5 Things to Know Before Going to Beijing
5 Things to Know Before Going to Beijing
I look forward to winter in Beijing the most, walking through the hutongs with a smoky aroma, eating candied haws and watching people come and go in the hutongs.
1️⃣Transportation tips: Direct flight from Shanghai to Beijing, 300 yuan. Beijing has Beijing Capital Airport and Daxing Airport. The Capital Airport is closer to the city, recommended. You can reach the city area by 3 subway stations.
2️⃣Accommodation tips: I like Xicheng District, which has a very old Beijing feel. There are many quadrangles here. I live in a hutong on Yan Dai Xie Street, the feeling of an old courtyard, and I can chat with the old men when I go out in the morning. 250 yuan per night.
3️⃣Tour tips: Tiananmen, Forbidden City, Jingshan Park, Yan Dai Xie Street, Nanluoguxiang, Bird's Nest, Water Cube, Badaling Great Wall.
This route is very suitable for friends who are visiting Beijing for the first time. Tiananmen and the Forbidden City are together, and you need to queue up to enter. The Forbidden City ticket is 40 yuan.
Jingshan Park is a hillside park overlooking the panoramic view of the Forbidden City, with a good view, recommended. The ticket is 2 yuan.
Yan Dai Xie Street and Nanluoguxiang are both centuries-old historical districts. Many famous hutongs are here, where celebrities gather and there are many snacks and delicacies.
The Bird's Nest and Water Cube, take subway line 8, get off at the Olympic Sports Center, the ticket is 78 yuan.
The Badaling Great Wall, the ticket starts at 35 yuan, the Great Wall is in the suburbs, and it takes a day to visit.
4️⃣Food tips:
Recommend Baozang Roast Duck Restaurant, Liu's Restaurant, it's crispy and can be dipped in white sugar. About 200 yuan for one, and there are many Beijing special dishes.
Qixun Baizhao Hutong Cuisine, Beijing cuisine in the old hutong, retro style, recommended almond tofu. Average 100 yuan per person.
Huguo Temple Snacks, a must-visit halal snack shop in Beijing, with baked buns, pea yellow, donkey rolls, etc. Average 20 yuan per person.
5️⃣S2 train tips: The S2 train is a beautiful sightseeing train route, and it is also the most cost-effective transportation from the city to the Great Wall. The starting station is Huangtudian Station to Yanqing Station, passing through Nankou Station and Badaling Station. The round trip to the Great Wall is 14 yuan.
The Great Wall of Badaling: A Mark of History, A Treasure of Humanity
On the vast land of our motherland, the Great Wall of Badaling is like a giant dragon, winding on the continuous mountains, witnessing the vicissitudes and glory of history. As a tourist, I stepped on this magnificent ancient city wall with full of awe and curiosity, trying to explore the story and meaning behind it.
I chose to go to the Great Wall of Badaling by Beijing-Zhangjiakou high-speed rail on a clear morning in winter. When the train slowly left Beijing North Station, the scenery outside the window gradually became vast and broad. Soon, I arrived at the Great Wall of Badaling Station. The platform is about 1.8 kilometers away from the scenic area. You can choose to walk or take a free shuttle bus to the entrance of the scenic area. I chose to walk, wanting to feel the atmosphere of this ancient place more authentically.
Entering the scenic area, the first thing that caught my eye was the tall and solid enemy towers. They are distributed on the ridge in a staggered manner, as if showing the grandeur and craftsmanship of ancient engineering. I walked along the city wall and felt the heaviness and solemnity of history. Every stone, every brick seam, tells the vicissitudes and changes of the years.
The majesty and danger of the Great Wall of Badaling reminded me of ancient wars and frontier scenery. This was an important channel of the ancient Silk Road and a battleground for the military. Standing on the Great Wall, I seemed to feel the hardship and tenacity of the ancients when they built this great project. They used their hands and wisdom to create this world-class miracle, which is admired and admired by later generations.
I stayed on the Great Wall for nearly three hours. Although the cold wind was biting, the excitement and emotion in my heart made me forget the cold. I marvel at the magnificence of nature and the depth of history, and I am also moved by those who silently contribute to the protection of the Great Wall. When I left, my heart was full of respect and emotion. This unforgettable journey gave me a deeper understanding and experience of the Great Wall of Badaling.
The Great Wall of Badaling is a memory of history and a treasure of human civilization. It teaches us to cherish history, respect culture, and draw strength and wisdom from it. As a Chinese, I am proud to have such a great historical relic, and I hope more people can come here to feel the charm and power of history.
Autumn in Badaling
The autumn wind is bleak, and it takes half an hour to get to Badaling from Qinghe Railway Station early in the morning. After a short rest and breakfast, we started to visit the scenic area. Climbing up, I feel relaxed and happy, and my mind travels thousands of miles. I admire the greatness of the ancients. They left valuable wealth for future generations. The mountains are overlapping, and the red leaves are flying. All kinds of troubles disappear like smoke in thin air. It took about 3 hours to finish climbing, and I didn't take the cable car, but walked back. In the afternoon, I strolled around and bought some Yanqing apples, which are produced in Zhangjiaying, Yanqing. It is said that they taste good, they are geographical indication products, let the children taste them.
Winter Visit to Badaling Great Wall 🇨🇳 ❄️
#timetotravel
🗓️ January 19, 2023
🇨🇳 ❄️ A trip to China wouldn't be complete without seeing the Badaling Great Wall, even in winter. During my vacation, my friends and I braved the cold, but the freezing temperatures led us to modify our plans. We settled for photos from the first level. The views were breathtaking, starting from the bus ride to Badaling.
🚌 Getting There: We took a public bus from downtown, which was both cost-effective and convenient.
😔 Though we didn't complete the full climb, the Great Wall's grandeur left a lasting impression. I plan to return under better weather conditions for the full experience.

