It's the Opera House Great Opera Hits 2026 performance. I bought the cheapest B seats, and the location was not bad. I didn't have to exchange the voucher for a ticket at the box office, so I just scanned the barcode and entered. Subtitles are in English and Chinese. It's a great way to see an opera performance on a budget in Sydney.

I highly recommend taking a guided tour of the opera house. The guides are very professional, explaining everything from the initial architectural concept to the completion process. You'll deeply appreciate the meticulous attention to detail in the building's design, material selection, interior construction, decoration, and fabrics. I highly recommend coming in the morning.

Sydney Opera House History & Facts

Sydney Opera House History & Facts

Sydney Opera House is the most famous landmark in Sydney. It is one of the most distinctive buildings of the 20th century and a world-renowned centre for the performing arts. Designed by Danish architect Jørn Utzon, construction began in 1959, and it was officially completed in 1973.

The Sydney Opera House is known for its unique sail-like design, which is said to have been inspired by a cluster of peeled orange segments. In 2007, it was designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site.

Fun facts about Sydney Opera House:

  • There are more than 1 million roof tiles covering approximately 1.62 hectares sitting over the structure. They were made in Sweden.
Sydney Opera House sits on Bennelong Point. Bennelong Point was named after Woollarawarre Bennelong, a senior Eora man at the time of the arrival of British colonisers in Australia in 1788.
  • Sydney Opera House is cooled using seawater taken directly from the harbour. The system circulates cold water from the harbour through 35 kilometres of pipes to power both the heating and air conditioning in the building.
  • Seven A380s could sit wing-to-wing on the site.

Standing alongside the Sydney Opera House as one of the city's two most iconic landmarks, the Sydney Tower Eye is among the tallest structures in Australia. It is a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Sydney. While an admission ticket is required to reach the observation deck, it is well worth the cost for the breathtaking 360-degree panoramic views of the entire Sydney city center.

My cousin came here for her honeymoon and we visited together. The view was absolutely stunning, and her family loved it too. Even when her husband lost his phone, the staff were so helpful in finding it for him. We’re very grateful for their kindness and excellent service!😊

It was pretty good. I bought the itinerary for the next day at the last minute, and it was cheaper (by a lot) than other Klook or KKday tours. The tour guide and driver was from mainland China. After purchasing the tour, you could message customer service and wait for their reply. Then you could join the group's WeChat group, where the administrator would send you the itinerary for the next day, meeting time, location, etc. Trip.com listed the departure time as 8:00 AM, but the WeChat group notification said 8:20 AM. I think this time is friendly to night owls; I haven't seen any later times yet. We waited at the Darling Harbour Hotel entrance at around 8:00 AM that morning, and the bus arrived at about 8:15 AM. The mainland Chinese tour guide and driver introduced the scenic spots along the way, and I felt he was working very hard, doing so many things 🤣. There was also a Japanese person in our group, and the tour guide even spoke Japanese again for him. Our first stop was the Three Sisters Rocks. After a brief explanation from the tour guide, we were given about 50 minutes of free time. We could walk the trails or go back to the bus to rest. The same applied to the cable car ride; the guide dropped us off at the entrance, gave us a short explanation, and then drove to the end of the cable car line to wait for us. Overall, I think this tour offered great value for money and a lot of freedom, even better than other tours costing four or five thousand yuan.

The opera house is a bit low, so I can't see it properly. In the middle of summer, they should extend their opening hours a bit so I can see the sunset.

Royal Botanic Gardens

Located just east of Circular Quay, the Royal Botanic Gardens is an unmissable spot for visitors of all ages. Easily accessible by foot from behind the Sydney Opera House, its vast green lawns make it the perfect place for a picnic. On a clear day, sitting under the trees to enjoy the breeze and sun is incredibly relaxing. It is also a premier photo spot where you can capture both the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House in a single frame.

I went in mid-November during the autumn foliage season, so it wasn't the peak of the flowers, but it was great to be able to see so many plants and flowers from all over the world. I'd like to come back in the spring. Also, since it's such a vast area, it might be a good idea to narrow down what you want to see beforehand. I recommend the Princess of Wales Conservatory and the Alpine alpine plants! There were lots of explanations, so it's a good way to learn more about flowers.

It's so big that if you want to see all the important parts, you have to go first thing in the morning. Even then, you might not be able to see everything. It's a luxurious and wonderful time to relax in your favorite area. The Winter Palace glasshouse built in the Victorian era is worth a visit. The collection and architecture show the national power of Britain at that time.

Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair

Just a few minutes' walk from the Royal Botanic Gardens is Mrs. Macquarie’s Chair, a historic bench hand-carved directly into a sandstone rock ledge. Created in the 1800s for Elizabeth Macquarie, the wife of the Major-General of New South Wales, it was hand-chiseled by convicts in 1810. Today, "The Chair" is a popular tourist site not only for its historical significance but also for offering one of the most picturesque, postcard-perfect views of the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House.

We walked all the way to Mrs. Macaulay's Chair. The scenery along the way was beautiful and our trip was also very relaxing. We spread a mat near the Mrs. Macaulay Chair to take a rest, read a book, enjoy the sea breeze, and appreciate the two major landmarks of Sydney - the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge. It was really a pleasant experience. I recommend this trip.
