Built shortly after the turn of the 19th century, the Pont des Arts is a bridge that stretches across the Seine that was built shortly after the turn of the 19th century. It was Paris's first metal bridge. Napoleon commissioned the work using English manufacturing designs as an inspiration. The original bridge was damaged heavily during the two World Wars and would require rebuilding in the early 1980s. The modern bridge follows closely the original plans of designer Louis Arretche.
