Jiaxiulou, witness to the prosperity of Guiyang's history!
Jiaxiulou
Jiaxiulou was built during the Wanli period of the Ming Dynasty, and "Jiaxiu" means "outstanding scholars". Currently, Jiaxiulou is designated as the sixth batch of national key cultural relics protection units by the State Council as part of the "Wenchang Pavilion, Hehe and Jiaxiulou", and has become a must-visit attraction for tourists in Guiyang.
Jiaxiulou is divided into three parts: Fuyu Bridge, Jiaxiulou, and Cuiwei Garden, which are ancient and elegant architectural complexes. With the towering buildings of the city, the combination of ancient and modern styles echoes each other, making people sigh with emotion for the vicissitudes of history.
Visit Jiaxiu Tower around 4pm, and if you're lucky, you can see the fiery clouds. Wander around and grab some food, and when night falls, take a stroll through the bustling night market streets to see the prosperity fade away.
Address
Guizhou Province, Nanning District, Xinhua Road, Cuiwei Lane, No. 8.
Transportation
Take bus routes 15, 48, or 305 and get off at "Jiaxiulou" stop. Parking nearby is inconvenient, so it is recommended to take a taxi or public transportation.

Guiyang - hills, forests and monkeys.
Resting at about 1200 m altitude, Guiyang is a reasonably cold city in winter for that far south. What is striking about it, is the sheer amount of green the city incorporates. It does not therefore, come as a surprise, that its main sights are actually parks and forests and animals living there. We chose to stay in the center, near where the two metro lines cross. It was a solid location, but a bit further south, closer to the Nanming river, would have been optimal. If budget is not a consideration for you booking one of the upscale hotels with a view of the river and the Jiaxiu pavilion is a great option. Taking an evening stroll along the river was pleasant, Jiaxiu pavilion and especially the bridge it sits on have a really authentic feel to it. Further west down the river there are really nice murals that combined with some 'projector magic' tell really nice stories at night. Guiyang is also known as a liquor producer, so if you spot some buildings reminding you of liquor bottles it is not your imagination. What I found a bit infuriating about the city center is how restricted its streets and pavements feel. Very rarely will a street let you cross without shoving you down to a shabby looking underpass with no working escalator. While this works great for the traffic safety, it does make a casual stroll around the city quite annoying.
But, where the Guiyang really shines and why it should be visited are its parks and forests.
To start with QianLing Mountain Park was probably the best place we went to in Guiyang. A large centrally located park in the middle of the city has everything you would want from a park. Hills, forests, small lakes, temples, great views, a cable car for those less willing to hike, a small zoo and of course the monkeys. A lot of monkeys. A lot of always hungry monkeys. While I found them great and highly entertaining in their attempts to steal and rob you of anything that can count as food, some precaution might be in order. Keep your backpacks firmly zipped, your phone unexposed and in general do not show any food unless you are willing to have it taken from you.
Apart from QianLing, Guiyang's aptly named forest park is another large park. I am actually not sure if there is an official entrance to this large patch of forest. I entered by a muddy road bypassing a construction site and exited on the other side through someone's vegetable farm. Still, the actual forest is really nice and large and there is a Red cross memorial for those interested in Wartime history.
To sum up, we liked Guiyang, it felt rather different than most big cities. Really green, the city itself a bit rundown, but also laid back.

Daytrip to Jiaxiu pavilion... ❤️
Jiaxiu pavilion heritage landscape area is located in the mother river of Guiyang, the Nanming river fishing bay on the South of Gui mountain. Surrounded by the large river, Jiaxiu pavilion got a quite number of attractions around it namely the Fuyu bridge, International Buddhist temple, Cui Wei garden, Ji Hong bridge, Temple of Marquis among the few. These attractions and scenic spots all reflect the traditional Chinesr cultire of "harmony between man and nature" thought.
Built in the 26th year of Wanli period of Ming dynasty (1598), Jiaxiu is so rich in history and it is one of the top ten buildings in the whole of China, it witnessed the changes of times and narrated about the cultural heritage. Jiaxiu pavilion stood for 400 years and more and became to a symbol of the city life in Guiyang.