Beijing like you never know it before
When it comes to Beijing, some would think overpopulation and pollution. I saw the magnificent Great Wall with pride and beautiful park packed with laughters, rich in culture and history. There are so many different variety of foods to enjoy each meal and I was spoil choices between on great meal with another equally delicious meal. It is a must visit for me and I am already looking forward to coming back to his city again.
Great Wall at Badaling
When: August 2019
No doubt that this is the number one destination when you heading to China. Take the cable car till the top and start walking. Be prepared for a huge crowd of people. This is the main place where tourist start their exploration of The Great Wall. I was so excited that it seemed to me that we were waking only an hour but actually we were walking for more than 5 hours.
Start your journey very early and don’t forget to buy the tickets in advance otherwise you will miss your chance.

THE GREAT WALL of 🇨🇳
Can you truly say you’ve been to China if you have not been to The Great Wall?
You: “I just came back from China”
Friend or Stranger: “Oh yeah, how was it? Did you see The Great Wall?”
You: “Oh, no but there is more to China than The Great Wall you know?”
Friend or Stranger: “Ah, so you didn’t go then. I see”
Don’t be that person folks‼️(By the way, the above ⬆️ scenario is all in good fun) I know my friends would ask if I crossed The Great Wall of China off the bucket list if I had it on the list in the first place.
Anyway, if being on your bucket list isn’t enough reason for you to see this world-renowned landmark, go for the journey via cable cars so you can see surrounding forest. Add to the fact that you’re literally standing on a prolific work of art that stretches on for miles and miles. I went to the Badaling section which I was told is a popular section of the wall. July was when I went and luckily it was raining on the way but it cleared up enough for us to patrol the steps up and down. When you go, just be sure to stop and take it all in, really be in the moment. For if you go and all you did was take a couple pictures, it won’t be worth it. It should be one of your most memorable experiences. ☺️ Follow on IG for more pics @Crimson21_ (Don’t forget that underscore)

