Southend Hotel

OK for one night. The hotel is above the pub, which is also very busy in the afternoon. There is also live music there on Sundays until around 9 p.m. Everything is perfectly fine, unless you have room 10 next to the washing machine/dryer and sleep next to the ventilation. Even though drying and washing is not allowed after 9 p.m., it was very annoying. The hotel rooms face the back, so in the morning you also have the noise from the loading area of the supermarket. On the positive side, the room was in a modern condition and the staff were all very nice. The beach is a ten-minute walk away.

Check-in is until 10:30 PM. I arrived at Sydney Airport at 9 PM and then had to pick up my rental car. I got to the hotel around 11 PM. I had previously contacted the hotel via Trip.com to let them know I would be arriving late, and it was no problem at all! The friendly lady warmly welcomed me. She just asked for my ID, then gave me my key card. Parking is free. When you check in, you can park your car for a few minutes to the left, opposite the office. Once you've checked in, you can use your key card to open a gate to park your car. It closes again for security. So, to enter, just hold your card to the right of the office, and the gate will open. To exit, there's a control panel on the right; just press it, and the gate will open. Parking spaces are fine, even for Suzukis. Right next to the parking spots, there's a staircase that leads to your room. On the downside: no elevator. Room amenities: 2 shampoos and 2 conditioners. Fresh towels. The bathroom takes a bit of getting used to. The tiles are in a dismal state, and if the bathroom door is left open, there's a constant light from outside. There's a sink with hot water, but the mirror is to the left of it. A hairdryer is provided. The bed is comfortable and large, easily fitting two people. There's also an additional bed to the left of the window, though its purpose isn't entirely clear to me. The walls resemble a prison. A TV is available. There's a kettle, instant coffee, and tea, along with spoons and cups. Opposite the bed is a large mirror. The air conditioning only works sporadically. Pros: Close to the airport. Free parking, affordable prices. Private bathroom. Aldi is a 20-minute walk away. A few huge spiders (by European standards) visited me in the room ;D Verdict: Perfectly fine for one or two days.

Regents Court Sydney

I truly enjoyed my stay at Regent Courts Hotel. The property has a wonderful heritage charm, with its old building structure and a fascinating vintage lift — complete with a metal sliding door and wooden inner door that gave a nostalgic feel. Spacious room with two queen beds, perfect for four people. Beds and duvets were very comfortable, ensuring a restful sleep. The kitchenette was a great addition, and I was pleasantly surprised to find a Nespresso machine with capsules, milk packets, and other beverage sachets provided. A drip tray and table cloth for drying utensils, pots, and plates would be helpful. The kitchen lighting was too dim in the evenings, making cooking difficult. The knife provided was not sharp and had a chip, which could potentially cause food contamination — replacing it would improve safety. Although a washer was available, we didn’t use it since the dryer was located on the ground floor, which felt inconvenient. The Kings Cross train station is just a 5–7 minute walk away, making travel around Sydney easy. Both Woolworths and Coles supermarkets are about 7 minutes away at the end of the street, perfect for picking up essentials. The staff — from front desk to housekeeping — were consistently polite and welcoming, adding warmth to the stay. A short train trip takes you to Bondi Junction, where you can catch a bus to Bondi Beach — ideal for spending a relaxing day by the ocean. The rooftop was another relaxing spot. We visited briefly to take pictures and enjoy the fresh air. Unfortunately, I was welcomed by tiny dead roaches in the toilet. On departure, I noticed a live one coming in and out of a cracked wall near the basin support. Addressing this issue would greatly improve the overall guest experience. Overall, Regent Courts Hotel is a good place to stay for four nights. The shower, heater, water supply, safety, and lift all had no issues. Its location is accessible, close to supermarkets and the train station. The only drawback was the roach sightings, which should be addressed.

We booked a week's stay here, and were relieved to check out. We were staying on the 1st floor, in a private double room with shared bathroom. The bathrooms were disgusting throughout our week there, neither the male or female shower room was cleaned the entire week we were there. I was worried I'd catch a foot disease. The men's shower smelt of poo and piss by the end of the week. There was an accumulation of shower gels, a toothbrush, scum on the walls and the same clump of hair which all greeted me every morning. The shower door didn't close properly either, so the floor was always soaked with stagnant water. The toilets were cleaned only once during our week stay - and only because I complained. Our bedroom curtain had mould and dried up sick on it and has probably never been cleaned either. The air con also stank up the room. The windows can't be opened either, so we couldn't get any fresh air in. Our room's TV was useless because our remote didn't work, apart from the power button. Again, we brought this to the attention of staff but, after 3 reminders, the mythical ”maintenance team” that they kept mentioning never resolved the issue, and in the end we gave up trying. The TV remote was also filthy and looked like it could crawl away at any moment. There was also lots of dust in our room, particularly under the bed. Good points - it's in a great location, and the staff were friendly as were most of the guests. We get that you get what you pay for to some extent, but we have moved to a different hostel for the same price and are much happier. If other reviews are to be believed, maybe our area of the hotel was just being neglected by staff during our stay. We are sorry to leave a bad review but it was not a good experience.

My experienced wasn’t bad. Location is very close to the train station, for the price it’s okay. Shout out to the reception a guy who served me when I arrived. He offered me a can of drink because it was sunny and I was walking from station to the accomodation. Great customer service. One thing that I don’t like was the mini bar fridge it was damaged. One night I arrived into my room, I nearly slipped, there was water everywhere from the fridge all the way to the door. I rang up to discuss the issue no one answered. I decided to put all the towels in the floor to stop the water. My issue was HEALTH & SAFETY of the guest. Aside from that issue everything was good. Ildelyn Geelong vic

For a hostel, the cleanliness and facilities weren't bad. However, as it's still a hostel, it's best not to have sky-high expectations. The most surprising part was the complimentary breakfast and dinner. Considering this, it's arguably the best value-for-money hostel in Sydney.

Great stay for a night. Had everything I needed and was clean. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was the noise coming from behind the hotel in the park. But that soon died down around 11-11:30pm and I had a restful sleep.

Perfect stay in the heart of Burwood! The location can’t be beaten—walking distance to Westfield Mall, Burwood Park, and countless Asian eateries. The guesthouse has a charming historic vibe with polished wooden floors, plus modern perks like free WiFi and a coin-operated laundry. The host was super friendly and helped us store luggage after check-out.