Jiaxu Pavilion- History at night 🌙
Situated in the middle of bustling Guiyang, on its own little island in the Nanming River, with a lush park on one bank and trendy bars and restaurants on the other, is a slice of Ming dynasty history. The Jiaxu Pavillion dates back to 1598 and it has been restored a number of times in the following dynasties.
It is worth exploring during the day, however, as night approaches and the temperature drops the area becomes alive as both locals and tourists descend upon this attraction.
The whole structure and the adjacent walkways are lit up beautifully and it is perfect for some holiday snapshots.
Try some of the freshly squeezed orange juice plied by vendors on the bridge to the pavilion.

Jiaxiu Tower, Guiyang
Jiaxiu Tower is located in central Guiyang, right next to the river area. We arrived on a February evening, but it was still a nice time of year to visit. The evening is definitely the best time to come here as it is accompanied by an illuminating light show of the pavilion itself along with the surrounding buildings. The various laser dances, multicolor lighting scenes and traditional music makes this a worthwhile attraction to visit in Guiyang. I especially enjoyed the reflective aspects of the lights off the water and the pavilion and bridge areas. It is easy enough to avoid the crowded areas and find a quiet spot to yourself to take photos and videos. 🏯🏯🏯

Stunning Lights
If you're looking for a place to roam around at night in Guiyang, this is a perfect place 🏯. Evenings are stunning with all the lights. They even have light shows in the lake. There is no entrance fee to roam around the tower 💴. There are lots of restaurants and cafes nearby. The street is very lively and there is a bus stop in front of the tower.

