Column of Phocas

The Focus Column is built in the Roman Square and is said to be used for commemorative purposes. Several columns have collapsed, leaving only four. With a long history, pillars have a history of more than 1000 years.

Focus Column was built in 608 and erected in front of the Plaza of Ancient Rome in memory of King Focus of the Byzantine Empire, the last part of the Plaza of Ancient Rome. The column, 13.6 metres high, was erected on the base of cubic milky white marble. The brick square foundation was invisible until the 19th century, when the ground of the ancient Roman Plaza was cleared, it emerged as an earlier stage of construction. The original statue above the cylinder has been destroyed. Now it stands in isolation in the square, near the Arc de Triomphe in Seville, becoming a landmark of the ancient Roman square.

Focus Column is the latest building built in the ancient Roman Square, next to the Arc de Triomphe in Seville. The column is in memory of Byzantine King Focus. Today, only square marble foundations and Collins pillars are left on the cylinder. The statue of Focus at the top has disappeared. It is said that the statue only existed for two years.
