"We have stayed at the Novotel Bourges many times over the years, usually as an overnight stop when travelling through France, and our experiences have sometimes been a little hit or miss. On this occasion, however, our stay on the journey South was a good one. The hotel was extremely busy, particularly on the Friday evening, but there was still a nice atmosphere about the place. The bar was very busy but was well staffed and service remained friendly and efficient despite the number of guests. Our rooms were spotless, well appointed and clearly modernised to a good standard. We had a comfortable night's sleep and everything in the rooms was as it should be. Breakfast the following morning was equally busy, but the buffet was well stocked and very well managed. Staff were constantly replenishing items and keeping everything moving, which was impressive given how busy the hotel was. The one significant downside was the parking. There was absolutely nowhere available in the hotel car park when we arrived and we eventually had to park on a grass verge, which wasn't ideal. There also appeared to be a number of vehicles in the car park that looked as though they may have been there for some considerable time. For a hotel that attracts so many guests travelling by car, the parking situation could certainly do with being looked at. Overall though, a good stay on this occasion. The hotel was busy but well run, the rooms were excellent and the staff remained friendly and welcoming throughout."

"I just left this hotel and I absolutely have to share my experience: I woke up to a spider crawling on my shoulder, turned on the light and found 10 more ready to descend on the bed. Room on the top floor with exposed beams that no one has cleaned in years. I had a nightmare night. Room on the second floor with no elevator so if you have joint problems, forget it, very steep stairs. Basic breakfast with 4 items thrown together. I understand why it's a 2-star... forget it!"

"Charming, designer and clean hotel. Close to the city center and train station. The staff are simply charming and attentive. It is always a real pleasure to come to your establishment during my business trips. The reception is open at night which is very nice. The breakfast is excellent and you remember your hot drink during your previous visit. I welcome the flexibility of breakfast times as I often have to leave early. All these little touches mean that I can only recommend you to my friends and colleagues. Reservation by email and incredible response responsiveness."

"Arrived quite late for a one night stay en route to Limoges in late June. Tired after overnight flight from Australia via Dubai. The hostess Mathilde was absolutely the best at accommodating us with soup, bread, cheese, biscuits and wine in the main building's kitchen. She was very friendly and spoke excellent English. Had a lovely night's sleep followed by a beautiful cooked breakfast and decent coffee! The place is a delight - an old barn that belonged to her husband's grandmother which had been relocated to their delightful property in Mery sur Cher. Bed and room absolutely comfortable and food excellent. Highly recommended."
