Upon arrival, check-in at reception was smooth. We were provided with our room key and directed to our accommodation, which required us to drive to the other side of the estate. However, when we reached the room, the key did not work. We walked back to reception, where we were informed that a network issue had prevented the key from being properly programmed. The receptionist, who was very helpful, offered to accompany us to the room and opened it using a master key. She assured us that a functioning key would be delivered as soon as the network was restored. Upon entering the room, we immediately noticed that it had not been cleaned. The window sill was sticky with what appeared to be beverage spills, the floor was dirty, the bathroom mats were not fresh, and most concerning, there were rat droppings on the window sill, on the floor behind the curtains, and behind the door. I contacted reception to request housekeeping and asked to speak with a manager, as the condition of the room was unacceptable. A housekeeping staff member arrived, but I requested that cleaning not proceed until the housekeeping manager assessed the situation. The manager quickly confirmed that the room had indeed not been cleaned and that there were clear signs of rodent activity. She apologised sincerely, asked us to wait while the room was cleaned, and said she would escalate the matter to the rooms division. While waiting on the terrace outside, we noticed a mouse in the bushes, which explained the droppings found inside. After the room was cleaned, the manager returned, apologised again, and informed us that a complimentary bottle of wine had been arranged for us. We told her about the mouse we had seen and expressed that we did not feel comfortable staying in that room. She went back to speak with the rooms division, and we waited in the bar. An hour later, she returned with keys to a new room and directed us there. The replacement room was clean, though the entire experience made for a rocky start to our stay. The following day, after breakfast, we returned to our room to find that the terrace doors had been removed and two maintenance staff were working. This came as an unexpected surprise, as no one had informed us that repairs would be taking place. We decided to return to the bar to allow the work to be completed. As we were celebrating a birthday that day, the housekeeping manager kindly arranged for our room to be decorated with a birthday message. From that point onward, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay thanks to the exceptional customer service at the restaurants, bars, and spa. In particular, we would like to recognise Moses, Regal, and Tebogo at Kingsley Restaurant; Sibongile at Granatas; and Mandy at the spa for their outstanding hospitality. They truly made our stay memorable. Overall, despite the challenges we experienced upon arrival, we had a lovely stay. Thank you to everyone who contributed to making my mother’s birthday special.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Perfect airport hotel with such a cool aviation theme ✈️ I really enjoyed my stay at Protea Hotel by Marriott O.R. Tambo Airport. If you need somewhere to stay before or after a flight from O.R. Tambo, the location is incredibly convenient — the hotel is only about 3.5 km from the airport and provides a complimentary airport shuttle, which makes travelling so much easier. The first thing that stood out to me was the aviation theme. It’s carried throughout the hotel, from the aeroplane-inspired artwork to the industrial-style furniture and décor. Even my room continued the theme, which gave it so much more character than a typical airport hotel. My room was clean, modern and comfortable, with a very comfortable bed, TV, tea and coffee facilities and a small fridge. I also really liked the rainfall shower and the overall open, contemporary bathroom design. The hotel’s rooms are soundproofed too, which is definitely appreciated considering how close you are to the airport. The hotel also has an outdoor swimming pool, a 24-hour gym and an on-site restaurant called The Warehouse, which serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. Room service is available as well, so you really don’t need to leave the property if you’re only there for a short stopover. What I liked most was that it actually feels like an airport hotel in the best possible way. ✈️ The aeroplane photographs, aviation-style furniture and little design details make the property interesting and memorable rather than just somewhere convenient to sleep. Overall, I would definitely recommend Protea Hotel O.R. Tambo Airport for layovers, early-morning flights, late arrivals or even an overnight stay between connecting flights. Comfortable, clean, convenient and literally minutes away from the airport. ⭐️ 5/5 — I would definitely stay here again, especially when flying through Johannesburg. ✈️❤️

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Stay – Southern Sun O.R. Tambo International Airport I had an amazing stay at Southern Sun O.R. Tambo International Airport and would definitely stay here again. The hotel is very clean, comfortable, and conveniently located just a few minutes from the airport, making it the perfect choice before or after a flight. My room was spacious, spotless, and had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. The staff were welcoming, professional, and made me feel at home from the moment I arrived. One of the highlights of my stay was the food. I ordered room service several times and every meal was fresh, delicious, and beautifully presented. I was impressed by the variety on the menu—whether I wanted a hearty dinner, a healthy breakfast, fresh fruit, yogurt and granola, desserts, or hot beverages, there was something for every craving. The quality exceeded my expectations, and I loved the convenience of ordering directly from the QR code menu in the room. Overall, I genuinely enjoyed my stay. Great service, comfortable rooms, excellent food, and an unbeatable location near O.R. Tambo International Airport. I highly recommend Southern Sun to anyone looking for a relaxing and enjoyable stay in Johannesburg. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great hotel! We were very well received by the staff, and the check-in and check-out process was super fast. The main highlight is the free round-trip airport shuttle. For those looking for practicality and who don't want to worry about transportation, it's the perfect choice. I highly recommend it!