Guizhou Tourism | Family, the night view of Guiyang is really breathtaking
If you come to Guiyang for a trip, you must spend an evening to appreciate the shock brought by the brilliance of this city after nightfall! It's not only full of the charm of ancient style but also the magnificent splendor of a bustling city, truly moved to tears by the night view of Guiyang!
-
✨Jiaxiu Tower——✨Qingyun Market——✨The White House
⛳Jiaxiu Tower
A landmark of Guiyang, it is recommended to arrive at 5:30 PM, so you can capture the sunset, and when it gets dark and the lights are on, 📸 snap away, the night view is really beautiful! It feels like traveling through ancient and modern times. The best photo spots are on both sides of the moat to capture people and Jiaxiu Tower, and on the rooftop of a four-story building across the road for a panoramic view.
.
⛳Qingyun Market
After Jiaxiu Tower, head to Qingyun Market, a trendy gathering place transformed from an old factory building. The style is somewhat like the cyberpunk style of Changsha's Big Food City Fortress, with many neon signs, quite magical! Inside, there are lots of snacks, hot pot restaurants, jewelry shops, bars where superheroes gather, and more...
.
⛳The White House
Locate to Huaguoyuan Wetland Park, get off the car and you can see the White House, walk into the square, and the best spot to shoot the White House is where many photographers set up their stalls~ Remember to turn on the fill light at night, the shot is very spectacular! It has a bit of the flavor of The Parisian Macao. The lights off time is around 10:30 PM.
Walking forward to the right, you will see Guiyang's Huaguoyuan Twin Towers, the 'I Love Guiyang' internet-famous towers.
Travelogue of Jiaxiu Tower in Guiyang
In the bustling downtown area of Guiyang, the winding Nanming River flows around the city, which is the mother river of Guiyang. On the bank of the river, a tall and majestic pavilion can be seen from afar. This is the famous Jiaxiu Tower, standing tall for 400 years, witnessing the history of Guiyang's development, and is the iconic building of Guiyang.
Approaching Jiaxiu Tower, one must first cross the stone arch bridge over the Nanming River. This bridge is known as the Fuyu Bridge, which has quite a reputation. Fuyu Bridge is the longest bridge within the city of Guiyang. Originally a nine-hole stone bridge, it was reduced to seven holes due to road construction. In 1996, during a major flood, many surrounding areas were destroyed, but it alone stood strong across the turbulent river, a testament to the ancient people's superb architectural skills.
After crossing the bridge, one can see the tall stone and wood archway, with the four characters '城南胜迹' (Southern City Scenic Spot) inscribed in the center.
Walking through the archway, one can take a closer look at the pavilion. Jiaxiu Tower, built during the Ming dynasty, has a long history. It is divided into three levels, with each level featuring high eaves and corners, and a pointed top soaring high. Ancient literati and poets came here to compose poetry and leave inscriptions, many of which are preserved to this day. There is also a long couplet here, written by a Qing dynasty local scholar, which is said to have 26 more characters than the one claimed to be the world's longest in Kunming's Daguan Tower, making it quite unique.
Next to it is the Cuiwei Garden, with pavilions, terraces, and winding corridors, reminiscent of the water towns of the Jiangnan region.
Surrounded by beautiful lakes and mountains, Jiaxiu Tower offers a picturesque view. From afar, one can gaze at the city's skyscrapers, while Jiaxiu Tower quietly guards the changes of Guiyang city, undisturbed by the hustle and bustle, enjoying its serene existence.
The Jiaxiu Tower under the veil of night
The Jiaxiu Tower is now enveloped in a layer of patina. Nowadays, many people come to the Jiaxiu Tower every day to take photos and marvel.
The Jiaxiu Tower is indeed beautiful at night.
The lights are turned on around 7 p.m.
My friends, how should you react when I present these pictures to you?
April 3rd, a day of leisurely strolling in Guiyang
Summary: Guizhou Province was a completely new map to me. Apart from Guizhou Maotai, my limited knowledge about Guizhou was really sparse. After arriving, I found out that the Zunyi Conference actually took place in Guizhou. I repeated the name 'Qianxinan Buyei and Miao Autonomous Prefecture' several times, only to forget it moments later. Hence, I decided to start by visiting the provincial museum to get my bearings.
I arrived at Guiyang Longdongbao Airport at 9 o'clock last night, found a budget hotel near the provincial museum, and planned to stay for two nights. However, the hotel was desolate and the air quality was not great. After taking a shower, I went straight to bed. So this morning, I changed my reservation, checked out, and moved into a youth hostel (named 'A Forest'). Around 8 a.m., I stored my luggage and then ran back to visit the provincial museum. It was a bit of a hassle, but it gave me peace of mind.
