Mount Emei, one of the four sacred Buddhist mountains of China, located in Leshan City, is also one of the most beautiful mountains I have ever climbed.Came here during February, the night before was still snowing, can imagine how cold the weather is. Staircase to the mountains was filled with ice, very slippery, along the way will have many people trying to sell your their ‘spiking shoe’, do not get cheated as it will not help you at all. If you were lucky, you will meet the mountain monkeys family, don’t try to feed them as they will not satisfy with whatever you fed, they are picky, and will try to snatch your bag, my poor paper bag was torn by the naughty monkey. When finally reached the top of mountain, the view was stunning, awesome, so beautiful, and no words can describe how magnificent it is. Golden temple is shining on top of the mountain, it is so beautiful! Very lucky to catch a very short period of clear blue sky on a cloudy day.

incredible mountain!! cannot recommend it enough. it is expensive to enter the mountian at ¥160 but very much worth it especially if you do alot of hiking in the scenic area. for the best experience, stay in Leidongping overnight and then wake up early to hike to the Golden summit for sunrise. if you are fit, it will take 1.5 hours, otherwise if you start hiking 2-2.5 hours before sunrise that will be enough time for you to get to the top and secure a nice spot to watch the sunrise. my best tip is to take a warm jacket to the summit, even at the height of summer, early morning is very cold at the top.

Emei shan is a very beautiful place. I climbed the whole mountain over 2 days. It’s amazing walking through all the different zones on the mountain. At the bottom it feels almost tropical, then you walk up through the clouds until you hit the icy area then walk out above the clouds near the summit!! I spent 2 nights on the mountain but you only need 1 if you can hike at a reasonable speed. The first day I hiked from Baoguosi to Leidongping. It took about 11h including a half hour stop for lunch at Xianfengsi and a few short breaks for water. Although the accommodation at Leidongping is nicer, I regretted not stopping at Xixiangchi as those last 7.5km were very painful! From Leidongping it’s about a two hour walk or a cable car trip to the summit. I only stayed the second night in Leidongping because I had already booked and paid for the Hotel. I went in winter, but it was the first weekend of the spring festival rush so I unnecessarily booked the hotel. The first night in Leidongping I walked into to a different guesthouse and was offered a similar room for half the price of my online booking. In winter the first bus down the mountain leaves at 9am.

An amazing place! The weather was so cold and the fog and clouds were too thick. very difficult to see. It’s still a great experience. people’s hair were frozen! Very funny to see people with icy hair Can see some small chipmunks, they will approach you for food, just be careful. The drive to the top was very windy. Easy for people to feel sick. I will definitely travel here again to see the amazing sunset.