The Great Wall of China
One of the most iconic landmarks in China is undoubtedly the Great Wall which is situated in Beijing.
The wall is easy to access from the city and we hired a driver with the journey time taking about 2 hours each way. My biggest recommendation would be to go early (we left at 5am) as this is the best way to avoid the bigger crowds and allows some quality time on the wall. There are food stalls near the entrance of the wall and a slide down on one section! #china #mountainview #urbanexplorer #greatwall

Backpacking by train to Badaling!
Address - Badaling Wall, Beijing
Ambiance/Facilities - North wall part, mediocre, south part, great!
Highlights - taking a funicular
Avg. Price per Person - around 140rmb/person
Rating - 4/5 stars
So here’s the thing, I understand I’m in a foreign country but I would have thought in one of the biggest tourist attractions in the world there would be clearer advice on seeing the wall.
The train is a cheap and efficient way to go from Beijing to see the wall. The train arrives deep underground at Badaling, just that was an ear popping experience!
We paid 500rmb for the 3 of us to go up the north (?) section in a cable car and honestly it was not great or worth the money.
There were sooo many people, it was awful! You could not get a sense of the wall. People elbowed you and pushed you. It was rough.
And yet, if you walked less than a kilometer down the road you could ride an awesome funicular to the south (?) point for 420rmb and this wall part was empty and beautiful!
No one tells you this, I think the north part is higher but honestly the wall parts are very similar, when empty - spectacular!
Make the right choice…go the path less travelled and enjoy your Badaling wall experience. #badaling
*see photos of both parts
Great Walk of China!
We visited the Badaling section of the Great Wall, and weee not disappointed. Although there were some steep uphills to walk, we enjoyed the experience. The sun was out but it was not overly hot and despite being extremely crowded, there was no pushing and everyone was respectful and patient. We paid 175 RMB each for the entry ticket as well as a round trip on the cable cars, which I would totally recommend. Good views and fast! Overall we spent maybe 90 minutes walking up and then back down.
Getting to Badaling Great Wall was not a hassle at all, as we opted to take a speed train from Beijing North to Badaling. It was about 30 minutes long and only 20RMB.

Another day at Great Wall
Introduction - The Great Wall of China, one of the seven wonders of the world, is a dream for many to visit. Badaling is the site of the most visited section of the Great Wall of China, approximately 80 kilometers (50 mi) northwest of Beijing's city center, in Yanqing District (within Beijing municipality). The portion of the wall running through the site was built in 1504 during the Ming Dynasty, along with a military outpost reflecting the location's strategic importance. The highest point of Badaling is Beibalou, approximately 1,015 meters (3,330 ft) above sea level.
Getting There - You can easily get there from your hotel or motel in Beijing by bus, app based cabs.
Railway is another way though, used by locals.
Attractions- Actually the great wall itself is an attraction. The locals visit and walk up the great wall highest point. There is also system of going through cable cars if you think it would be exhausting.
Badaling and the expressway were the site of the finishing circuit of the Urban Road Cycling Course in the 2008 Summer Olympics. Laps of the circuit passed through gates in the wall.

Trekking the Great Wall
We decided to take our daughter on a hike. The weather was great. The sky was clear, so rain couldn’t deter us from a hike. Didn’t expect the hike to be part of the Great Wall of China. I had no knowledge of there being different entrance points to the wall until I researched how to get to the wall. once arriving it was fairly easy to get to the entrance from the shuttle. There were rows of shops leading up to the entryway of the wall. once we entered the wall and started climbing things got interesting. There were many steps, slopes, and breaks. It was beautiful. #beijingfinds #greatwallofchina #badaling #hiking