I skimmed through the provincial museum, saw Wang Yangming's enlightenment at Longchang (today's Xiuwen County), Xu Xiake's travel notes (Huangguoshu Waterfall in Anshun), and also witnessed the concerns for the nation by reformists like Tan Sitong and Liang Qichao during the late Qing dynasty and early Republic of China, with their petitions on the public carriage. In the 'Xu Xie Tie', I saw the interaction between Han Qi and the tipsy sage Ouyang Xiu. I had previously seen his 'Record of the Drunken Old Man's Pavilion' in Chuzhou, a very distinctive ancient figure. There was also a phrase in Tao Tingjie's regular script album: 'Doing good is like spring, the growth of the garden's grass is unseen, yet each day it grows taller.' I found it very interesting and share it as an encouragement. I wanted to buy a souvenir of the iconic buildings, but currently, only commemorative coins were on sale, so I gave up.
At noon, I had a bowl of beef soup noodles with an egg for 14 yuan at Wang Ji's Old Guiyang Beef Noodles next to the hostel, and then gnawed on a piece of Napoleon cake for 9.5 yuan from the Yuliang Cake Shop on Renmin Road. Afterward, I went back to the hostel to check in and rest.
In the afternoon, Jiaxiu Tower is recommended for its night view, but it's better to come early, make a reservation to enter and see it, as it closes at 6 p.m. So it's best to arrive around 4 p.m. and take your time. The late cherry blossoms along the Nanming River are still very beautiful in early April. Not far from Jiaxiu Tower is Wenchang Pavilion, which I didn't visit, but it easily fits into the frame when taking photos. Jiaxiu Tower was built during the Ming Dynasty by Jiang Dongzhi from She County, Anhui Province, during his tenure in Guizhou, to encourage scholars to study diligently, with the hope of producing outstanding scholars and talents. The entrance of Jiaxiu Tower bears a couplet: 'Climbing this tower amidst the hustle and bustle, I inquire about the well-being of the counties, never forgetting the aspirations of ordinary days.' The matching line reads: 'With a scratch of the head in this vast world, I lament the vast rivers and mountains, full of changes from ancient to modern times, relying on the outstanding to navigate through safety and danger.' With my limited cultural knowledge, I couldn't read many of the characters on-site and had to look up information online later, grateful to the predecessors. I leisurely strolled around, watched the old men playing chess by the river, imagined chess strategies in my mind, sat on a bench nibbling on dumplings, sipping tea, and admiring the flowers, which was very pleasant.
I found a buddy to go with me tomorrow morning to visit Mr. Yangming's Memorial Hall in Xiuwen County, coinciding with the Qingming Festival, to pay respects, which is quite nice. In the evening, I joined a group for dinner and had a big iron pot meal, which I didn't quite enjoy, and another place was too crowded, with no numbers left.
Jiaxiu Tower (Guiyang)
Jiaxiu Tower is divided into three levels, each with white stone railings, layer by layer tapering inwards, with a height of about 20 meters from the bridge surface to the roof; the Nanming River flows past the front of the tower, converging into the Hanbi Pond; on the side of the tower, a stone arch 'Floating Jade Bridge' connects the two banks, and there is a small pavilion on the bridge named 'Hanbi Pavilion'; the whole structure features vermilion beams and green tiles, with a three-story, three-eaved, four-cornered spire roof.
Guiyang | A race against time during a business trip
Guiyang, this is my second business trip here, and both times I haven't had the chance to deeply experience the scenery of this city. I checked the surrounding landscape at the work site, and although it was just a fleeting glimpse, it has deeply attracted me. I hope the work goes smoothly, to secure this project, and I will definitely take the time to feel the depth of beauty of this city.
Time was limited, and by the time I arrived it was nearly nine o'clock at night, so I went to see the Jiaxiu Tower, which I didn't have time to visit the first time. The sense of solidity of the ancient architecture under the lights is really something that cannot be conveyed by a phone, the weather was a bit chilly, with fine rain mixed with tiny ice pellets hitting my face.
The riverside lights and scenery were beautiful, with many homestays built along the river. Unfortunately, I couldn't find any on Ctrip, but the one I booked, 'One Flower One Stay', was not bad, although it was a little distance from the river. The hotel was in a small alley, with one or two budget hotels and hourly rooms nearby, and you had to walk up two flights of stairs. The external environment was a bit of a letdown, but the interior atmosphere and the hotel living experience were still a bit of a surprise.
At half past ten at night, I wanted to order takeout, but seeing that the roadside shop was still open and people were eating, I went in and ordered a dish and a soup. The small shop wasn't big, with only five small tables, and seemed to be run by a family of three. After ordering, I heard the clanging of cooking from the kitchen. A plate of shredded potatoes and a bowl of sour cabbage and red bean soup, this kind of freshly made and stir-fried dish, with the unique aroma of the kitchen, was too delicious!
With three hours left before heading to the airport, I hurried to the famous internet-famous Qingyun Market, pinched my nose to verify the Guizhou people's attribute, couldn't chew the fishy-smelling Houttuynia cordata, but found it acceptable as a drink. This is a district that belongs to the night, unfortunately, the sky was not yet dim, and I was already on my way back.
The journey's scenery had shocks, surprises, and also the experience of a gentle and long-lasting flow. Guiyang, wait for me to come again!