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Beautiful, spacious and perfect for a relaxing stay I had such a lovely stay at Weston Guest House Krugersdorp. The property is in Noordheuwel, Krugersdorp, and the whole place has such a peaceful, private atmosphere. My room was very spacious, clean and comfortable. I especially loved the bedroom and the big comfortable bed, but the highlight for me was definitely the spa bath/Jacuzzi. 😍 It made the stay feel like a proper little getaway rather than just somewhere to sleep. I also loved how much space I had. There was a separate living area with a large TV and comfortable seating, a dining/work area, and a proper kitchen with a large fridge, microwave, stove, kettle, toaster and plenty of cupboard space. If you’re staying for a few days and don’t want to eat out all the time, having a full kitchen makes such a difference. The room gets beautiful natural light, and I loved sitting by the large windows in the morning. The property itself is in a quiet area and is known for its views, which adds to that peaceful, away-from-everything feeling. Everything felt comfortable and homely while still giving that romantic getaway feeling. There’s also free Wi-Fi and private parking, and the guest house has a pool and other facilities on the property. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay at Weston Guest House and would definitely stay here again. I’d especially recommend it for couples, a relaxing weekend away, or even a solo stay when you just want somewhere peaceful, spacious and comfortable. ⭐️ 5/5 — and that Jacuzzi was definitely my favourite part! 🛁😍

I had an outstanding stay at The Catalyst Hotel in Sandton. From the moment I arrived, the staff were warm, professional, and genuinely welcoming, making the check-in process smooth and effortless. The rooms are modern, stylish, and impeccably clean, with comfortable beds and thoughtful amenities that made it easy to relax after a long day. The attention to detail throughout the hotel is impressive, creating a luxurious yet comfortable atmosphere. One of the biggest highlights is the hotel’s excellent location. It’s conveniently situated close to Sandton City, Nelson Mandela Square, and the Gautrain, making it an ideal choice for both business and leisure travellers. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of fresh, delicious options, and every meal I had at the restaurant was of excellent quality. The facilities, including the gym, pool, and spa, are well maintained and add tremendous value to the overall experience. What truly sets The Catalyst apart is the exceptional customer service. Every member of staff went above and beyond to ensure my stay was enjoyable, always greeting guests with a smile and a willingness to help. If you’re looking for a modern, comfortable, and well-located hotel in Johannesburg, I highly recommend The Catalyst Hotel. It offers outstanding value for money and delivers a level of hospitality that makes you want to return. I will definitely be staying here again on my next visit to Sandton.

I had the best time just relaxing at the hotel . The staff were very friendly and because it was my birthday they upgraded my room and gave me free breakfast . I had an amazing time and I can’t wait to go back . Room services was also really great and the views were amazing .

The location is spectacular. The rooms are good value for money. I liked my stay a lot. The only thing is if you’re booked into a room further away, you must know that if it is raining you have to walk outside and to the entrance to fetch your food orders or get your uber — only downside.

Great location — just a 10-minute taxi ride from the airport, and an Uber costs about 150 ZAR. The rooms are clean and comfy. Since it's so close to the airport, you can hear planes taking off at night — didn't bother me much, but good to know if you're a light sleeper. One heads-up: I couldn't find clear info about the hotel shuttle — times and pick-up point weren't listed anywhere, so I just took a taxi. Once I arrived, I found out that the shuttle actually runs every 30 minutes from the Intercontinental Hotel at OR Tambo Airport. Would be great if that info was easier to find beforehand! Overall, a solid stay — clean, convenient, and good value.

I had a very pleasant stay at Hyatt House Sandton. The hotel is calm, safe, and in a good location, with easy Uber access to Nelson Mandela Square and Rosebank Mall. The staff were excellent and very welcoming. They allowed me to check in early before the official time, and on my birthday evening I returned to my room to find a surprise birthday cake waiting for me. Such a thoughtful gesture. Breakfast was good, but remember to bring your own toothbrush and toothpaste. Overall, a comfortable stay and I would definitely come back again.
