About Mandalay

Mandalay is the is the second-largest city, the last royal capital of Burma, and the economic hub of Upper Burma. It is located 716km (445 mile) north of Yangon on the east bank of the Irrawaddy River and is considered the center of Burmese culture. Mandalay is primarily used by travelers as a transport and day-trip hub, but the hot, bustling city has a few sights of its own including Amarapura, Mandalay palace, and U Bein Bridge.

U Bein Bridge is located near the ancient city of Amalapa, across the East Taman Lake. Built of precious teakwood, it has survived since 1850, likely making it the oldest surviving example of teakwood bridge construction. Sunsets over U Bein Bridge are very romantic and one of Myanmar's most famous landscapes. There are six pavilions along the bridge, which symbolize the "six spirits" of Buddhism. It is said that when Burmese people fall in love, they come to the bridge from a thousand miles away, praying for their love to last longer. To the locals then, U Bein Bridge is also called "the lover's bridge."

For example, the Gudu Tao Pagoda, the Shanda Moonee Pagoda, famous for its Buddhist scriptures, and the beautifully carved golden palace teak temples.

The Maha Ghanaian temple is located in the ancient city of Amarapura not far from Mandalay and is one of the largest temples in Myanmar. With a history of hundreds of years, it is currently home to thousands of monks. It is like a deaf university, with nearly 2,000 students. The temple begins preparing meals for the monks from about ten o'clock, and the monks also kept the commandments of noon and noon. Every day at 10 o'clock in the morning, tourists from all over the world gather here, and witness the scene of thousands of monks eating lunch together.