Guizhou Four-Day Three-Night Travel Guide
🏨 Near the Fountain Square Subway Station
Day1 14:28🚄 Arrive in Guiyang
Route: Minsheng Road - Wenchang Pavilion - Jiaxiu Tower
Bought some tea from the Tea Mountain (delicious!), barbecue on Minsheng Road, Daji Xiangsu Duck (so-so), and rice skin (tasty!); For dinner, queued for 'Guijia Sour Soup Beef' but it was too busy, ended up at a sour soup beef restaurant without a queue, which was quite good too 😋
Day2 🚄 Guiyang to Libo 08:35-09:34
Return 🚄 Libo to Longdongbao 16:25-17:35
Route: Enter from the east and exit from the east
Took a bus from the high-speed rail station for 10¥ when full, arrived at the scenic area at 10:08. Reached Xiaoqikong at 10:34, followed by an uphill walk, a bit tiring as it's uphill so you can see the small waterfalls along the way, rested and ate our own food at 12:04 (inside the scenic area, apart from the entrance, they sell snacks like grilled sausages, which are quite expensive); reached Wolong Pool at 13:31, truly beautiful. Since we kept stopping to take photos, we didn't have time for boating on Mandarin Duck Lake or rafting at Wolong Pool 🥹. Arrived at the scenic area exit at 15:09, took the No. 11 bus when full at 15:29, and got to Libo station at 15:48. Had dinner at 'Qiandashu Stall' after reserving in advance on Dianping, it was okay 😋
Day3 🚄 Guiyang North to Anshun West 09:22-09:52
Return 🚄 Anshun West to Guiyang North 18:28-18:59
Route: Lower part of Tianxing Bridge - Huangguoshu Waterfall - Doupo Pond
Took the Huangguoshu bus when full at 10:03, arrived at the entrance of the scenic area at 10:48, because it was so crowded the bus took us directly to Tianxing Bridge area, then just asked the staff how to walk the lower part, which took 2.5h (there are many local residents selling food here, prices are quite reasonable~); reached the waterfall area at 14:01, walked down the mountain, didn't queue for the Water Curtain Cave as it was too crowded, after visiting took the elevator up the mountain, the waterfall took 1.5h; took the sightseeing bus to Doupo Pond at 15:30, returned at 16:42, reached the ticket center at 16:58 and took the bus to the high-speed rail station. For dinner, went to 'Yiluo Pot' to get a number, saw several other Luo pot restaurants nearby, didn't want to queue and randomly chose 'Pinwei Gold Medal Luo Pot', which was also delicious!
Day4 🚄 Return from Guiyang North at 16:25
11. Arrived at the east gate of Qianling Mountain Park, it's really tough to climb! First went to the Giant Panda Pavilion, then saw many other animal pavilions along the way to Hongfu Temple to see 🐒, saw many wild macaques before even getting there, didn't want to climb anymore so headed down towards the west gate, lots of macaques on the way down, one even jumped on me and took my mineral water 😅. After reaching the west gate, it was super congested, had to walk a long way to get a taxi, finally got on a car at 13:30. 'Chen's Bean Rice' was not open, so chose 'Xindaxin Bean Rice Hotpot', which was also good 😋
Special forces tour Guizhou!! Win in the off-season (with strategy)
Scenic, plenty of food, less queuing, low prices
These points are enough to come to Guizhou in the off-season!
Four days to check in four cities
Super fulfilling non-stop strategy! If needed, please 🐎 oh~
DAY1⃣️: Shenzhen➡️Guiyang
After putting away the luggage, go for food
Start Citywalk (essentially Cityeat) after eating
☑️Route: Qianling Mountain Park-Zhengxin Street, Minsheng Road (eat all the way)-Jiaxiu Tower-walk around nearby
🤤Food list
☑️Eaten: Heshengjia Glutinous Rice Cake (love the sticky), Silk Love Silk Doll, Toilet Bun (actually just bun with vegetables), Anshun Crispy Bun, Bowl Cake (similar to Malay cake), Prickly Pear Juice (unexpectedly good), Sesame Ball, Red Bean Nest, Potato Cake, Potato Chips (recommend spicy flavor), Dwarf Pie... I really can't eat dinner after eating all the way😅
🔘Can't eat but many people recommend: Danjia Crispy Duck, Egg Wrapped Potato, Anshun Rolled Rice, Grilled Pot, Bean Rice Hot Pot🍲
DAY2⃣️: Guiyang➡️Huangguoshu Waterfall
Had glutinous rice🍚, mutton noodles, intestine noodles near the hotel, and then set off to catch the high-speed rail to see the 'Huangguoshu' in the primary school textbook
☑️Return on the same day, continue Guiyang Cityeat in the evening
Go to eat 'Guichu Sour Soup Beef Hot Pot' after getting off the high-speed rail, I personally highly recommend, must make an appointment in advance! After eating, go to the White House, Twin Towers to check in, just walk around and go back to the hotel to rest
DAY3⃣️: Guiyang➡️Libo Xiaoqikong➡️Zhaoxing Dong Village
☑️After playing Xiaoqikong, set off for Zhaoxing Dong Village without stopping
Start eating as soon as you arrive, haha, after eating, stroll around the main street and find a coffee shop to rest, special forces rest time~
🤤Food list
☑️Eaten: Dongjia Hot Pot, Green Headscarf Aunt's Glutinous Rice, Hand-beaten Glutinous Rice Cake, Local Bayberry Juice, Sweet Wine Dumplings, He·Coffee
DAY4⃣️: Return trip
Breakfast 'Fish King Breakfast' - set off to Tang'an Terraces to watch the sunrise🌅 (the winter scenery is a bit ordinary in my opinion) - return to the Dong Village to go to the viewing platform - casually stroll around and have lunch 'Farmer's Home'
Finally bought some pine nut crisps and kudzu root crisps and said byebye~
Written at the end:
☑️Of course, if you have enough time, I suggest not to play like me as a special force. If I have more time, I will stay in Guiyang for one more day (I feel I haven't eaten enough!)
☑️I personally think Huangguoshu and Xiaoqikong are worth going to haha
☑️One or two days in Zhaoxing Dong Village is enough, if you want to take photos, you can add half a day, other strategies say the essence is to visit the nearby villages, you can decide according to the actual situation~
☑️The biggest regret of this trip is that I didn't conquer the fishy grass...!
【Snapshots of Jiaxiu Tower in Guiyang】
Jiaxiu Tower, a must-visit spot in Guiyang.
My best friend and I, however, have fallen in love with the waterside walkway by Jiaxiu Tower.
Walking on the walkway, we see the sentiments of autumn scattered in the clouds, the wind, the water, the fragrance of flowers, the grilled fish... No need for deliberate adornment, autumn has become beautiful in the way we like. My best friend and I only need to filter out the complexity, embrace tranquility, and carry the autumn colors towards warmth.
Encountering the Jiaxiu Tower in the night view during a trip to Guiyang
During the trip to Guiyang, not only is there a lush greenery, clear and bright blue sky and white clouds, the city's night view is also dazzling and extraordinarily charming, just like walking in the landmark Jiaxiu Tower, any corner of it, the beauty of the pavilion that has passed through history has long been in sight~
May everyone have a happy Mid-Autumn Festival with the high sky and the full moon~
Note: Do not drive there, there is no place to park, pay special attention!
Tickets: None (free except for climbing the tower)

