Very nice Japanese style room overlooking the river and the tree filled riverbank hill. It was very private. Breakfast and dinner was served at the table and was excellent. Much variety of fish, chicken, pork, tofu, and vegetables. The overall atmosphere was very elegant and relaxed. The ryokan is located right on one of the bus stops for easy access from the train station. It is a short 10 minute walk to the main area of town. There are several onsen pools. Some rotate between men and women at different hours. Very clean with good amenities. Overall a very memorable stay.

After I accidentally booked the wrong check-in date, the hotel was willing to change it unconditionally and the service attitude was very good.

We had a wonderful stay! We especially liked the location - walking distance to small downtown Shima, yet far enough to have less tourists walking around. The hot springs were great, food was delicious (especially if you want to try authentic local Gunma prefecture cuisine - might not be best for children), and the nightly traditional paper story telling was also great. We took a train + bus ride from Tokyo and the local bus (40min ride) from Nakanojyo station stops right in front of the hotel. We will come back again for sure!

The location is away from the city, so it was a very calm and relaxing inn! Dinner was delicious and just the right amount of food. You can see the Shima River from the open-air bath, and it is very well maintained and clean. Apparently the water is drained and the stones polished every day.

We were given a separate side for dinner, which was different from the others. The dinner was not good, and it felt like a well-established resort hotel where only old men and women went.

This is the second stop on the Gunma Onsen tour. Right next to the bus stop, very convenient. Dinner was plentiful and delicious. The room and hot spring facilities are very satisfactory.
