The Stone Kingdom of Dawawa Village

Hidden in the gullies of the Taihang Mountains is the stone kingdom - Dawawa Village. Dawawa Village is located on the eastern foothills of the Taihang Mountains, where the village houses are built on the slopes according to the terrain, with ancient architecture well-preserved. The stone courtyards are stacked and interlocked, creating a staggered and scattered layout that has a strong three-dimensional sense akin to the Potala Palace architecture; influenced by the geographical environment, there is scarce land in the village, and the most abundant resource is the stone from the Taihang Mountains. Therefore, the people who have lived here for generations have made use of local materials, adapted to the mountainous terrain, chiseled stone walls, built high cliffs in front, expanded slopes at the back, constructed wooden arches, laid blue tiles for roofs, and built houses and courtyards, fully reflecting the natural pattern of 'harmony between man and nature'. Once, Dawawa Village was very poor, hidden in the mountains and unknown to the outside world. With the construction of roads and the implementation of rural revitalization policies, Dawawa Village began to develop its tourism industry, and this ancient mountain village gradually became known to people. It is also because of its seclusion that most of the old houses have been preserved, with over 68% of the stone houses remaining intact, and only a small portion have been renovated or rebuilt.