Famous towers in the south of the Yangtze River, well-known to all.

Hunan Yueyang Tower
Nanchang Tengwang Pavilion
......
🏯Unbeknownst to many, Guiyang also has its landmark tower—Jiaxiu Tower, this business card of Guiyang, is also the location for the show 'Running Man', same style as Zhou Shen!
🪨What surprises me the most is that Jiaxiu Tower is built on a huge rock in the river! You can only reach Jiaxiu Tower through the winding 'Floating Jade Bridge', and there is a small pavilion on the bridge called 'Hanbi Pavilion'. Jiaxiu Tower is 20 meters high, with white stone railings, it is a three-story, three-eave, four-cornered spire pavilion-style building.
🌊I have to say, buildings built by the water must be more beautiful. Whether it's a clear sky, sunset, or when the lights are first turned on, the reflection of the building always makes people more intoxicated with this beautiful scenery. Jiaxiu Tower is surrounded by lush greenery, forming a picture of ecology.
🍲The view of Jiaxiu Tower makes me feel that it's worth climbing the tower. The shooting location is in Cuiwei Lane, opposite Jiaxiu Tower. You can also go to the restaurant on the opposite building to eat, I recommend a restaurant 'Baozheng' where you can taste all the specialties of Guizhou, enjoying the beautiful scenery while eating is a wonderful thing.
🚩Location: Jiaxiu Tower
📍Address: 8 Cuiwei Lane, Xinhua Road, Nanming District, Guiyang City, Guizhou Province

📌Tip:
1、It is recommended to go to Jiaxiu Tower around 4 pm, take photos + visit, and be sure to see the night view at the end!
2、You need to bring a telephoto camera or a phone that can adjust the focal length to take photos on the opposite building. Jiaxiu Tower

Cool places around Jiaxiu Tower! Wow!