It is located around 80 kilometers northwest of Beijing city centre, in Yanqing District. The new Badaling railway station for high speed trains has been completed. Bullet trains departing from Beijing North Railway station can reach the Great Wall in 20 minutes.
The portion of the wall running through the site was built in 1504 during the Ming Dynasty. Cableway will lift you to the highest tower of Badaling, North Eighth Tower, at the top of Good Man Slope.
The toboggan can take you down from North Fourth Tower to the valley .
Badaling is the site of the most visited section of the Great Wall of China, because of the convenience. Note that the Badaling section is handicapped accessible.
Great Wall of China
One of most famous and Historical place in Beijing, China. Enjoyed this gem, highly recommend.
The Great Wall of China is a series of fortifications that were built across the historical northern borders of ancient Chinese states and Imperial China as protection against various nomadic groups from the Eurasian Steppe. Several walls were built from as early as the 7th century BC,with selective stretches later joined together by Qin Shi Huang (220–206 BC), the first emperor of China. Little of the Qin wall remains.Later on, many successive dynasties built and maintained multiple stretches of border walls. The best-known sections of the wall were built by the Ming dynasty (1368–1644).

24 Hours in Beijing *GreatWall*
My 24 Hour tour challenge was one the best solo trips l ever had. Visiting the great wall is a must and the great Chairman once said “不到长城非好汉.” “One who fails to reach the Great Wall is not a Hero.” Badaling is one of the least crowded sides of the Great Wall and easy to start the tour from. Although its not close to Daxing airport it is still a great entry point to the Great Wall. Getting there is easy because of the new high speed train that can be accessed via the subway line. From Badaling to Tiananmen Square is also quite close and easily accessible….I CAME I SAW I CONQUERED#greatwall #explorechina #adventure #china #naturalwonders #passionpassport #summervacation #givethanks #

Great Wall memories
My first time in Beijing to finally visit the amazing world wonder of the great wall.
And it was an exceptional time, the day before the declaration of emergency for Covid-19, there was already a lot of confusion and uncertainty around it and people were not inclined to travel despite Chinese new Year got started and international tourists were very few.
That's why I got the luck and chance to experience the Great Wall almost empty, it was basically a wall for one's own!
Unforgettable.
Well, eventually some people came by but very few tourists, nothing compared to the huge numbers this attraction has.
So yeah, time to share again one of the best trips of my life ❤️

The Great Wall of China - Beijing - 🇨🇳
The Great Wall of China is a place that you can’t miss if you are in Beijing, it is probably the most popular landmark in the city.
The whole visit, including walking around and taking pictures should last between 2 to 3 hours.
This place is an impressive archeological gem, its facade is beautiful and its renovation was a total success. Some well-preserved parts of The Great Wall include the Badaling and Mutianyu, Juyonguan, Jinshanling, and wild Jiankou and Gubeikou.
Make sure you bring comfortable shoes and some water, this site requires some walking and there are lots of stairs. In case of getting tired you can always stop and find a place to sit down.
This place should be a priority in your trip as it’s part of the list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
In case you have several days in Beijing, you can also buy some tours where you can camp in the Great Wall.

Great Wall of China - Badaling
Great Wall of China - Badaling is the most visited section of the Great Wall of China, approximately 80 kilometers northwest of Beijing. Please, note THE MOST VISITED.
Yes it is very beautiful there, the views are breathtaking and just realization of where are you standing is just insane BUT the amount of people walking around was just a little bit too much for me 😵💫😁
luckily after me and friends walked along the wall for a while the number of people has drastically decreased. I think another reason was that everybody is trying to get there as early as possible and in the afternoon more people leave than arrive.
but regardless of anything the great wall is something you have to see is you are in china.

Flying over the Great Wall, China
I payed about ¥3000 for two people and I have mixed feelings. I’ve actually heard that’s not a bad price and we had a really great time however we were only in the air for about 15 minutes so it was a little bit underwhelming. We left Beijing around 8am and drove for about an hour maybe an hour and a half. So even with a drive and the flight we were back in Beijing intime for a late lunch at Sanlitun. I had a great time though. I wasn’t expecting being able to take the best pictures through the glass but they are unique. I would encourage anyone to do it and while I won’t do the wall again I would be much more open to flying over other major places some time. #thisischina
