Founded in 1928, it is the earliest university in Taiwan and the most complete comprehensive and research university in Taiwan. Famous as "Rhododendron Flower City", the azaleas bloom every March, adding infinite charm to the campus. The school gate was built in 1931 and was designed by the Governor's Office of Taiwan during the Japanese rule period. It is now a monument in Taipei City. It is now under the jurisdiction of four major campuses in Taipei City and Xitou Experimental Forest. The school covers about one percent of the island's land area.
