered fish soup dumplings and vegetable porridge from Cuiqi Xiaolong for takeout in the evening, the fish soup was very delicious, and the vegetable porridge was surprisingly good. Less than ¥20
Drank a large cup of tea from A Shui, and Grandpa doesn't make tea, haven't tried these two brands, they were pretty good. Day2:
Food: Ordered Huaiyang Tower for brunch, actually a six-piece set is enough
Travel: Took a bus for 2 yuan directly from the hotel side platform to the Wetland Museum
The Wetland Museum is free, the stranded whale skeleton is very spectacular(p5), the design has some clever ideas, p6 this wall is a touch screen, you can listen to the calls of different birds, don't miss it.
Took a taxi to the Sea Salt Museum(p7)
Free, need to make an appointment on the public number, general, can listen to the audio explanation on the mobile phone. Took a taxi to Flower Street(p8), didn't feel like eating anything special, looked at the salt cube, continued to share a bicycle for about 15 minutes to Yan+ Book Club(P9) It was too hot, strolled around the shopping district and took a taxi directly to Zhuxi Ancient Town.
The ancient town is quite good! The business model is relatively new, very beautiful at night, if you come in the afternoon you can cook tea around the stove. Ate at Zhuxi Workers and Peasants Restaurant, the environment is quite good but the food is average.
Tim's fried yogurt(p10) has really cheap and good toys inside! Almost didn't find it, actually it's just a wall away, girls must go and have a look! The last picture is the seal at the Wetland Museum saying goodbye~
About Yancheng milk tea: I found that besides the chain brand milk tea in the mall, other attractions' milk tea brands are relatively niche, so I ended up drinking Ruixing and Kudi at Zhuxi for the whole day.
The overpass in Yancheng is very fast, and it's super fast from Zhuxi back to the hotel. Overall, it's quite interesting, Zhuxi is worth a second visit!
Taste the ancient charm of Yancheng, Jiangsu, and enjoy the good times in the water street!
🌟Yancheng Town Water Street in Yancheng, Jiangsu, is located on the east side of the Yellow Sea. Naturally, there is no lack of water here. Among the ancient buildings, it is full of local folk customs. The water street is naturally also known as the 'dream ink land of Jiangsu'.
👍The water street prospered because of the salt merchants and salt people. It has preserved traditional landscapes with salt transportation culture and the historical memory of old Yancheng, such as the salt merchant guild hall, salt ancestral hall, tourist boat dock, and floating boat opera garden. The buildings in the street are quiet and beautiful with the charm of the south of the Yangtze River in the green bricks and brown tiles, which contrasts sharply with the flying eaves of the landmark building Shuiyun Pavilion. Looking up, the Shuiyun Pavilion is high and vertical into the clouds, which is particularly eye-catching.
❤Yancheng Water Street is divided into three major areas: Dazhai Gate, Tianshui Square, and Yishui Restaurant. Centered on the Shuiyun Pavilion, a characteristic block for eating, drinking, and having fun has formed around it. The mighty dragon lantern is coiled on the building, and the roadside is a uniquely shaped flower lantern. During the day, it is impossible to see the clues. In the evening, when the lights are on, it is bright and beautiful, and it is another different scene.
✅The Lunar New Year is coming soon, and the water street is naturally a scene full of New Year's flavor. Starting from the 23rd of the twelfth lunar month, it will become lively here. From the first day of the first lunar month (February 10) to the eighth day (February 17), the 'Blessed Dragon Has Spirit' New Year temple fair event will be held here (appreciating dragon lanterns, four major fireworks food markets, Zen + folk performances, 'Jumping Dragon Year, Lucky Year' dragon year interactive games).
📍Water Street Address: No. 1 Middle Kaifang Avenue, Yancheng City.
This is Yancheng
Driving through Yancheng, in one day, went to Zhulin Hotel + Water Street + Yancheng Museum. If you play for another day, do the friends in Yancheng have any other places to recommend?
Yancheng Photography | Strolling through the ancient streets, understanding its past and present
Beyond the hustle and bustle, in the marketplace, in the ancient streets, that's where life is at its fullest!
The ancient streets have their own charm.
The Water Street during the day is just as beautiful in photos.
Less of the night's hustle and bustle, more of the inherent tranquility of Yancheng.
Rich cultural heritage! It's close to home, it's very happy to walk around and take photos in the afternoon! As a native Yancheng girl, I love our big Yancheng so much!
Yancheng Water Street
On the night of the day I arrived in Yancheng, I went to Mountain Yam Hole to eat Northern Jiangsu cuisine, and then drove to the Water Street. The parking lot only costs 5 yuan for three hours, and it's free for one hour. Due to the low temperature in Northern Jiangsu, there were few tourists at night, but the Water Street still felt very worthwhile to visit. They have already made large-scale lanterns for the arrival of the Year of the Dragon, which is very impressive. There is a boat dock on the Water Street, 40 yuan per person. There is also a snack street with quite a few varieties. It's just a pity that the traces of man-made are too obvious.
The underestimated Yancheng night view: Water Street
On my first visit to Yancheng, I was deeply attracted by the night view of this northern Jiangsu city. It's not only the low-key and hidden Water Street, but also a kind of calm and leisurely life atmosphere. Life is about enjoying the present!
Whether it's the monks who are quietly copying scriptures in the pavilions, or the actors performing Huai opera 'Tooth Mark Record' on the stage, they all make people feel a strong sense of worldly life.
At the circular dock by the Chuanchang River, take a wooden canopy boat and slowly pass by the attractions such as 'Floating Boat Opera Garden', 'Water Cloud Pavilion', etc. The outlines of the antique buildings with flying eaves appear in front of you, the artificial river meanders between the buildings, and you can also meet the staff dancing in Hanfu.
The garden-style architectural complex of Water Street, the entire architectural style is antique, the waterway is winding, the pavilions stand by the water, the walls are made of clay green bricks, the roof is made of green tiles or glazed tiles, equipped with aluminum alloy antique doors and windows, showing the water town style of Yancheng and the historical and cultural features of sea salt.
Every night from 7:00 to 9:00, Huai opera fans will perform here. Citizens who come to watch the opera and enjoy the cool are endless. Whether it's ancient costume drama or modern small drama, there are citizens coming to appreciate it every night. Opera performance has become a major feature of Water Street. The night in Yancheng makes people linger.
